Jobs in Ottawa
Hey guys, my name is Zoe, I'm an Australian nurse with 1 year experience under my belt and I'm think about moving to Canada. I was just wondering what the job climate is like in Ottawa, and Canada in general? And does anyone know the chances of getting a job with 1 year experience? Obviously the more experience the better, but does this sound impossible? Just testing the waters :)

Australian Graduate Entry Nursing Courses
Hi all, I have just completed my first year of nursing in a graduate entry course in Qld. I've done all my theory, bar a research project, and I have a year of prac ahead of me, after which I will be a registered nurse. This is the first year the course has been run at my university and there are a lot of kinks to iron out, to say the least. I am considering transferring to the University of Sydney, but I found out today I may not get any credit because the courses are organized very differently. I'm thinking about cutting my losses and starting all over again as I feel woefully unprepared, and will have very little clinical supervision by the university during my second year - insane!!! Has anyone had any experience with graduate entry courses in Australia, or has anyone been so unhappy with the quality of teaching at their university that they transferred/left completely? Many thanks.

Jobs for new grads in NZ
Hey all, I will be graduating soon from the Master of Nursing (Grad Entry) at UQ and unfortunately I missed out on a grad position in Oz. I was just wondering what the general job outlook is for new grads in NZ? Obviously I haven't applied for a grad position in NZ either but I just wanted to find out how easy it is to go straight into a nursing 'job'. I realise I will have to register, etc. Just trying to work out if the jump across the creek is worth it really :) Many thanks.

Oz Grad Looking to Move Overseas
Hey guys, I was just wondering if anyone knows of any Australian nurses who have gone to work overseas straight after graduation? I will be finishing at UQ in June 2011, and unfortunately I did not get offered a grad position in NSW, and I need to get the hell of out QLD. The UK is out of the question as they require 12mths experience for registration, so perhaps NZ or the US? Not sure of their registration requirements. Also, just to clarify, are grad programs compulsory or would it be possible for me to simply get a nursing job in Australia after graduation? Many thanks, Zoe

Any UQ Master or Nursing Studies students here?
Hey guys, My name is Zoe and I am currently completing the Master of Nursing Studies (Grad Entry) at UQ. Being the first year of intake we are a small group (9 at the Wesley and i think 8 at St. Andrew's). I have worked 15-20hrs part time during the course (we do prac Mon & Tues + class Wed), which has been completely fine. Over the summer we will be doing prac Mon-Wed, then in the final semester it is 5 days per week on a rotating roster (not sure how I'm going to work around my part time job at the pub, but I'm sure I will come to some arrangement). If you have any other questions please feel free to contact me - [email protected] On a side note, if you love hard work (pratical and academic) and knowing that you help people everyday, this course is definately for you! Zoe :)

Are grad nursing programs mandatory?
thanks buttercup99, much relieved now. silverdragon102, probably the E3 visa as you only need a job offer to obtain it. but im not sure if each US state has different regulations regarding experience of internationally trained nurses. for example, i know you need 12mths experience to register in the UK, but international nurses only need 6mths experience to register in Australia. talk about double standards.

Are grad nursing programs mandatory?
Hi all, I will be graduating from UQ's Master of Nursing Studies (Grad Entry) in July 2011. I didn't realise until this point that very few hospitals have mid-year intake for graduate nurses throughout Australia. Does anyone know if doing a grad program is mandatory or if it is possible to gain employment straight from uni? I was considering taking 6mths off to travel if i can't get a job but i'd also like to start making some real money again! I'm particularly interested in sexual health. Another option might be moving to the US to start a grad program in September. Does anyone know if it is possible to move to the US straight from uni, or do you need a year experience? Many thanks, Zoe
