  1. Hey Cloggersmom, Have you registered for 1921? Do you know the last date we can register for this class? I believe we have to pay as soon as you register or your dropped. I see there are 75 seats for the class and 30 somthing still available. I'm assuming they will hold open enough seats for all that are starting the spring 2011 program to have a spot, but just wanted to see if you know the latest time you can register. Thanks!
  2. This is about as detailed as it gets. Thank you for taking the time to provide this information in such detail. Extremely helpful for me and many others, I'm sure. Double kudos.
  3. Thanks knittingmonster! You are very kind to help answer some of my questions. I am trying to juggle some things the first semester and the more I know in advance, the better I can prepare for juggling school and other that first semester. You said in first semester, we should have five weeks of clinicals and that clinicals happen every other week. So does this mean one week you have class, PLA, Practice skills time, and clinicals and the next you have class, PLA, practice skills time and NO CLINICALS? If so, during those weeks, I'm sure there is studying, reading to do, but the timeline to read and study is more flexible on those weeks since you aren't committed to being in the classes PLUS the clinical? You said clinicals don't start for a couple of weeks. Is there more time you spend in class on those first couple of weeks?
  4. For clinicals - I see they have listed a choice of Th/F; F/Sat; Sat/Sun and times being either 7a-3p ir 3p-11p. 1. Does the student get to pick which of these days and/or times they want? 2. If you pick one day/time, does it stay the same for the entire semester? 3. What if you want to make a change, let's say you were doing the Th/F 7a-3p and mid-semester you wanted to change to Sat/Sun 3p-11p? Is that allowable? For first semester (NURS 1921) I see for ONLY the first week class will be Tues/Wed/Thurs from 9-3 then subsequent weeks class will be Tues/Wed 9a-12noon. Is there other class time or should we expect to only be in class Tues/Wed from 9a-12noon? Thank you so much!!
  5. To any current or upcoming GPC student: Question #1: Will Spring 2011 students have the ipod Touch or ipad as part of the technology grant program? I read that this program was in existance currently with first year students having the ipod Touch and second year students the ipad. Does anyone know if this will continue for 2011 newly enrolled students? Question #2: Are there any currently enrolled GPC nursing students that would be willing to field some questions regarding clinicals and class time from me? I have been admitted to the Spring 2011 class and am trying to plan for family/work moving forward. Thanks!

  7. Has anyone heard if we will be using ipod Touches (or other) as first year nursing students starting in Spring 2011? I saw this article that overviews the pilot technology program in place this year for nursing and dental hygiene students. http://www.gwinnettforum.com/2010issues/10.0910.htm I was thinking of getting an ipod Touch, but don't want to carry around two of them if we are going to use loaners from the school's technology program.
  8. All of the classes are taught on the Clarkston campus with one skills lab (I believe) taught on Dunwoody campus. I believe the skills lab is a one day a semester type thing. I was told by one of the nursing faculty that they may move the nursing program to the Dunwoody campus, however that might not be for several years, if at all.
  9. gagirl88: The paperwork says the cpr and medical form must be received by the Department of Nursing before the Nursing Orientation which is Dec 9th. I wouldn't think you would need to move closer to the school campus from where you are. Depending on the semester, we will be on campus 3 days/week and we probably get out early enough for you to beat traffic.
  10. No problem. For the group that is accepted to Spring 2011 - where do you live? I am in Dunwoody.
  11. Just thought I'd post this info. I spoke with someone in the nursing department on the Dunwoody campus yesterday about clinicals. I had asked what hospitals GPC was partnered with and she told me Northside, St. Joes, Children's (Scottish Rite and Eggleston), Piedmont, Gwinnett medical Center, Dekalb Medical Center and Rockdale. She said she may have left off one, but that this is the list. They do try to get you as close to home as possible and you can switch if you find someone who wants to switch with you. You usually do clinicals in a group of 6 from your class. This group switches every semester with your clinical switch.
  12. Has anyone heard where all clinicals are? I'm wondering how far I might have to drive for clinicals and would love to know the worst case scenario (one furtherest away). I need to factor this into my decision. Any help from people who have heard of where clinicals are would be very helpful and much appreciated. I have asked the coordinator there, but they didn't give me any examples of hospitals that have been partners for clinical rotations. They did say they would try to base it on where you live and that if agreeable to both parties, you could switch out with another student. Thank you!
