BC Nurses: please fill out BCNU survey!
I will definitely take part in that survey. And it is not about working 37.5 h, but unreflected rotations esp. when working 12 h shifts with included on calls. They talk about safe staffing and creating new RN positions, for rural hospitals like ours with not enough Casual positions this is a setback into unsafe staffing.

Hi harmindertoor, I am afraid I don`t understand your question! When someone is already booked for a certain date, that includes a confirmation has been sent with the booked date!?

Job offer
Hi iheartcanucks2012, I chose the relief full time position and the position was terminated to the return of the incumbent - but in my case the incumbent was on maternity leave moving down South to Vancouver (I am in the Northwest of BC). But even before she resigned another 2 permanent positions opened, so after 3 months I was successful in applying for a permanent full time position. It worked out for me - wish you the best! Mona77

Irish nurse failed CRNE 1st time-can i work as a grad nurse?
Hi, I had a slightly different experience, I am not in Ontario but an IEN in BC, and at the very beginning I feared applying for positions due to the not really encouraging posts about the job situation in BC. After applying online for job postings in all BC regions, waiting patiently for 4-6 weeks, I had 5 phone interviews in one week (January/12) and received job offers for all postings (all full time job offers, 3 permanent, 2 relief). I decided to take the rural nursing advantage and I am not regretting it; in my community we have a high percentage of First Nation population and I think I am coping well but of course it is challenging - on the other hand when you are a professional IEN there is no reason not to be considered for a rural or remote RN position as nursing will always imply continuous learning as well as adjustment to new working environments. My personal opinion is that beeing considered for a job will always depend on your previous experience and the way you advertise or present yourself. I completely agree that a new grad IEN has minimal chances for emloyment at present. Mona77

CRNE June 2012
@ dream4thainurse, the suggestions have already been given, read through petethecanuck`s response and prepare yourself. I did the CRNE in June, and was successful as an IEN, my advice is to focus on your language skills. Did you had problems understanding the questions - if yes, then you`ll know where to start. Talking to some IENs, they mentioned having problems understanding the questions! Do the first prep exam in the CNA prep book and go through the competencies that seem to be your weakest. I, personally liked the CNA prep guide, as it was written in the same style as the CRNE itself, Mosby prepared me where I was lacking knowledge - e.g. since my graduation in Germany in 2007, I never assisted in labour and delivery anymore, so I reviewed the complete chapter. There are some prep courses depending where you live!? Mona77

Internationaly educated new grad
I have only suggestions, but I think that your IEN new grad status and the fact that you have no previous nursing experience makes it difficult for you to get a job offer. Where do you live in BC, Vancouver, Lower Mainland? Then it will be hard as there are more competitors as anywhere else! Despite your new grad status you`ll have to present yourself, your resumee must be individual, convincing and in some way unique, so that your future employer has the impression that you are worth to invest time and effort. I got my job offer while in Germany, without having the CRNE done at this time, now I work in Northern BC since April, but of course I had the experience... Have you considered all regions in BC? Working in Germany as a RN
Hi, I am a german nurse, worked almost 5 years in Germany as a nurse, now living and working in Canada as a RN. I have one remark to nurses` responsibility in Germany, because the prior statement is incomplete. The german nurse has a performance responsibility, that means if a physician makes a false order and the nurse performs it without questioning or clarification, she will be accused of negligence or assault, which can lead to occupational ban. Most popular case was about an ICU nurse giving 40% Glucose iv push to a pediatric pt. with lethal consequence. All facts that were given about work situation are true, german nursing is more focused on patient care than on procedures, pharmacology and specific skills like venipuncture etc. but they are part of the education. I must admit that I don`t want to return to Germany and work as a nurse, as I really appreciate all positive aspects of beeing a canadian RN, my Scope of Practice and of course the higher wages. I am not sure if Nurses from countries like US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand will enjoy beeing a nurse in Germany.

ielts before crne in toronto?
Ielts scores are directly send to the Regulatory Body. Your application won`t be assessed without language testing scores. 6.5 means that your achieved average score in the Reading, Writing and Listening Module has to be either 6.5 or higher. Speaking Module 7 or higher! In BC the language testing requirements were updated. They are focussing on every part of the Module or do you think that effective communication is possible without listening and reading skills? Prepare for IELTS and try to acheive the requested scores!

the chance to be hired as an IEN.
If you are not older than 30, you can take part within the International Experience Class. If approved you will receive an open work permit valid for 12 months. Canadian Expererience is the best way, if you are New Grad! Try it!

Job offer
Yes, I have sent an e-mail asking for clarification, but havn`t received an answer until now. Two days left to decide which job to take and the relief full time job offer is the more interesting and challenging position. I would have called the nursing manager, but she was available at the office only late in the afternoon and I am currently in Germany 9 hours forward.

