Nurse Tech/What has been your fav dept to work in?
I work at a critical care unit (ICU-step down) that focuses on the neuro population. Its a very heavy floor to work on. Pt. post surgery are mostly confused with slurred speech, incontinent of both bowl and bladder. They often require restraints becuase they try to pull out indwelling caths, NG or G tubes. We get alot of DNR's post op becuase of poor prognosis. Not all the cases are like this, but most of them are. If I were you, and had a choice I would go for like an MICU or CCU floor becuase then the RN's have less pt's, and its just a whole lot less stresfull. BEST OF LUCK!

scrubs in chicago
Another good place to go to is Conway. They have several stores around Chicago land area. I live in Southwestern burbs, so the closest one I know about is North Riverside Mall. The tops are like $3.99-5.99, pants about the same price. Sometimes they have Dickies too! You can also try A.J. Wright that has cheap scrubs too. You can google the stores, and locate the closest one to your home. Hope this helps, have a fun shopping spree!

Rush University Medical Center Uniform Colors.
Hello, does anyone know if Rush has a color coded scrub policy, based on position? If so, what color do nurses and PCT's wear? Thanks!

New PCT offered a job at a large hospital for the night shift. Any advice??
Hello Everyone, 3 months ago I have completed my CNA certification , and after a long search have been offered a position at a large, hospital. It is for the Surgical-Telemtry Unit, and for third shift. The recruiter told me I would be responsible for up to 12 pts on the night shift, and sometimes be the only one on the floor!! (37 bed unit). I'm worried that I would not be able to keep up with all the patients. Any PCT's or CNA's out there that can give me any advice; I would really appreciate it! How is your day like? What unit do you work on? How is surgical-tele unit? How is third shift? ANY ADVICE is appreciated! Thank you, very much in advanced!

Can any Patient Care Techs tell me how much your training cost?
Yes, that it outrages!! My best friend finished her CNA course in Illinois, and paid $650. Now she got hired at a hospital as a PCT, and they trained her with the EKG, and Phelebotomy. The school that she took her CNA class in, offered a PCT training for $4500!!! No, it is not worth paying for the PCT. All you need is a CNA certification or an EMT and the hospital will train you for the rest! Don't waste your money!

CNA classes being offered anywhere??
I as well did not want to waste over $1200 for a CNA class at a community college. I found out about a place called Samland Institute of Allied Health and Technology. They have three locations: Chicago South, Chicago North, and Park Ridge, IL. It is a 5 week certification course and they offer it at night or during the day. The night class is usually M-TH from 5:00pm-9:50pm, and a clinical either on Sat. or Sun from 7:00am-3:30ish pm(usually you get out early though). They also have a weeked class, that one is 8 weeks long. It's alot of material in a short period of time, but it covers everything pretty well; I did not have any problems taking the state board exam. The cost it $650, but includes: tuition, books(3), and a gait belt. You can break it down to three $200 payments ,or pay week by week. I think it's a nice program, and out of all of them the most affordable. You can google them. Hope this helps, best of luck!
