@kah- The University of Connecticut has rolling admissions. They do admissions reviews 3 times/year (January, June, September, I think). There are prereqs for their program, though... Check their website for the details.

@Hopeful- I applied to FNP, but I didn't get an email yet either. I'm trying not to worry because they said Friday, which leads me to believe that they are just beginning to send emails today and won't be fininished until Friday. (Not that that makes it any easier to wait!) They do have about 200 personalized emails to send out...

I don't think that she specifically mentioned the timing of the rejection letters, but I got the impression that they would be sent out at the same time as the emailed invitations. So my assumption is that they will be delivered sometime next week.

Hi all, The admissions office told me today that emails will be sent at the end of this week for those of us who will be invited to interview. USPS will bring the bad news to those of us who do not get invited to interview. Looks like we'll all be holding our breath for a few more days....

Angie- How did the GRE go for you? I bombed mine. And I don't mean "I was hoping for high 700s and got low 600s..." I mean bombed. I actually don't feel too upset by it. When the powers that be review my application package, they will have to notice that my GRE scores don't reflect my writing and undergrad grades. Sure, it would have been nice to rock the GRE, but I doubt it will make or break my shot at an interview. I can't believe this is only the first (technical) day of waiting. 42 days to go....

I got everything in now except for the GRE, which is on the docket for tomorrow evening... I'm so nervous. I know that my GRE score won't make or break my overall application, but it certainly won't hurt to have a good score. (And with my lack of studying "good" is the best I can hopre for!) I can't believe the deadline is almost here. Before we know it, we'll be on here obsessing over what time of day we'll get the interview emails and what does it mean that you got yours at 9:30 AM and I still haven't heard at 2:00 PM... Lol! I was in your (almost) same position. I finished undergrad in Urban Studies this past May, have no work experience (none!), and had been at a comm-coll taking RN pre-req's for a few semesters (in addition to the undergrad classes at the university).... I'm actually in a comm-coll RN program now, but not so happy with it. It's the top-ranked program in my state as far as NCLEX pass-rates go, but I find it's not exactly what I want to do, so I'm now applying to Yale's GEPN program for next year. Enough rambling on my part... To answer your question, I asked 3 of my undergrad professors for rec letters. One was my major advisor, another was a prof in my major, and the third was my foreign language prof (only prof I had for 4 consecutive semesters). I also asked my clinical instructor from the RN program that I'm currently in, but that was my back-up letter, as she doesn't know me as well as my other professors... I would think that the admissions people at the entry into MSN programs expect you to have references that aren't quite so relevant to nursing. I mean, they're entry-into programs, right? I would suggest choosing the professors who knew you the best and, of course, liked you. If those happen to be professors from courses that aren't particularly relevant to nursing, maybe you can use your essay/personal statement to work in how you'll apply what you learned in those courses to your nursing career. (Your understanding of chem is a basic foundation of physiology and/or safe and competent drug practices, for example; or perhaps it's that psych broadened your awareness of the role that an idividual's stage of life plays in one's physical and emotional health...) Anyway, you get my point. Any entry-into program is going to want to know that your professors, regardless of subject matter, found you motivated and intelligent and that you are capable of applying your background to the science and art of nursing. I wish you much luck with your application process!

I'm applying to Yale GEPN for FNP. I barely have my entire application package scraped together, but I believe we will hear re interview offers in about 6 weeks. Eek!

Allie- I'm at NVCC. It's ok. No complaints with the program itself, but 6 weeks into the program I figured out that being an RN is not what I want to do. I was going to apply to UConn and Yale last year (to have started the program this past Aug/Sept), but life got hold of me and it never happened. I wasn't even planning to apply to the CC program and then I decided it would make a good back-up plan...hahaha... That sure bit me in the @$$, didn't it? My background is in Urban and Community Studies (I just graduated from UConn this past May), and I'm applying for FNP (did I say that already?) I'm in Oakville... next door to Waterbury if that helps you to see it in your mental map. Good luck studying for the GRE... I'm not even going to bother. (lol) We'll have to compare score later in the week. OH!- the reason I signed in here tonight... I just submitted my application!!! I'm so nervous that I missed an error in my essay or that my resume format will get messed up in the upload/download process. :uhoh21:

Ok, now I'm blowing up this message board... but I have a question for everyone... I haven't worked in more than 3 years, but I have been in school full-time. I called the admissions office to ask if all 3 of my letters could be academic and the woman I spoke with said yes, that's absolutely fine. BUT I just noticed the big, bold warning on the application checklist that says: "Out of school for 2 years or less, please submit two academic references and one professional reference. Applications that do not follow these guidelines will not be considered "complete" and will not be reviewed the Admissions Committee." Now I'm freaking out. Does anyone else have all academic letters? Or was anyone else told that all academic letters are fine? Ugh. I hate this stress.....

