  1. HEy, yea thanks for the input. I know that they make less but i want to start ASAP not until next year...plus i feel that at the public schools you get what you pay for know what i mean? For some reason i feel that starting as an MA might prepare me to become a nurse one day. At least create that trust in myself.
  2. Can someone PLEASE help me!!! Okay, so i wanted to start the lpn program at Orlando Tech, but it doesnt start till january and wont finish until another yr or so...i kinda switched my mind to an MA course because its shorter and times are tough. I need a job soon not 2 yrs from now. Plus i have 2 small kids. Has anyone attended TECO in kissimee?? THey have an LPn program here but im not sure on the schedule or the entry dates. I found Lincoln Tech online and they seem to have an MA course that is 9 months long. I have to contact them about the entry dates also. Another school much closer to me could be central florida institute. I have a meeting at this school for the medical assistant course a while back. It would take a 1yr to finish fulll time. This school seems a little unprofessional. I guess its due to its location. It shares a building with a trucking company . Has anyone attended any of these schools? Or cambridge, centura?? please share any info you might have. like tuition schedule etc...THANK YOu!!
  3. Thankx. How much does a new lpn grad make around here in Orlando??? Would you say you like your job?? What is your typical day like? Any info would be awesome!!
  4. Wow really?? I figured hospitals would pay better than anywhere else...would you say that working at a nursing home is less stressful/responsibility then wrking at a hospital???
  5. Thanks for the replys. I will try the Florida forum. What exactly does the LPN do at a nursing home??? Like i sayd before i dnt really know what im getting into but i just know i want this :)
  6. VANESSA, hey im not sure how many times your allowed to retake the teas test. I loved VCC while i was there but for nursing theres a looooooon waiting list i think even 2 years plus u have to take prerequisites (which might take u 2 yrs to complete) anywho...ive seen a lot of posts here saying that u shouldnt wrk full time while going to nursing school just because of the workload...but there have been LOTS of ppl who still do it and manage to finish just fine it might just b a little struggle but do-able :) Let me know if you get in the program!!!
  7. thanks for those replys :) i was hoping for a hospital position just because of the schedule....
  8. Hi guys! So i KNOW they can work in hospitals, clinics, nursing homes etc. I guess my actual question is: Whats the difference between them? Im trying to get into the LPN program at Orlando Tech and would like some information from any LPN's here that work or have worked at different locations. Whats the pay, schedule, stress levels?? Any information would be appreciated. All i know is that i want to becoma an LPN to help others. I have noooo medical background and have nooo idea what im getting myself into when it comes to the actual JOB. Thank you!! Any of you guys work around Orlando???? The only thing i know is that at a hospital you can work 12 hr shifts which seem awesome for me since i have a family of my own idk if i want the typical m-f 8-5 job you know? i think i would rather work really hard for 3 days but then again what do i know
  9. I know what you mean i got my A.S. through VCC also and i can relate to that! but whats wrong with being an LPN??? have you worked as one yet or you wanted to go straight to the RN program???

  11. Hey ARIELLE, the book is called "Study Manual for the Test of Essential Academic Skills, Version V" i just looked up teas study guide on the search bar at barnesandnoble.com and it popped up. Make sure you find out what version of the test your school is making you take before you purchase anything :)
  12. hi ARIELLE, i havent taken my teas test yet but i heard that the best study guide would be the one made by the company that gives the TEAS test. I found their study guide online at barnes and noble. They have it everywhere they sell books for about the same price but at barnes and noble they have a sale right now for $28.00 plus free shipping!! its 2-6 day shipping (not bad) i ordered mine 2 days ago and is supposed to get here tomorrow it came out to 29 dollars and change. The original price is $39 hope this helped :)
  13. Hey you can try valencia community college. Its in the heart of Orlando, and i believe it takes a year to complete your RN once your an LPN but of course the pre-reqs are not included. You would have to take those separately sorry
  14. sorry to hear that. Was there a long waiting list? Well thanks for that info, i cant wait to start but i still havent taken my TEAS entrance exam im waiting for the study guide in the mail. Once i study it front to back i will take the test before it gets too full :)
  15. HEATHER925 HI heather, my library doesnt have any teas books either but i found them at barnes and noble. Try the website first i know that they have the Version V on sale for $28 but its online only. If you need it right away try calling the store to see if they have it in stock but at the store it will be regular price $38.95. Its better to get it online and its free shipping you only pay for tax which it all comes out to be $29 something not bad :) i believe it takes 2-5 days to arrive. Good luck!
  16. I really dont know anything about mid florida tech but orlando tech does teach it. Its a 4month course and starts in August. $9 an hr?? that kinda sux for working at a hospital as winnie palmer but your right hospitals do require it...
