Medical Staffing and Home Health
I have a couple questions if you work for a medical staffing place do they give you insurance as a Registered Nurse? Also, if you work for Home Health is that taking care of a person in their home? Is that as good of pay as a hospital? Would a job like that provide insurance for a RN? Thanks in advance

Advice Needed
I am struggling, because I want to make some type of career change, but I don't know exactly what to do. I am a high school math teacher, who does not enjoy high schoolers. I have thought about getting certified for elementary, but the job possibilities and pay is not so great. The only other thing that I have ever wanted to be was a nurse, however, I am afraid to make a big switch because the only thing that I have ever done is teach. Could anyone give me any advice? I went and talked to a college today about getting certified for nursing it would take 17,000 in student loans that is if I don't get any scholarships. Also about 3 years of schooling. If it were you which would you do? I also have two kids, if that factors in!! Thanks in advance.

Tonsillectomy
Well, as some of you know, I have considered going into nursing. However, I struggle with vomit, so I thought that meant I would not make a good nurse. Also, my DD just had her tonsils removed and she was in really bad pain, which really upset me, I don't know if it was because she was my daughter or if I would be like that with all patients. If so, that is probably a bad thing. It was like I wanted to make the pain stop and make it stop now. Then I had to look in the back of her throat where the tonsils were removed and I was scared to look at, a part of someone's body that had been cut off or cut open. I finally did it, and it was okay, however, do you think these things would make me a horrible nurse. Or do you think I would get over things like this?

Calories
As a nurse, or medical professional, is it valuable information to know how many calories a patient eats per day? I have a friend who is a RN and she says that is valuable information, but I can't see how that would be important. TIA

Nursing Job
I am a high school math teacher and somedays when I am done with the school day, I am beat. I have nothing left to give my own family. It is not like that everyday but somedays in addition by friday for sure, I am whipped I can hardly do anything else except fall into the bed asleep. That sounds horrible doesn't it. I was wondering if nursing was the same way, by the end of your work week are you so whipped you can hardly do anything with anyone else? I know different parts of nursing are different, but the nurses that respond are you pooped out on a daily basis after work, are you pooped out ( I mean pooooped, like you can hardly do anything) after a work week. Or after doing the nursing job, do you still have energy after work to do other things? Just wondering on the quality of life nursing provides. I have very little energy after teaching high school all day, I don't know if it is where I teach or the subject that I teach, or I know other teachers feel the same.

Nursing Career Question
I have considered becoming a nurse, however, I have a question. As a nurse, do you bring work home with you? I am thinking that you would not, but I thought I would ask just in case. Also, if you are asked to work over your shift are you black listed it you can't work over or extra shifts other than what you are scheduled for? Thanks

Nursing Homes and Jobs
I am considering getting into nursing and going to nursing school, but I wanted to get a feel for if I would like it or not, by becoming a nursing assistant at a nursing home. My question is do you think if I like being a nursing assistant then I would like the profession of nursing? Is this a good way to test the field out? Also, some of the nurses who have been around for a while and have seen the nursing cycles, is there a prediction on if or when nursing jobs will return in full force? Thanks in advance.

Birth Control Pill Question
Is it weird that bc pill makes me feel better? They also help me lose weight. I don't know why. I have less/ more tolerable PMS when on birth control pills. I have two kids and since my second child was born I have had horrible PMS, for like two weeeks before my period and then bad cramps for the week of. So I really only have 1 good week. Is it normal to have a change in your periods after having a child? I am not a medical professional, so I was wondering if there was a medical reason that bc pill (I take Yaz to be specific) would have this effect on you. The only thing that I don't like is you are not suppose to be in the sun with the birth control pills or a tanning bed because it makes brown splotches/spots on your skin. Any advice is appreciated.

Cardiac Nurses
If you don't feel comfortable giving me your thoughts on this situation that is fine. I just wondered from actual nurses what they thought about it. My father is a RN, but he is to close to the situation to talk about it with me.

Cardiac Nurses
The nurses acually told me that she was not getting enough oxygen to her brain becaue she kept fainting. She was also in moderate (it seemed like it got worse after all this happened) alzheimers. I don't know if alzheimers has anything to do with not getting enough oxygen to her brain. However the day before she died her alzheimers was bad. I mean really bad, she had been divorced from my grandfather for about 30 years and spoke about him as if they were still married. That is something she never, NEVER would have done in her right mind.

