San Antonio RN Methodist Internship
Hi guys, sorry it took me so long to reply! I worked at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Surgical floor for 1 year. The internship helped because you got to review equipment, and some nursing school stuff. I quit (without even having another job yet) because I couldn't take it anymore. No one helped anyone, Charge nurses helped sometimes but played around most of the time or were incompetent. They only care about patient satisfaction and not at all about the nurses. Techs refused to do their jobs, although they were understaffed. New manager came in, who is really great but she has a LOT of mess to clean up from the previous manager. Hopefully, things will get better there. But when I left at the beginning of July, 2 other nurses had just left and 2 more left after me. Friends that still work there hate it. But I do hear the night staff is much better. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the info, aaspender. I have heard good things about MSTH from others with experience there. It is a smaller hospital, so I think that helps. And thanks for the heads up with that MD!

How Do I Follow Up After an Online Application?
I waited until the application period was closed and then called to get the Nurse Recruiter's contact info. I sent her an e-mail expressing my interest and asking when I should hear back. I got a call from her the next day and was offered 2 positions, so it must have worked. I suggested the same to my friend who hadn't hear anything from any hospitals and then she got calls back after she did the same. Hope it goes well for you!

San Antonio RN Methodist Internship
Argo, yes I did take the position as MSTH. I did the paperwork this week and start the internship orientation on Monday. I have asked around with friends since I took the position and everyone has had great things to say about MSTH. On my floor, (a med-surg, but mostly surgical) the least amount of time anyone in my peer interview had been there was 2 years. The others had been on that floor 6 and 25 years. Also, the nursing manager has had that position for 15 years. I think it will be a great floor to work on, and I am looking forward to it!

Most satisfying Nursing Specialties?
I think that once you go through nursing school and your clinicals, you will know what you love best. Each clinical takes you through a semester of L&D, medsurg, icu, pedi, psych, and all the most important areas. I didn't know what area to go into until I went through clinicals. Try to keep an open mind as you go through them. And as far as your interest in keeping busy, I can't think of any area where you would have much down time!

what questions should a new nurse ask at interviews?
I just finished my interviews and got 2 offers. I asked things like: Pt acuity? Nurse-to-pt ratio? How long has the nurse manager been on the floor/unit? Does the charge nurse take pts also? Nurse turnover? Usual length of stay of the pt? How is scheduling handled, ie self-scheduling? These questions REALLY helped me when it came down to deciding which job to take. Also try to mention your experience relevant to the job. For example I interviewed for a surgical floor, so I was sure to mention that I did clinical on a surgical floor. Also, the hospital has barcode med administration so I explained that I had experience with that also from clinicals. Just try to stay calm and confident. You'll do fine! Good luck!!

HELP!!! Anyone from San Antonio?
Thank you so much RN4LOVE! You have been a huge help! I have heard similar things about Metropolitan, and I was also concerned with the nurse to patient ratio. I think I will be accepting the Methodist Specialty and Transplant position! I am excited to finally have a job, especially an internship.

Methodist San Antonio
Thanks for the info! I interviewed for the med-surg floors at methodist specialty and transplant and methodist metropolitan. I got offered both positions! I think I'm going to accept the one at Specialty and Transplant. Lower nurse:pt ration, and lower acuity.

HELP!!! Anyone from San Antonio?
Does anyone know anything about Methodist Metropolitan or Methodist Specialty and Transplant? I was just offered a GN/RN internship at both and I told them I would let them know by tomorrow (Friday). I need info about which is better, anything would help! Both are med-surg and have the same pay. Thanks for any help with making this decision.

Hi! I have interviews next week for the Methodist internship. One is medsurg at Methodist Metropolitan and the other one is surgical at the Specialty and Transplant hospital. Any info about either of those? Or info about Methodist's internship? Any info would help!
