I have officially began all my nervous activities: house is spotless, workout done, dog bathed...and the list goes on. Just a couple more days. Hopefully we will all be celebrating with a letter of acceptance in our hands!!!

I did get a phone call from GHC, but it was from general admissions, not nursing admissions. You never know, all I know is that all of us really want in the program and we are getting very close to finding out if we have been selected. I can't wait for the day I check my phone at work and see that someone has been selected! Good luck to all of us!!!

Hey guys....we are almost there! One of my coworkers has been telling me about West Central Technical College. She said that their deadline had not approached yet to begin classes in the Spring. I was just wondering if any of you had heard of it. I know we are still waiting to hear from GHC, I guess I am just anxious and always thinking of a backup plan. Good luck to all of you...still keeping my fingers crossed for all of us!

I heard that letters will be sent out the first of November....just a little over a month before we know!!! Good luck to you all =)

To be honest, I am not totally sure about how they feel about repeated classes, but let me know what you find out. I do know that the application worksheet asks you how many attempts you have had at a class and what those grades were, so it is calculated into the score, but I am not sure if they look down upon it or not.

Thanks Charlie, that does help! I just found out today that they took my upper level classes instead of the lower level science courses. Finally, something went right and I have a much higher score. I met with the advisor as well, she said they will fill out the worksheet score just as it says to at the top of the page. The directions do say to mulitply by .50 and .30, so you are saying that they will then multiply the SAT scores by .20? Thanks for your help, I hope to see you in the Spring!

I may have miscalculated my score. I will have to look at it again. I have only one attempt for each class and a prior bachelor's degree. The college awards you 1000 points for the SAT score if you have a prior bachelor's degree, so I did not have to submit an SAT score. As far as the core courses go, I believe I have all A's in everything but the science courses. I am pretty nervous about this, but one can only hope to get in. You had all A's except in an A&P class and you were not accepted the first time you applied? That worries me even more!

Thanks! You are such a great resource...if you can't tell, I am so anxious to get started with a nursing program. If I calculated my score correctly, I have a 1737.5, hopefully that is good enough. I had a rough period getting my first degree and went from a 4.0 to nearly a 1.0 and then back up again. It has hurt me in the past in the application process, so I am hoping it doesn't get in the way here. I work as a tech right now and love it, I just can't wait to move up to the next level...even if it means driving almost two hours to get there.

I am glad to find another person wanting to attend GHC. I was told that the average scores accepted for last spring were in the 847-1227 range. I looked at the thread for Fall 2010, it looks like students applying with a scores in the 1000’s range and up got in. I might call and ask them how they rank all the applicants scores…I am nervous. I have taken all the pre-requisite courses but got B’s and C’s in the three science courses with A’s in all the rest of them. Does anyone know when we should hear if we are in or not? Also, did you get a confirmation that your application has been received? I sent mine via fedex last week, according to fedex, they got it, but I didn’t hear anything from GHC.

Hmm...I never would have thought of that! Thanks! The deadline is September 15th! Of course, now I am waiting to figure out whether or not I have an appropriate humanities course. I have taken so many Spanish courses, which are listed as humanities courses in the catalog, but aren't listed on the worksheet. Crossing my fingers yet again! I have taken a music course, but still waiting to see if it will transfer in. How are you liking the program??? I really appreciate all of your help! =)

Yay! My science courses have officially transferred in! Now I just have to get my application to Georgia Highlands College. Do you guys think they accept applications in person. It is soo late I am almost scared to mail it in!

Ok, I have gotten some information regarding costs for the nursing program. Granted, this out line is from a few years ago, but I think it gives a nice estimate for in-state students, which I am not. =( Per Semester Tuition: $977.00 Total Program Cost: $3908.00 Uniforms: $120.00 each Shoes: about $45.00 Id and Patches: $16.00 Assessment Kits: $103.00 Books: 2344.00 Looks like books are killer, but this is a boostore estimate rather than amazon, chegg, etc. I was wondering....I am still waiting on my transfer evaluation for my sceince courses. They received my transcript on July 29th. I email them about once a week checking on the status because I really want to get my nursing application sent in. I hate to be annoying, contacting them a lot, but I am not sure what else to do. Any suggestions? Application deadline is almost here!!!

Well, I am happy to hear you already knew the courses had to be completed by Spring! I know that would be disappointing to find out after applying...so glad you will be able to get them finished up! From what I hear, there are not too many people who have a prior bachelor's degree that do not get in. People have been selected for the nursing program with scores lower than 1100...which means our automatic award of 1100 points should be very beneficial. Very thankful for this! Good luck to you! Hello reannen! I'm soo glad I am not the only one still in the process of applying. I am still waiting on my trasfer evaluation...it has been three weeks so hopefully it will be done soon. I am sure they have been busy with enrollment and what not. You may want to call or email the nursing department. From what I understand, you cannot enter the program in Spring if you do not have your prerequisites completed prior to the start date. I believe this is because students who enter Spring term do not have summers off to take extra non-nursing courses. I am new to GA, so not completely familiar, but it might be worth calling them. Not trying to break some bad news, just wouldn't want you to rush around and pay for applying if you will have to wait until fall. About admissions...I have no idea the cost of the program, books, or how many students they accept. All I really know is that they use the worksheet scores to select new students, and that books were expensive. Another thread was talking about getting them on amazon for 600, or over a thousand at the bookstore. It was also mentioned however, that these books carry on throughout the nursing program.

I'm glad to have found someone else that is applying. I think your worksheet score sounds great. I have a prior bachelor's degree as well. Becuase of your prior degree, the SAT isn't required, they just automatically add 1100 points to your worksheet score. From what I understand, the TEAS is not required to apply, but will be for the Fall semester. Right now they require you to take the TEAS after you are accepted. Hope this helps!

If my courses are accepted, GHC will be my only application for Spring. Hopefully I will hear something this week, then we can play the waiting game together!!!

Well I am soo happy there is someone waiting with me! Unfortunately, I am stuck waiting to see if my science courses are going to transfer in. Coming from out of state seemed to make the process take a little longer. So here I am, crossing my fingers! Have you applied anywhere else?

Thanks BeachKampingTalking! My lease is up in May, so if accepted, I would only be driving the 1.5 hour to class for the first semester and then could move closer.

It sounds like you have already been through a semester......As long as my transfer evaulation goes well and I am accepted, I will be driving 1.5 hours to get to class for the first semester. What do you think? Is this going to kill me, should I wait and apply for Fall when I will be living closer? Thanks!!!

If all goes well with my transfer evaluation, I will be applying for Spring entry into GHC Nursing Program. I know that if you plan to enter in the Spring, you must have all of your pre-requisites completed prior to the start of the Spring semster. This is because students entering the program in the Spring have no summers off to take these required courses. The way it was explained to me was that students who enter in the Fall have summers off and are able to complete the required courses during the summer. I am not sure if you are familiar with GHC application procedure. I have been looking at it quite a bit lately because the Spring deadline is September 15th. Eeek! They rank students on a point system, the nursing worksheet can be found under the admissions section of the nursing program website. This form will help you figure out your application score. Completing those courses prior to applying will give you a higher score. If you look at this worksheet, it might help you decide what will work best for you. Starting in the Fall, they are going to add the TEAS to the application process and use your score as part of their ranking. I hope this helps a little. I wish I could offer more help!
