Columbia Basin College (CBC) Nursing Program
Congrats on your acceptance to CBC. I am just finishing my first year there and will do the summer quarter too. I think they have a great program. Enjoy your summer & see you in the fall!

Any Columbia Basin College nursing students or hopefuls out there?
I honestly can't remember my exact score....it was in the 27's...funny how I don't remember it now...but when I was applying, I lived and breathed that index score....always trying to figure out how to get it higher! Yes, I'm sure the odds are in your favor with your score. :) Tina's advice of studying medical terminology before you start this fall would be great! I can't believe that they don't require medical terminology as a pre-req. I guess I figured they would be teaching a class on it when we got into the program.......nope. Some students had already taken it and I wish I would have! I didn't prepare ahead of time with the pharm math and just studied it as the quarter went along and did fine. The book they had us use this year is called Dimensional Analysis, I think. We took Pharm math the first quarter only, but then have to take a test the first day back each quarter to make sure we can still calculate drug dosages. So it's important to stay current on knowing how to do that. I'll be studying that again over spring break for when the quarter starts again in April! Purchase a stethoscope before they do the fundraiser sale the first couple of weeks of school (they'll tell you to wait to buy when at the soph class sale)....you'll want time to practice using it at home because you'll have a skills test within the first couple of weeks of the quarter. The students that had to wait for their stethoscope to arrive felt frustrated because they could only borrow a stethoscope to use during lab hours. You can find them online.....like stethoscope.com.....a lot of students have the Littman Cardiology III.

I sit right next to Tina! I think CBC has a great program...although I don't have anything to compare it to. But I've heard lots of great things about it and feel like I've learned so much since September. You definitely have to be disciplined and prepared to make a huge time commitment for this. I live 83 miles from the campus, so I spend nearly 3 hours a day in the car round-trip. What was your index score? Let me know when you get your letter! Good luck!

Hi there! I'm a first year nursing student at CBC. I started checking out this website as a prenursing student and over half way through my first year in nursing school, I still find valuable information here. Are you applying to the CBC program?

cant get into pre-reqs?
Registration time for pre-reqs was such a stressful time. I live 75 miles from the campus where I needed to take my pre-reqs. There are many people wanting to sign up for not a lot of classes offered. I was too nervous to try to register online in case my internet failed or something...so I would leave my house at 4:30 a.m...to be there at 5:45 a.m....to be the first one when the admission doors opened at 7 a.m. to register in person. I did this for several quarters. I was always fortunate to get the pre-reqs I needed. I know so many who didn't get in. If your school doesn't offer the pre-reqs you need....drive somewhere that does. If you want something bad enough you'll find a way to make it happen. I was accepted in nursing school and start this Sept. 2010. I will be driving 166 miles round trip a day, 5 days a week, for the next 2 years. Good luck!
