Path to Management at new organization
Hello fellow nurses, I would appreciate any guidance you can spare about the career path I should take to return to work. I've tried getting mentorship through ANA but it's fallen through twice. My situation: I left my Med/Surg job after 9 years when my maternity leave expired because I didn't want to work bedside anymore. I have 4 years of Charge experience. I'm interesting in leadership (Assistant Manager or Manager) as my next role, and I have my sights set on applying at a Magnet hospital/organization. I'm currently in an RN-BSN program with 1 class left (anticipated graduation is Dec 2024). I plan to pursue my MBA in September, and then a BSN-DNP after finishing with the MBA. Should I apply for Per Diem Med/Surg positions at the Magnet hospital to get myself familiarized with the organization, and then apply for Management once I have my BSN? Should I apply for Management at the Magnet hospital in a non-bedside nursing dept while finishing my BSN? (I have no classes or job from May-Sept). Thanks in advance!

WGU Sept 2014..Anyone??
It looks like a few of us are starting this fall! We should have a support group! I was originally aiming to start the RN-MSN Leadership on Oct. 1st but with how quickly the admissions process has been going, I could start Sept. 1st. I only had 2 schools to request transcripts from, and as of today, WGU has received them both. Hopefully I'll know how many CUs I need to complete when I speak with my enrollment counselor again. I was really excited to learn that we do earn our BSN along the way. Now I'm looking forward to working on my next degree!

San Diego California
Expect mid 30s/hr. It's definitely enough for a single person to live on, even more so if you have roommates. My coworker is doing just fine renting on his own.
-
What age did you complete your BSN or ASN?
ADN: 27 yo in 2013 RN-MSN: Goal is to earn this degree by end of 2016

How many scrubs do you own?
I was working per diem so I got by with only 2 sets for the first 3 months of working. I have purchased 4 more sets and 2 coordinating tops since I will be working full-time soon, which brings my total to 6 sets (or 8 outfits). I would probably own more if sizing wasn't so limited for me.

Starting Salary [new grad]?
New grad ADN working in a hospital in SoCal for $35/hr.

Want to schedule but NO AVAILABLE DATES?
How often have you checked Pearson Vue for test dates? New dates can become available daily as people reschedule their exams so don't lose hope.
-
What brand of scrubs do you prefer?
I prefer the sizing and softness of Grey's Anatomy. I really wish they offered a wider range of prints. I had my heart set on buying cute prints for nursing but unfortunately, the only tops that fit me are solids.

CNA jobs San Diego
If you don't need to work immediately, then I suggest petitioning to take the CNA certification exam after you finish the first semester of nursing school. Some hospitals may be willing to consider nursing students for their CNA/PCT positions, even for per diem. A former classmate and I were both working per diem at hospitals while in school, and we are blessed to be hired as RNs now for our respective hospitals. Also, continue to volunteer at the hospital because it will not only help you establish connections, but will also demonstrate your commitment to the hospital/organization to any possible hiring managers. Good luck with your decision!

Scripps new grad program summer 2013
My panel consisted of Mercy SD, CV and Encinitas, and I received an offer from CV DOU and Encinitas M/S. I'm leaning toward Encinitas because I prefer M/S over DOU.

Scripps new grad program summer 2013
If you've applied to Scripps and completed the TalentMine assessment within the last 12 months, your results should be submitted once you log in. This was the case for me last week. The simulation questions didn't appear for me, and when I contacted HR about this, I was informed that my application was complete and it wasn't necessary for me to do the scenario questions.

Accepted into City College or Palomar by the point system???
I don't think they disclose the actual point cut-off during their info session or over the phone.

New NS, What's your first "nursing shoe" gonna be?
I don't like the look of clogs or Crocs so I bought some New Balance 410 walking shoes. I'll have some time to break them in before I start school. Hope they work out.

ADN programs around San Diego?
No, I was accepted under their new multi-point criteria.

ADN programs around San Diego?
There's also San Diego City College. I'll be starting there on Aug. 22nd. The courses are going to be taught in a new building across the street from the main campus, which to me is a plus.