Angie- Not that you'd take a random stranger's word for it anyway, but I realized I made a mistake in saying that the hard copy documents had to be postmarked by November 1st. They do, in fact have to be recieved by November 1st. Not that it matters anyway, but I know I saw that the package had to be postmarked by the 1st, I wonder where that was...?

Angie- Don't worry about driving to YSN to get your app packet in by 11/1. It only has to be postmarked by 11/1, not received. I have not studied for the GRE one minute. I just don't have time. (I'm in my first semester of the CT Comm Coll program now, but hopefully I'll be transferring next fall!). I usually do pretty well on those type of general knowledge/ability tests though, so I'm not too worried about the GRE (perhaps I should be?! lol). What specialty are you applying to, if you don't mind me asking? I'm goinf for FNP. I know that's one of the more popular ones, so we'll see how competitive it really is...

You're going to be a great nurse someday! The difference between an ADN (associate degree in nursing) and a BSN (bachelor of science in nursing) is weather you go to a 2-year school (think community college) or a 4-year school (like a state university). You don't need an ADN before you get a BSN. You do need a BSN before you get an MSN (master of science in nursing). The NCLEX (the test you take to become an RN after you've finished nursing school) is a national test and a national license, so your state wouldn't have any part of that. (If you went on to become an advanced practice nurse in a specialty area, that would be different... but nevermind that for now.) I would suggest having your school guidance counselor help you set up an appointment with an admissions officer at one or more of your local nursing schools. The admissions officer(s) will be able to explain to you all of your career options in nursing and what each of those options will require. The admissions officer(s) may also be able to point you in the right direction for senior-year courses that will help you out once you get to college, or maybe even prevent you from having to take certain courses in college (like some biology and chemistry courses). I think I speak for most of us on these message boards when I say that we will be happy to answer any questions you may have as your pursuit of a nursing career continues. :)

Hi all, out of curiousity.... What specialties did you all apply for? What are your backgrounds in? Where is everyone from? Did I see that some of you are also from CT? Allie, You're not the only one taking the GRE next week. I'll be there on Thursday. Nothing like waiting until the last minute, huh? I am still waiting on my last reference letter. I have 3 letters now, but 1 of those is from my "back-up" reference. Also, I hate to admit this, but (cough, cough) my essay is barely started (cough). I know I should feel quite stressed about this last matter, but I'm one of those sit-down-and-don't-get-up-until-it's-finished type of people. I can't focus on anything else once I'm in the writing process, so the essay is going to be my weekend project.... (sigh) Has everyone else finished everything? Am I the only one waiting until the last minute? On second thought, please don't tell me if that is the case.

I got my letter today, as well. I got into my first choice, NVCC. I thought I'd be excited. Maybe I will be once the relief of not having to wait anymore wears off. Congratulations to everyone else who got accepted, and good luck to those who have been wait-listed.

Well, I guess there is no way for them to have known if I had already tried to send it or not. They didn't ask me about it; they just sent the letter requesting that I get it in. It may have something to do with the fact that all of my pre-reqs were already in; that is to say that the missing transcript didn't contain anything relevant to the program. (It was jus a CCC transcript that had 1 class I had taken several years ago online.) So maybe that's why... Because all of my pre-reqs were in by Feb 1st.

Oh, and from stalking these boards I've come to the conclusion that letters went out no later than April 10th last year. So I do believe that if they aren't already in the mail, they will be VERY soon. I imagine that they send letters out in attempt to coincide with registration dates, so that nursing students know what they'll need to register for before before all of those popular sciences fill up!

I got a letter mid-March from NVCC asking for a missing transcript. Truthfully, I was quite surprised that they offered me the opportunity to submit it. That actually raised my hopes because my line of thinking was that if I wasn't near the top of the rank order they wouldn't bother asking for missing items. Anyway... they gave me until March 31 to get it to them, so I had it sent around the 24th. I meant to call to make sure they recieved it, but never got around to it... Oh well, I guess I'll find out soon enough! I'm quite surprised to see that other applicants got letters saying that they were missing application items and so their applications were denied. Perhaps it depends on the school you submit to?