Job offer
Hi everyone, I have received two written job offers. The first is a permanent full-time and the second a relief full-time job offer. What confuses me is that I always thought that a relief position is terminated to the return of the incumbent. But this relief job offer isn`t terminated? What do you think, is this maybe a mistake or does relief not automatically mean to be a terminated position? Thank you very much for your help! Mona77

Malpractice vs Negligence
Hi everyone, at the moment I am preparing for CRNE in June. I have been educated in Germany and our technical terms and laws differ in some areas. Malpractice doesn't exist solely in Germany it is a component of our Negligence Act. Is here someone who can explain Malpractice and Negligence in the Canadian context? Thank you a lot.

swiss or german nurses immigrating to canada
I would recommend to start the registration process right away. I send my application in September 2009 and I am still not registered. My experience is that it takes CRNBC a long time to assess your education and it is likely that you'll have to go through SEC assessment. My transcripts got lost somewhere, for example, that meant a long delay in my registration process. Don't forget about the time you will need to prepare either for assessment or for the CRNE. I was one of a few lucky IENs, with only one Professional Studies Course to take. Out of 25, 22 had to take more than two and fulfil an individual number of clinical hours prior Provisional Registration and eligibility to write the CRNE. In what area do you work as a nurse? Do you have a Bachelor or a diploma? Mona77

swiss or german nurses immigrating to canada
Hi, you are not alone, I am a german nurse, within the registration process with CRNBC. In April we, my husband and I, start our Journey to Canada. At the moment we have a lot of work with selling our furniture, packing, gathering documents, and all the paperwork that has to be done prior our departure from Germany. So, welcome in this forum, feel free to ask all your questions. Best wishes!

German citizen with BSN from US; What is required to be a nurse in Germany?
Hi, contact the appropriate regional board, they will explain what documents are needed to assess your nursing education. If you are moving to Munich: http://www.regierung.oberbayern.bayern.de/aufgaben/umwelt/humanmedizin/ausbildung/ I am currently working in Germany, but will leave Germany for Yukon. If you have questions considering working conditions, feel free to contact me.

SEC Assessment
Hi Stelz, that's not correct. Only with Provisional Registration you are allowed to work supervised in the Province you have applied to. I have my Mastery in Psychomotor Skills and now I will receive the application for Provisional Registration. Quote from my assessment letter: You must provide CRNBC with a reference from a Canadian employer for whom you have worked under provisional registration for 250 hours. You may work on this requirement before and/or after you write the CRNE.

sec assessment result
Why don't you contact Kwantlen? I am sure they can best explain which course to take. Program Assistant is ********, you'll find her e-mail in the IEN Professional Studies section. Be aware that Medical/Surgical Review is an online course, it doesn't include clinicals, so maybe you will be supposed to complete the Consolidated Clinical Course. Mona77

application for assessment (IEN), carna
I don't really understand your problem, because the instructions are clear. Oct 1, 2010 - Sept 30, 2011 indicates a complete practice year, your job is to fill in the nursing jurisdiction name you have been licensed with and provide the hours worked within that period. Count the hours you have worked. The same for the periods 2009/2010, 2008/2009 always starting with the most currrent working period. This section has to be filled in by yourself. Page 17: if you have a registration number in the country you are currently registered as a nurse than you have to fill in outlining the exact initial registration date! I know that not all countries use registration numbers, so if it is not applicable, don't leave it blank - write 'N/A'. Hope that helps.

SEC Assessment
Hope that my first spring in the Yukon will be mild, so I can get accustomed to the rough weather conditions. But this years winter was really arctic in Germany, we had several nights below -25 °C and we survived (in front of our stove). It is one of the coldest winters since 1900.

SEC Assessment
Short update. In a month I will take Psychomotor Skill Review at Kwantlen. On January 3rd, my husband received a job offer, so the immigration issue is no problem anymore. First I had the impression that it takes so much time to complete application process, now I just don't know where to take all the time we will need prior our leave. On May 1st, we will be in Whitehorse, Yukon!!! Hope I won't freeze in the winter up north! So I will finish my registration process from Canada!

Like to apply in Germany can anyone help?
As you are not an EU citizen it will be almost impossible for you to work as a nurse in Germany. Working visa application and nursing registration are two seperate processes. Visit the Manila German Embassy website for specific information. To become registered also will depend on the region you want to live, all 16 federal states have their own regional board. Online applications are not available in Germany for nurse registration. You must show proof of language proficiency with your application, that means you should take courses in German before applying for registration, otherwise your application won't be processed. In May a new law will be introduced that facilitates recruitment of Eastern European nurses. The recruitment agencies are prepared to flood the German job market, so employers are unlikely to sponsor a Philippine nurse, when they can employ European nurses without the need to obtain a working visa. Please consider this.

I need your opinion on my dilemma..CA or NZ?
You have many possibilities, but if I were you I would decide what my heart wants, even if it would be a more complicated process or lasting longer to get PR etc. Where do you, deep inside yourself, think you'll feel home, satisfied, happy to be? Choose that country! If you are family bound, why not considering Australia? A door will always open, if you believe in your dreams. Have you already been in Australia, NZ or Canada? My place will be Canada, but I prefer a colder climate, lots of snow and rural communities - first I thought it will be either BC or Yukon, now it seems to be the Yukon, as my hubby received a job offer in Whitehorse - like mentioned before, a door opened. Wish you all the best I am sure you'll find the appopriate route to make your dream come true.
