Is it possible to pass nclex-rn after being out of school for 2 yrs?
Don't feel bad, I am in the same boat! I graduated in 2010 took NCLEX that summer and failed. Took NCLEX again after studying for 2 months and failed again. After my 2nd failure, I lost my confidence and I was disgusted at the fact that I worked so hard to get through nursing school and could not pass NCLEX. I have not taken NCLEX since 2011 and I am now preparing to take it a 3rd time after slowly picking my confidence back up off the floor (and two kids and 1 husband later). I decided not to let myself be defeated and I will pass this test no matter what! I am reviewing content using Saunders and practicing questions, lots of questions. I think that is where I went wrong the last 2 times I took it, I did not practice that many questions (other than what was in Saunders) and come to find out, Saunders questions are easy compared to actual NCLEX! So I use saunders questions to test my understanding of content and I'm using other sources for more NCLEX style questions (Kaplan, nclex 3500). I am also planning on purchasing the Lacharity book since I have heard so many good things about it, as well as the NCSNB review. Stay positive and keep your head up! I know it is hard cause it's hard for me, but in the end, hard work and determination will pay off :)

In need of advice
Hello all! I am here seeking advice about retaking my nclex exam for the 3rd time and finding employment. I have been out of school for over 4 years now, and still needing to pass my exam. My prior 2 times taking the exam were once right after graduating, and then again almost 1 year later. After failing the 2nd time, I got discouraged and busy being a new mom to 2 young children, so I guess I gave up. Now that my oldest is about to start pre-k, I feel like it's time to get my career going and find myself again. I just keeping wondering if I will even be able to pass after being out of school for so long and if I do pass would someone even hire a nurse who took over 4 years to pass the exam with no experience working as a nurse? I worked so hard to get through nursing school and I will never forgive myself if I never pass this test. That being said, is there anyone who has been in a similar situation and been able to pass the test and get a job as an RN? What would you recommend as far as study materials, programs, words of encouragement, etc.? I don't even know where to begin to pick up the pieces of my shattered confidence in nursing and pursue this test again! Any advice is greatly appreciated :)

What to do?
Hello all! I have been lurking around here for years and I love the site! I usually obtain information from this site without even having to post, but I am in desperate need of help/advice. I graduated in May 2010 with my ADN and just recently (6/14) took NCLEX RN for the 2nd time and failed. The first time I took it I had alot going on at the time and I didn't study as hard as I should have. This time I did study hard for nearly 2 months and I still failed it! I am at a loss of what to do now. I have decided to take it for a 3rd time, but I'm not sure how to go about studying for it this time, since my current study skills/materials are just not working. I used Saunder's comprehensive review 5th edition and dabbled a little in Exam Cram also. I like Saunders for review, but I have found that the questions are way to easy compared to NCLEX questions. Another problem is that I don't have alot of money to go pay for other study materials, so whatever I end up buying needs to be worth it. I have read about all the different books others have used to pass and I am also considering taking the NCSBN NCLEX course since it's within my price range. My problem is I have $70 to work with and I don't know if I should go buy some of the books others have used or spend the money on the online NCSBN review. What would you recommend? Has anyone else recently taken the NCSBN online course, if so was it helpful? What books did you find most helpful for question/rational purposes? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I failed :(
I am hoping I can work as a CNA as well. I am in Florida now, but I graduated in Maryland and I know in MD you have to finish you first semester and you don't even have to take the test for CNA certification. It was just a matter of paying for the certification and getting the nursing chair to sign off on the application for you. Problem is I have absolutely no money now and I have just about tapped out all of my resources (family). I just hate to keep having to ask for help! I will look into how it works in Florida though. Maybe I wont have to do all that. As for the pregnancy, it really is a blessing since I was told years ago that I would need fertility treatment to get preggo since I have PCOS. I guess they were wrong cause I was not on any meds or anything and it just happened. We are very excited, but worried since we are both not in a good financial situation at the moment. I guess it will all work itself out though. I'm just tryingto hang in there:uhoh3:.

I failed :(
Unfortunatly, I don't have a CNA certification. I was wondering If I could still get my certification just so I can work. I'm thinking my only other option is to get a regular job until I can pass the test. Even then I still have to worry about the fact that I'm preggo and it's going to be hard to find a job going on interviews with a pregnant belly. This is just not what I thought post graduation life was going to be like. I know it's not the end of the world, but it is very dissappointing.

