  1. fast forward! I'm now a lactation educator counselor. I live in Miami but did my training with the university of san Francisco extension and I'm also a birth doula!! My company The Village Maternity Services is scheduled to officially launch Feb 2014 and we will be offering services in the bird road art district of Miami. It was good coming back to this blog! Seeing where I first started while still in nursing school when it was all just a dream. The goal is to still open that birthing center and I'm going to do it! Thank you everyone that gave me input. your suggestions were truly helpful!!!
  2. Susan! WOW! Thank you so much for that information. That has been so helpful. This definitely gives me a place to start.
  3. tanzanite[color=#1750ff] [color=#1750ff]are you referring to seniors helping seniors? looks like a good franchise. with the baby boomers getting ready to retire, i thought it would be something great to get into... don't have the kind of cash liquid or in assets the company requires though. how were you able to come up with the financing if you don't mind me asking
  4. Hi Susan, My name is Nicole and I'm so glad you posted this information. I'll be graduating in mid April 2012 with an ADN. Have a previous BS in psychology and am already applying for an MBA. I've been trying to find my niche. I know I would like to run my own business and more than likely it will be in healthcare. I realized that I love L&D, PP, lactation, and have been volunteering with the CLCs. I love this area of nursing. I was initially looking at just becoming a certified lactation consultant and doing private consultations but then I began to feel that this service alone wasn't enough. It made me remember how I felt when I was pregnant and really wanted to give birth outside of the hospital and there were no birthing facilities in my area. The only one center was an hour away.....no bueno. Anyhow, after doing lots of research, I think this is a much needed service. I would like to open a chic, high-end birth center. All the ones I visited were a little dated. I did check out yahoo, but it looks like the groups have very little activity and a low number of members.... other than attending the AABC workshops, do you have any suggesting on how I can get started? I'm in the Miami, Fl area.
  5. Hey dark light: How did things work out for you?! I'm about to be in the same situation except I have a one year old. Planning on starting nursing school in January. Just got my first job as a CNA. it's LTC and the pay is 8.75 no differential even if you work nights. I'm still looking though because I know that even without experience that's way way way at the bottom of the pay scale.
  6. I'm taking a Saturday class @ Baptist. Last lecture just went on, and on, and on Nothing against the professor, we just have a LOT to cover. Glad I just finished up Chemistry. So far it's definitely becoming handy. We have quizzed every week and our first exam will be on 5 chapters yay (sarcasm)
  7. I got study material from the local library. I reccommend Mosby's. I just sent in my application to challenge the test. About how long will it take for them to send me test day? how long after will can realistically start working? Thanks
