  1. Thanks for the replies. My husband and I are looking to relocate to wherever necessary for a few years just to get all these paid for. So I am hoping to find a good opportunity once I graduate. It is crazy how much debt you have to go in just to further your degree.
  2. Hi. I am currently in NP school with about a year left. I was just curious if anyone had any luck getting the hospital they are working for to pay off their loans or a portion of them. I know some facilities have, but I was just wondering how common it was. I am of course willing to relocate to wherever necessary and sign a contract. If you did get loan repayment did in decrease your salary and how long was your contract? Thanks in advance :-)
  3. Those ratios sound wonderful. I guess the whole world isn't like my hospital. I love taking care of the type of patients I take care of. But I don't feel that I can do it safely when I have such a large load. I am considering going to another hospital. But it seems like in this area. (I live in Kentucky) Everywhere is the same. I was thinking about moving to a larger city in Kentucky or a surrounding state thinking maybe bigger better hospitals would be different.
  4. KY $19/hr for RN base pay. $2.50 bedside pay. $3.00 Night shift I work CTVU Days. So. $21.50/hr
  5. I was just wondering how other hospitals are around the country as far as nursing goes. I work on CTVU at my hospital. We take care of post CABG patients (usually greater than 24 hourse post-op), Thoracotomy patients, Vascular surgeries, Chest Pain, NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, Valve surgeries, and pretty much any other cardiac problems. I will take 6 patients Its a 40 bed unit with usually 2 or 3 aides depending on how many patients we have on the floor. I may have 2-3 CABG patients and sometimes I feel very overwhelmed by the load I have. It seems to me that this should be considered a step-down unit and we should only have 4 patients if we are taking care of Open heart patients. Please tell me how your hospital is? I would like to know if every place is like this or if I should just do something else. Because sometimes the stress gives me chest pain and I should be a patients too!
  6. I recently worked at a different hospital. in the float pool. The ratio on all of the cardiac floors besided HVICU was 6:1 with maybe one CMT if you were lucky. I now work at a different hospital and the ratio is still maybe 5-6:1 but there are 2-3 aides on the floor along with a unit secretary/tele tech. So its better but I would love to have a smaller ratio.