  13. Could anyone clarify if you get to pick when clinicals are (ie. can you pick WEEKDAYS versus WEEKENDS?) I need to ensure clinicals are not on the weekend and would love any confirmation from someone in the program at GPC now. Thank you.
  14. cloggersmom: I have two small kids, one in kindergarten and one in daycare, so I will not be working while in school. I hear it is extrememly intense and the reason that GPC posts a 100% pass rate on the NCLEX is because so many of their students don't end up graduating. GPC would rather hold students back if they don't perform well and ensure they are ready for the boards than allow them to move forward and then do poorly on the boards. For those who asked: GPA overall general education requuirements: 3.6 (Enrolled in Public Speaking, grades to come this semester. By Spring 2011 will only have one 3 hr. general education class HIST 2111 or 2112 to complete. Even though the information stated that you can start Spring semester with 6 general education hrs to complete, it seemed to be very important to the admissions department that you had less than 6 hrs to complete.) GPA science: 4.0 (Includes A&P I w/ lab and Microbiology. Currently enrolled in A&P II and microlab so those grades to come this semester) TEAS V: 88% individual, 96% nation I have a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from a 4 year university. Spring semester requirements for admission (both in what you have completed and scores) are more strict/competitive than Fall admission requirements due to space and the fact that Spring program start doesn't have a "down" summer session to use for taking extra classes. I hope this helps for those that either are looking to enroll or those that don't get in and want to reapply!
  15. The mailman didn't arrive until 6:30 tonight! He normally comes around 3-4p. I was accepted too!
  16. Pumpkin spice: Just curious where you got the info that 1000 people applied for the spring semester. When I went to the information session they informed us that there were usually 200-250 applicants for 60 spots in the spring and usually 350 applicants for 160 spots in the fall.
  17. Just curious - would GSU not go ahead and confirm your deferral to the Fall 2011 program? Have you received admission to the Spring 2011 GPC program?
  18. I am hoping to hear soon too! The waiting is killing me. I would like to start making plans to prepare if I get accepted (family, job, finances, etc). I wonder why they are waiting until later in the year to send out acceptance letters? Looks like in 2008 letters were sent out in July and there was a post in this thread that mentioned 2009 letters went out mid August. This year they are saying September. Does anyone know if they send out all 60 acceptance letters at once?
  19. I know this post is rather old, but was wondering if anyone can tell me if there are still nursing classes offered on the Dunwoody classes in the ADN program. If so, which ones were offered at Dunwoody? Thanks!
  20. Hello. Can anyone currently in the GPC program tell me how clinicals work? Do you get any say in where you would like your clinicals done? Thanks!
  21. GPC.com's website says the deadline is May 15th for Spring semester. I went to an information session and that sheet says the deadline is June 15th for spring semester. The process for application on the gpc.com/nursing site says you apply, then wait to be asked to sit for the TEAS once they deem you meet the minimum qualifications. After all this, it ends up being end of July before they have all their candidates w/ TEAS scores back. Then they need a month or so to evaluate, I guess.
  22. I never took Teas IV, so not sure of the difference, but I thought the TEAS V was not that difficult, especially the math. I studied two guides: The Kaplan Nursing Entrance Exams and The McGraw Hill nursing School Entrance Exams. I read both books from front to back and I took every practice test in the book. Know your rules for grammar and math as recommended in the study guides. There's not much you can do for reading except practice. I got lucky on the science portion. I have not taken Chemistry outside of high school and have never taken physics. I think if you can really learn everything in the study guides that you will fair well on the TEAS V. I also took a practice TEAS V on the ati site the day before my actual exam which helped me see how I might score. I did better on the actual exam than the practice. I hope this is helpful!
  23. I applied to GPC for Spring 2011. Just took the TEAS V two weeks ago and scored 88% Individual Score. I have an undergrad Business degree 1995 from UNC Chapel Hill (3.25 GPA overall). I've completed two science pre-reqs A&P1 and Micro and have a 4.0 in those two. I'm currently enrolled in A&PII. Will post again if if receive any info. Thanks for starting the thread.
  24. I am investigating this program and a career change from Pharma. I heard there is currently a pharma rep in the program. Do you know this student? I would love to talk with him/her about their experience and whether it has been worth the move so far. Thanks! Also - was there a certain incident that happened that caused you to feel this way about the program? Would you go a different route next time? I have a BS in Business Administration from UNC and am weighing a program like this versus just a ADN/RN degree. I already have the business degree and experience, just now interested in the nursing portion to round me out!
