my wife is a Pinay nurse
I hope someone here can help guide us in the correct direction. My wife has lived in the United States for 5 years. She graduated with a BSN in the Philippines 13 years ago she took the national nursing exam once right after she graduated & scored 74% in one section but passed all the other sections on the national exam. due to the fact that she had younger siblings attending college at the time her family was running short on money so instead of retaking the exam 6 months later she accepted a job in a Manila hospital. Therefor she is not an RN in her home country. years later her & I married & she moved to New Hampshire which is my home state. New hampshire will not allow her to sit for the NCLEX so she has taken an LNA & then last year an MNA class After speak with the head of the nursing dept. at the local college she was urged to sit for the NCLEX in either Texas or California & then go work in one of those 2 states for a year , then to apply for license in the state where we live. the reason the head of the nursing dept. gave is that they only accept 12 nursing candidates per year & if my wife takes one of those seats some other person will be left out & she also stated that after looking at my wife's transcript that "you are just wasting your time & your money here" so has anyone here taken the NCLEX for either Texas or California but lived in another state? thank you for your help Piglett PS: i am just a boat mechanic & know nothing of nursing, any help will be greatly appreciated :)

Why do so many nurses from the Philippines come to Canada/USA?
1/2 a million ??? definitely not. the average house is about $150,000 or less due to housing prices falling here. i have a job that involves a lot of driving, so not wanting to fill the pockets of the big oil company's too much i bought a Toyota corolla (good used with cash) that is very good on gas. i know some people feel they need 9 credit cards & a big fancy house that they can't afford. then they head rite out & spend 40k or more on a vehicle that they don't need , but they want........ money fights & money problems are the leading cause of divorce in north america, so why do i want to put myself in a position that causes stress on my new marriage??? once my wife gets her visa & arrives we are going to look into seeing if there any weedend shifts here for her i know some facilities run 12 hour shifts & they don't want to pay out a hugs sum in overtime so they have 1 group work Monday -Thursday & the 2ND group works fri, sat,& sun only. some guys married a nurse thinking of all the money she can make. however i don't think of my wife as a cash cow , i think of her as my wife & i intend to spend as many days with her as i can. new stuff is nice, piles of money are nice, but as long as all of the bills are paid on time & the roof doesn't leak on the house & we have some money in savings i am a happy camper i welcome your questions & comments piglett

i see that you are very hostile towards foreign nurseswhat exactly is it about them that you don't like??? maybe you are worried that they are 1. younger than you? 2. prettier than you? 3. smarter than you? 4. better overall than you? i just hope your prejudges don't contribute to a negative working environment for your foreign coworkers have a fine day piglett

hey i wasn't trying to offend or step on any toes. I have however had others that are in the health care field tell me that they are very impressed with pinay nurses. also a friend of mine fell off of a 2 story house roof & damaged his back in 14 places for 3 nights he screamed until he couldn't scream any more & the only thing that seemed to help any was the 2 pinay nurses holding his legs up in the air all night long. he said he was very impresses with their performance. after 3 days they decided to operate & install two 8 inch long titanium rods in his back which did a lot to help but he will never be 100% again. however he can walk short distances & work a little. so due to the information i received i thought they were highly regarded through out the world. but maybe only a few select areas are lucky enough to be blesses with these super nurses :yeah: piglett

she said she doesn't want to sit around the house, she thought it would be very boring( these are her words) i hate debt & don't have/ will not have a credit card in my house. been there done that..... As far as the drivers permit goes, she has never driven. i will find a country road once she gets her permit & i will give her some lessons. it will take time but she is a smart lady so in the end she will do fine. she is mostly a home body. her idea of fun is texting/chatting with her friends she doesn't like to go places just to go there. she grew up poor & feels it's a waist of money. however if i say " i need to go to walmart because i need this, this, & this would you like to go with me ? she will respond "sure" she was raised on the other side of the planet so she has a different outlook on life. piglett

No not at all, I have had my share of dealing with government bureaucrats. Many act like they are in slooooooow motion & i just have to stop & wonder to my self, if this person had to go out onto the private sector like most of us are & they had to actually get a set amount of work done per shift could they do it ? probably not my guess is that "most" would be fired within a week. i along with many people i know have had jobs where i had to do a good job & actually work quickly too. if you want to see what i am talking about just head to the nearest post office & observe the 1/2 asleep people that they have working there. ok time for me to get off my soap box now :lol2: piglett

I think there is something about not yet being on the list that prevents people from getting a SSN sooner than 2 weeks. when dealing with government always figure on it taking longer than they say. after all they have all the time in the world to jerk people around. thanks piglett

just married a foreign nurse who can help?
Well after asking this is what she replied " I have my bachelors degree in my 4 year course in nursing & i have also attended seminars related 2 nursing degree." so she didn't just take a nursing course, i think that's good news. piglett

Yes i am an american, lived here all my life. i know she did graduate but weather she holds a bachelor's degree or not .....i will have to ask that exact question. she is going to start a review class on Aug 9TH that lasts 2.5 months, then she can take the nursing boards in December . she will still have about 6 months left to wait for her CR-1 visa so maybe study & take the NCLEX while she is still there?? well not exactly she is working an a nurse there but she has never taken the test to become an RN ( lack of money) so in my book she is a LPN ...but they don't have any of those there so i guess she is a nurse ??? as far as employment goes around here for the last 20 years ( maybe more) around here they are always short on nurses. Why ? many people retire up here from NY,NJ,CT,MA, ect. ect. these people get old & require nursing care. so i have never known of 1 nurse around here that was out of work for any amount of time. However i am sure the rest of the country is not like it is around here. thanks piglett

Well thank you for everyone's input on this subject. so i guess there is no LPN in the philippines & she has not ever taken the test to become an RN there so i guess she is a nurse but not a RN? i am not really sure about how all of that works over there. She sill be leaving her 12 hour a day 6 day a week $182 a month job so that she can take a 2 1/2 month long review class. then she can take the test to be an RN over there in December. As far as english classes go the nursing schools over there all teach in english so there is no problem there. drivers ed. if you had even been to manila you would know that that will never work there. lets just say that in Manila they more or less don't follow ANY of the rules of the road.....none of them!!!! I used to drive a tractor trailer coast to coast. I would haul freight for the military up to 12 feet wide. & i don't want to even drive in Manila, so there is just no way my wife will be able to get her drivers license until she gets here. I'll take her out on some of the back roads around here where she will be the only vehicle on the road & i am sure that in time she will do just fine. till then i will have to take her to & from work:uhoh3: maybe she can land a job where she works three 12 hour shifts a week that way i wouldn't have to play taxi almost every day, sounds good to me if it works out like that. thanks piglett

just married a foreign nurse who can help?
well to make a long story short i married me sweetie on June 5TH She is a nurse in the philippines & after she gets her CR-1 visa will be moving to New Hampshire which is where I live. I am 39 & she is 27. we met online about a year & a half ago. She has been working as what we would call an LPN for the last 5 years. she did attend a 4 year nursing school there but didn't have the money( like many ladies over there) to take the test so that she could be an RN. I am sending her to a review class that will last 2.5 months & then after about a 30 day wait she will be able to take the nursing boards. I am not a nurse & know little of nothing about what it will take for her to be able to work as an RN here in New Hampshire. i did check out the new hampshire nursing license site but i didn't really understand all of the terms that they were using so at this point i am not so sure where to turn. General Information About Licensing - New Hampshire Board of Nursing if anyone here has some insite as to what it's going to take please let me know thanks piglett