  17. your welcome!! Let me know if you decide to take it for this August we might c each other!!
  18. YAYAGIG yes im trying to go to Orlano tech...its start in August so your first step would b to attend their orientation on Thursdays at 8:00am or 5:00pm. I went to the 8:00 am and overall 30+ ppl showed up!! theres only like 24 seats so make sure you get there on time!! At the orientation you can ask ANY questions you have and they go over all the healthcare programs not just HUC and also financial aid. The orientation lady said that she has had students get a job offer from the hospitals where they did their clinicals...in other words just be your best at clinicals so you give a good impression but of course a job offer is not promised. Question? Do you have an AA or AS degree?? The reason im asking is because if you, they waive the TABE test which is the entry test you have to take. Most ppl dont have a degree so they have to take the TABE test. You can register, pay the $25 registration fee, pay $24 for the background chek and take the TABE test right after the orientation (only if your ready!). After you do all that they give you a packet. In that packet you have some papers that have to b filled out. They request an updated physical and shots etc so one of the papers is for your doctor to fill out. You also need your high school transcripts. Once you have all the forms done you call a number they give you to make an appt with the counselor so you can register for the class. If its full i think they put you on the waiting list that is why you should get that packet and finish the paperwork as soon as possible. Be prepared the day of orientation in case you want to register that day. I dnt want to be driving around so I took my AS diploma (they make a copy so i wouldnt have to take the TABe) my i.d., my fafsa printout etc and I did everything.I couldnt figure out financial aid this week bc they wont have that info until about 2 wks. OMG this is a long message SORRY!. On a side note: this course is too short for a pell grant which is what the gov offers but if you qualify they will give you a school scholarship that covers tuition and lab i believe then you only worry about the books/uniforms/supply...around $400 thats better then everything which is around $2,000.00 If you want to try for the schools scholarship make sure to take your chek stubs and ur spouses if they work. ANY MORE QUESTIONS PLEASE ASK! hope this helped and not confused you lol
  19. Hey guys so im thinking of becoming an LPN but in the meantime i want to get certified as a health unit coordinator. I was wondering if anyone here is an HUC or was at one point. If you are or know someone who is, do you know whats the starting salary for that position here in Orlando?? How much do they pay at Florida Hospital, ORMC, Health Central...etc. And what is the typical day for an HUC/work schedule??? I have an idea of the responsibilities or else i wouldnt have signed up for this lol but i would like an actual HUC worker who can PLEASE give me details...is it hard??? how long do they train you at the hospital??? any information would be great!!! thank you!
  20. YAYAGIG It does seem like a good program. Its half time at school the other half at the hospital. They teach how to "transcribe lab work, diagnostic tests, etc. Also to interpret and report deviations from normal sinus rhythm and operate the patient's heart monitors" well at least the school im goint to does :)
  21. yea thanx...i guess if i study study study i should be fine...im wondering how the program works...like is it bookwork then hands on, when do they do the clinicals...etc. Like whats the "normal" day. Have you tried Valencias LPn ro RN program? I think if you have your LPN you can finish your RN in 1 year. Try this link http://valenciacc.edu/departments/west/health/nursing/standingTrack.cfm It should take you straight to that info page.
  22. Wow thats great thanks!! if you can handle all that i can handle my 2 kids :) And i do WANT this!
  23. Hehe thanks! Now i gotta study for that TEAS test..my library doesnt carry any study guides on it and i dnt got the $ to buy the study books online since you took it already would you say that studying any other college level math/sci/eng would compensate???
  24. OMG im glad i found someone!! Well i also have 2 kids they are 3 and 5 which will both start school this fall. My plan was to attend the LPN while my kids are in school but at the orientation today i was told that the next full time day class doesnt start till January...so Im thinking of doing the HUC program which is 4 months starting in August to try out how this schedule would work. The counselor told me that I can sign up for both and turn in both packets. If the HUC seems hard enough then i probably wont attend the LPN im glad you told me you have kids it makes it seem more "do-able" lol. I have seen other students on here or LPN's that attended school without working or kids and they sayd it was hard...this scared me, but im glad that there are people out there that have about the same life status as i do. My hat goes off to you for finishing school!! COngrats!...what was the hardest part of the program for you? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you!
  25. Thanks guys for the support!! So today i went to the orientation and the LPN for full time does not start until January...so for now Im gonna attend their health unit coordinator program. Its 4 months so in the end i get my HUC certification and also get certified as a monitor tech.Half the course is at school the other half at hospitals...if i can handle the schedule for this program then i will go ahead and do the LPN although the work will be much more.
