Don't assume LTC nurses make the lowest wage. I left Hasbro Children's Hospital in 1999 making 15.85/hr. Went to work at a skilled nursing facility starting at 17.00/hr. I now make 31.00/hr at a SNF working in a management position. Believe me, I was shocked to learn that I could trade the stress of working with dying/ill children for caring for our elders who were at their natural end of life, and make more money doing so. Still stressful, but in a different, more acceptable way. At least for me.
  2. Please reconsider your options. There is absolutey no reason to spend such an outrageous amount of money for an Associate's Degree from an as yet unaccredited school. There are other far less expensive options here in RI, all accredited: RIC, CCRI, URI. Why would you even consider NEIT? Is it because of the waiting list? Don't make foolish decisions to save time. I am an RN with a BSN from URI. I have been a nurse for 13 years. I started school initially at CCRI then transferred to URI in my sophomore year. I also know many RNs with ASNs from CCRI who are excellent nurses, and have excelled in their careers, so I don't believe having a BSN is necessary for success in the nursing field. But spending over $30,000 on an unaccredited school for just an Assoicate's degree is ludicris! Don't do it.
