  1. got my clue card last week and sent it over along with my cpr certification. bwal- try getting in touch with IT or something, they should be able to help you figure out whats wrong. I saw there are some questions about parking and stuff- if you go to the facebook group (uthscsa nursing aug 2012) there are some answers ad mike ashburn is part of it and has answered a bunch of questions too.
  2. monica, i actually didnt have a problem and completed it yesterday. maybe talk to IT?
  3. got mine done end of dec and still haven't heard anything back yet either... i don't know if we are required to get the computers or not or what they have on them. we will find all that out at orientation though. i went to hand in my insurance paperwork and immunization form and saw a nursing student and she said that in regards to scrubs- we buy them from the school and to wait until orientation. also we only wear them for clinicals not lectures.
  4. Paige, I emailed you the tuition estimate, let me know if you didnt get it. Sorry for the thread not being so active lately, personally I have been busy with work (also at Methodist!!) and making sure I got my pre-reqs all lined up at SAC. Anyone else taking any classes?? I'm taking Chem 2 on W nights with the lab on M.
  5. I got on the waitlist for Zone 3R Lot 5 and am number 7, so i'l just keep my fingers crossed. I got the official word on laptops by the way... (copied from the UTHSCSA website UT Health Science Center School of Nursing :: Computer Requirements ) Effective May 2011: Students admitted into the School of Nursing undergraduate program will be required to purchase a laptop computer from the Health Science Center when entering the program. This computer will be formatted with standard programs and on-line learning resources. Windows-based and Apple platforms will be available. just wanted to share the info!
  6. So, I too have been super excited... got my fafsa done, fingerprints/background check- just waiting on the blue paper, turned in my shots records and did the HIPPA and BSTAT cert ... just have to make a copy of my CPR cert and figure out what I want to do for insurance and turn in financial aid stuff. For parking, what lot did you get on the waiting list for? I dont know where they are...

  8. health service corps?? you have any info on it? that sounds like a deal that is too good to be true! for those that are new(er than me) to sa, welcome!! it took a little bit of getting used to for me, but now i love it! personally, i would suggest studying a map for a while- the streets are very confusing here. I was reading with the parking it varies depending on what lot you get... and you want to get on the waiting list asap... but (im a big nerd and already went and found stuff out) because we do not start until may.. we wont be in the system till april so we cant get on a waiting list until then- booo. thank you so much for the email btw, VERY helpful... and honestly, made me feel a lot better. I had looked at the CO they had online and from how I understood it (clearly wrong) i was looking at like 60,000.... so... 15,000 is music to my ears right now haha.
  9. I also heard the computers are starting in May (yay no books to carry) and I tried to follow the chart they had online for estimated cost of attendance.. very confusing. Could you email that to me too?? [email protected] I have accepted the fact that I am going to be paying student loans for a verrryyyyyy long time. oh well... I already turned in my shot records and am waiting for the blue card from the background check. According to Mike Ashburn, we arent getting school emails for a little while.. since it is only end of Dec and we dont start until May.. but I check my email every day for it- just in case haha. What does everyone have their degrees in? And where is everyone from??? My degree is in Business Management and I moved from sunny south florida to SA last July so I can start my Texas resident stuff and only pay out of state for the summer semester. Feel free to find me on facebook! Doba Abrams (there is only one =) )
  10. I've been watching all the UTHSCSA posts for a while waiting for someone to start one up for the May 2011 accelerated program, and finally decided to take the initiative and see if there is anyone else out there that will be or hope to be attending the program. Has anyone taken the TEAS downtown at UTSA and gotten their scores back? Mine are still blocked and I want to know how I did... Also, anyone else hear back yet? I'd love to find out who my future classmates are!!
  11. I had not been aware of BSHP, thank you for telling me about it. How long is the program? Is there any other information you can give me on it? Additionally, I hadn't heard of people getting their RN-BSN online. What schools offer that? Would a hospital or nursing school (for higher education) look down on that? Thanks for any help you can give me!
  12. Hopefully UTHSCSA. Wont be attending until Jan or May 2011. I want to move out early so I can (hopefully) get a job and make some money first.
  13. Moving from South Florida to San Antonio, Texas for nursing school. At least my fiance will be there. Good Luck with the move!
  14. I was looking into Army Nursing as well (to the point that I was in Army ROTC in college), and as Meriwhen said, there is a very good chance of you getting stationed overseas. Nurses are in high demand al over, but even more so in the Military. I, for personal reasons, have decided that if I do indeed go into the Armed forces, I will be going in under the Airforce. If you speak with a few people most will tell you that AF is the way to go. Quality of life is better, deployments (for nurses) are MUCH shorter. Either way, I suggest going in to speak with some recruiters. They will give you everything sugar coated, so make sure you take the information they give you and then discuss it with an outside source. Also, keep in mind whichever you decide to do- if any, you will need to be in shape and pass Physical Training exams even though you will be a nurse. (Also, from personal experience, Army Uniforms are very unforgiving on the female body- they are not made for hips, it sucked)
  15. Thank you both so much for all of your help! I'm going to be looking into the other schools that were mentioned. UTHSCSA is my 1st choice, but I know I need to apply to a bunch of nursing schools and keep my fingers crossed and hope I get into one. The nursing school near me right now, Florida Atlantic University, has over 400 applicants for 65 spots. Its a shame that even though there is a shortage of nurses, the schools are making it tougher and tougher to get in. Thanks again for the help!