Cardiac Nurses
It also may give more information, I don't know if it will or not, but she also had alzheimers.

Cardiac Nurses
There was one full day that she was not getting enough oxygen to her brain because she kept fainting in her bed. She was moved out of ICU, but when she started fainting they put her back in ICU and that next morning they got her up to walk and she collapsed and died.

Cardiac Nurses
My grandmother had a widow maker heart attack and was in ICU, well the she died 4 days later in the hospital. My question is why did the nurses not tell me that my grandmother had such a severe heart attack and was not expected to leave the hospital alive. They would never tell us when she was going to leave the hospital. Also, do they allow children in the ICU? Because they allowed both of my kids in ICU, when she had her heart attack. After they went in there I felt it was not a place for kids, I was wondering if they did it because they didn't expect her to make it. The next day they got her up to walk and she collapsed, they did CPR, which got her heart beating, but she could not breath on her own, so they put her on a ventilator until my uncle got there. Also the day before they said that she was not getting enough oxygen to her brain. I just wondered if anyone knew anything about this.

Nursing Question
For all you nurses, if cleaning up vomit makes you gag or almost throw up yourself, do you think that is a sign that you would never be able to handle being a nurse?

Over worked Nurses
Why is it only going to get worse?
-
Over worked Nurses
I have heard a lot of nurses say they are overworked. Do you think that is always true in all years or just worse now due to the recession and the economy. If you have been a nurse for while, have you always been overworked or have you noticed that it is worse now?

Write ups
What would cause a nurse to be written up? Are there a certain number of write ups and then you are fired or what?

Nutrition
I was wondering if there are nursing positions in the area of Nutrition or that deal with Nutrition? I am interested in good nutrition and helping others develop good nurtious habits. I know that there is diabetes educator. I don't know who plentiful the jobs are in diabetes education. I know there is dietcian, but I don't think there are a lot of jobs in that area either. Does anyone know if there are other nursing positions that deal with nutrition? Is nutrition a part of nursing? Thanks in advance.

Nursing vs. Accounting.
I know that I can't get career advice of a message board, but I wanted to know what posters thought. First of all, I am a high school math teacher and very unsatisfied, which I have been since I started. I have been a high school math teacher for 7 years. I don't like that there is very little opportunity for advancement, and your success depends upon your students success. So it doesn't really matter how hard you work, if your students are willing to work hard, then your success is limited. My other career choice before I decided to be a teacher was a nurse. I have heard that Nursing is very similar to teaching in a lot of ways. Such as, huge, unrealistic workload. Physical job, Assessments, and very hard job. This is why I am shying away from Nursing. I also think that I would like to go into accounting. It has a lot to do with math, and is goal oriented. I am a hard worker, which I think would serve me well in accounting. My success with completely depend upon my work ethic, no one else could effect my success. I like the idea of setting and meeting goals and having opportunity for advancement. I think accounting would work well with this. I know it is weird for someone to be deciding betwen accounting and nursing, since they are so different. What does everyone else think?

Nursing vs. Teaching?
I am also a teacher, considering a nursing career. First of all you have test score stress. If the students don't preform up to a certain level the test scores go under your name and you are seen as a bad teacher. Some students are also out of control, if you have no control over a students behavior how can you control their learning. If you need anything not provided by the school for your class or lesson plans you have to buy it yourself. I teach Math, last year I was assigned to teach all the students in the school who had failed math and spoke zero english. It was horrible. I had to do that all day and all year long. They tested those students and found only 25% of them passed the test, so now I am seen as a poor teacher. The state is threatening to take our school over. I teach in a low economic and transant school (students don't stay there long, they move in and out all the time) Where I teach there is mostly single parents, raising kids. It is a very hard situation, my principal is asking me to teach the students using something that they are interested in, and in a round about way, then teach them math. I am like, okay, I am not sure I know how to do that. Also, the principal wants students up and active in order to learn math, ridiculous. I am not sure how to teach like that either. Administration and the state is expecting miracles and teachers are not miracle workers. The student has to be willing to work also. If students chose to sleep in class, is that the teacher's fault?

Nursing vs. Teaching?
Ceilingcat - What do you mean if you end up with a C- average grade wise, you won't be able to be hired? Do you mean your college GPA or when you are teaching your students average grade?

Online Nursing Schools
What is your opinion on online nursing schools? Do you think that is respected as much as brick and mortar schools, or do you think there is no difference.