I failed :(
So, I just found out that I failed NCLEX. I had 265 questions and sat there for 5 hours only to fail I feel discouraged, but I am trying not to let it get the best of me. Does anyone know what kind of job I can get while i'm waiting to retake it? I am totally broke and in serious need of a job. Should I look for a job in healthcare, or just start looking at random stuff like retail or something? I also found out 2 weeks ago that I am 8 weeks pregnant. Timing is really bad, but not much I can do about it now other than get a freaking job. Any advice would be appreciated! I'm truly at a loss and I don't know what to do anymore

Nursing licensure and jobs in FL
I had to send in the certificate showing that I completed the 2 hour med error prevention course. Then I had to contact my school to get transcripts mailed directly to the board of nursing. They wont accept the transcripts unless they come directly from the school. Just make sure you give the school the address for the FL board of nursing, which is located in one of the confirmation emails you will receive if you do it online. I had to pay for the transcripts as well but it was only $8 and I was able to do it online via the schools website. Your prices are correct.....$200 for Pearson Vue and $204 for the license application. I didn't have to turn in any finger prints. I'm guessing not all states require them. If I were you, I would do the applications online since they actually emailed me mt ATT the day after the FL board of nursing accepted my application. I found it very convenient :)

Nursing licensure and jobs in FL
I applied at Parrish also. They said they are interviewing in August, so hopefully we both get a call soon :) I have not even heard of the HCA website, but I will check it out. Health first is also hiring new grads in August, but i'm not sure when there deadline is for applications. Health first includes Cape Canaveral, Holmes regional, Palm Bay, and Viera (not open yet). I just got my ATT today, so I will be taking NCLEX on August 16th. I took the med error prevention course online for $30 at University of South Florida. If you haven't done so already, make sure you get your school to send your transcripts to the Florida board of nursing. I thought the board was gonna get them themselves, but I was wrong and it held me up a little bit. Good luck to you

Nursing licensure and jobs in FL
Hi Ncole! I was called for my first interview today, but the woman did not realize I don't have my license yet. I don't know why she acted like she didn't know because I clearly said "I am waiting to take my NCLEX exam" in my coverletter. Anyhow, She told me to come in anyway and see what we can do since I told her I'm just waiting on the date. My point is....it can't hurt to try to find a job before you take your test. The worst that can happen is they tell you that you need your license first. I figure if it does work out then at least I will have a job as soon as I pass my test if not sooner. Bottom line, you have to do what's best for you....just don't get discouraged. What part of Florida did you move to? I am in Brevard County.

Who should I address it to?

Who should I address it to?
Happy Monday everyone!!! I am working on a cover letter and I'm trying to figure out who I should address it to. I have tried to contact someone over the phone to get a name, but all I get is automated systems and/or voicemail boxes. So, who should I address the cover letter to? Would it be safe to just start with "Dear Human Resources"? Any advice please?

Nursing licensure and jobs in FL
Thank you both for the replies. My grandparents live in Cocoa Florida, so that is where I will be staying until I find a job and get back on my feet. I am actually moving there this Tuesday due to financial hardships here in Maryland, so I don't have much choice but to take my board exam in FL. My logic behind this whole crazy idea is that I currently live very close to DC and it is way overpopulated here IMO. So, I'm thinking if I move to a lesser populated area I will have less competition and hopefully more luck finding a job. I lost hope in finding a job here when my mother (also a nurse) who works in Baltimore, MD told me that they had 1000 new grad applicants to ONE new grad nurse position. In addition, I have called many hospitals in my area and been told that they are not even hiring new grads.....So here I am....broke....jobless....and well educated. Just doesn't seem fair to work so hard for something and then have to work even harder to find a job. I guess I will just have to hope for the best and keep my fingers, toes, legs, arms, eyes and anything else that can be crossed, crossed .

Nursing licensure and jobs in FL
Hello all! I am new graduate nurse planning on relocating from Maryland to Florida. There are absolutely no opportunities for me here in Maryland, so I am taking my chances in Florida. Has it been difficult for a new graduate nurse to find employment in florida? Also, can anyone guide me in the right direction in taking Florida state boards (NCLEX)? Where do I start? What do I need? Any advice will be greatly appreciated :)
