  1. Just took the NCLEX-PN this morning. I shut off at 85 question. I was freaking out thinking I must have failed. Came home and tried the trick and got the good pop up!!
  2. The first class graduated August 2009. That is why only four took the exam. A lot of students waited so they could study more or had to wait to save up the $300+ needed to take the exam. The nursing program is new.
  3. I guess you can sign up to get a laptop but financial aid told me to just request extra money for living expenses and buy it out right cause it's cheaper. I have started my clinicals. I only have one more mod to go, I'm done Dec 3!!! Clinicals are good. I had a horrible teacher first mod but other than that I enjoy it and learn a lot. The classes are hard. You need to think differently to take the tests. Just study a lot and you should be fine!
  4. Welcome. :) I'm not sure about placing the new grads with jobs. They have a career office that will help you find a job. I'm not sure of the outcome because I have not talked with any of the new grads. One came and spoke with us. She works at one of the places we did our clinicals. Se had the job before she even graduated. They snatched her up based on her clinical performance. The program is longer than other schools because they are including your prerequisites in with the nursing classes. The first six months or so were pre-reqs and the remaining 8 or nine months were nursing classes. Hope that answers all your questions.
  5. The way it was explained to us no.
  6. Ok I guess the ATI test is our exit exam. They just told us it was a predictor for the NCLEX, so that's why I did not know what you meant. :) For my class which is graduating December 2010 there are now ten of us. We started with about 30 maybe more. I know the first clsas Graduated in August of 2009. I believe there were 9 in that class. I spoke with one of the students last month and she said she took the NCLEX in December of 2009. She also said many of the students were having a hard time coming up with the money for the test. So that may be why it only shows four. I guess a lot of people waited to take it. It is a good school but very small.
  7. Hmm not really sure what this "exit exam" you are talking about is. I do know that you take an ATI test before your graduate that predicts how well you do on the NCLEX. I go in Albany and I'm graduating in December. I have not heard about about any exit exams. I also have to lol about the 100% pass rate. As far as I know NYC has not graduated any students yet.
  8. As far as I know, no you do not. We do take a class right before you graduate that helps you study for the Nclex and you register for it. They take the money for the test right out of your boards.
  9. I am not attending in NYC but I'm sure they do things the same in all of the schools. Orientation-They will tell you any missing paperwork you have, you will get your schedule, meet you department chair and get a tour of the school. Books-Someone from the bookstore will come on the first day and bring you to get your books. Clothes-Everyone wears normal clothes. You will wear scrubs when you go to clinicals. Hope that answers your questions. :)
  10. I am a student at the Albany campus. They just opened in NYC so I don't think you will find very many students here. Have you called and talked them? They are great about giving information when you want to enroll.
  11. I have seen this comment on 2 different threads about Mildred Elley. Yes they are Accredited. The one in NYC is a satellite school operating from the Albany campus.
  12. I think NYC is about three and a half hours away from Albany. I'm not sure of the price but $30000 sounds a little high. If your doing LPN it's only 16 months so I can't see it costing that much. I was able to get financial aid and federal loans. I'm not sure of the options for private loans. I bet you could call and they would be able to give you all the information over the phone. They are really great about answering questions when you are trying to enroll. :)
  13. I attend the Albany campus on the weekends. :) There are a couple students that travel from NYC. I think they have somewhere they stay on the weekends we have school.
  14. Your Welcome! The test is very easy. Not like tests you would take at other schools. I don't know much about the new campus in NYC. I do know that they can't guarantee that you will be able to finish everything there. They say you may have to travel to Albany or they may have affiliates with other colleges in NYC.
  15. I currently attend Mildred Elley. There are good things and bad things about the program. A few things I like: -I can attend on the weekend and still work during the week -They split up the semesters into two "mods" so the course load is lessened. -Lifetime job placement assistance -The classes are a lot smaller than they would be at HVCC -Very short if any waiting list The bad: -Things can be very unorganized at times. -In order to add or drop classes you have to go through the program director. She used to be there a lot but is dropping down to part time and quitting. -I don't feel like I was prepared for the intensity of the nursing program. I just finished my first mod of nursing classes and I barely passed. I previously had a 3.9 GPA. Nursing tests are very hard and require a different way of thinking. I don't feel my teacher prepared us for that. I now what I have to do for my next class and will study harder. We lost over half the class in this one class. -When I enrolled it was never mentioned that the clinicals would be every weekend. -They will accept ANYBODY. Some of the other students are not so nice, if you know what i mean. Several fights almost broke out. I have gone to other colleges and never experienced anything like this. Overall I think it is an alright school. It's a good school for someone who had a hard time at other larger community colleges. The tuition is high but I think it may be that way all around. I did just get a letter saying they are not raising rates this year. Good luck to you whatever you decide!
