  1. Sure, just read through the dozens of post on the threat. It offers tons of information given by students that are actually in the school. Hope that helps!
  2. That's inconsequential you should know yourself passing in class is meaningless if you do bot retain the knowledge to pass your NCLEX. Otherwise you would be left with a meaningless degree with no liscense.
  3. Current Sophomore Student Starting class size is around 60, my class now is around 50. We have had meetings with the Dean of the school and from her mouth she has admitted that we are NOT NLN accredited. We are working towards it but there is no set time frame as to when that will happen. Our NLN passing rate is also from what I know in the low to mid 80th percentile. When I filed for my 2011 financial aid for SPSON they gave me the passing rate for the previous year or two I cant remember specifically. All I can say is do your research, I dont believe SPSON is the best choice out there but some people dont really have a choice. The school is so poorly coordinated/managed I sometimes find it inconceivable and often none of us feel like we are really getting what we are paying so much for, 500+ per credit. I see it for what it is. A chance at an education and to take my NCLEX. What you do with it is your own business.
  4. Anything is possible, I found the beginning of the semester to be most difficult. It was a big adjustment process for me, changing the way you read the questions on the quiz and how much time I needed to put into studying. I think its possible to work part time and excel in the program. Don't be discouraged I pretty much failed the first quizes for 100 and 101. The margin for error on those quizzes are pretty slim 25 questions so if you get more than 5 wrong its an epic FAIL!
  5. Yes they will accept any credits from a CUNY, but I am a little fuzzy with the transfer policy. I planned on taking some Pre Reqs over the summer to save time and money. However I am not sure if the actuall grade will transfer and bear weight on you're GPA. I mean pre reqs are just fluffer courses and should be considered and easy way to bolster your overall GPA. For you guys in 1st semester Nur 100 is 3 credits, so is Psych103. They have the same weight but Nur 101 is SOOOOOO much harder....anyway my point is basically you have to figure out if you want to paying several hundred dollars less for a class at a CUNY and just having it come in as a T(Transfer Credit). Or take it at SPSON and actually have it factor into you're GPA.
  6. For anyone taking micro which I believe will be in you're 3rd semester, you should know that they do not offer it in the school. Due to a lack of a proper lab room, you have to take it else were. If you decide to due it during the semester I think they send you to QCC, but dont quote me on that....I do know that they don't offer it on campus at Queens.
  7. Micromedex(Drug Book) is the only one I really found useful and a converter app since everything is in the metric system....other than that good luck.
  8. For you're Nur 101 skills/clinical the first few weeks it is just going to be skills lab where you will learn basic techniques. Then around the 3rd or 4th week you guys are going to split up into a group of about 9 and go to you're clnical sites. Skills lab is 2hrs and clinical days are 6hrs. So once you start clinicals, half of our group reported to SPSON on say a Tuesday and did Skills while the other half went to Clinical. Then on Thursday that group that went to Skills goes to Clinical and vice versa. You def need a GOOD Stethoscope, don't get the cheapest one you can find or you wont hear anything. Penlights are preferred.
  9. For me. Nur100 3hrs Nue101 3hrs Nur102 2hrs Nur103 1hr Skills lab is 2 hrs and your clinicals should be 6hrs.
  10. They certainly don't make things easy on you, but the good things in life never are. If you get in and decide to go just think. The school gives you an opportunity to take the NCLEX, in the end that's all that matters. If I had the grades of the time to wait on those unbelievably long lists for a CUNY program I would have. But I dont. Spend more time studying and less time complaining is my best advice. Big difference between constructive criticism and plain old whining....
  11. Have you tried calling the school or visiting? Evening classes begin at 4:30 PM and depending on what classes you have can end from 9-10
  12. I totally agree with Warning, the school is SOOOOOO unorganized. But HEY! If you have the grades to get into a CUNY program or don't mind waiting years to get into one of their programs then by all means go ahead. Its and education and no one said it was going to be made easy for you. I was personally a little disappointed with the class size being so large....I am sure it won't stay that big though. BTW one book you will need without a question is Fundamentals buy it used for a cheaper price.
  13. I would say buy all you're books online, used. I used half.com, there is no point in buying them at the book store in school. As for advice just get ready to put in some real hard work, a lot of stress is coming you're way. =)
  14. They just gave us the schedule for January. (Fall Freshman here!). Official first day of class is January 3rd but I am pretty sure you guys are going to come in earlier then that for Orientation to meet the staff and discuss areas of concern. Good luck all, the school is not perfect but nothing in life is easy! Get ready the first half of the semester is quite the challenge.
  15. Check you're email box's, new email just got sent out with extended book list and scrub info! 18bucks for top and bottom, not bad
  16. Well its pretty basic from what I experienced. 5 years and that's it, if you want to be 100% sure I would suggest you contacting the school to find out from them. Its not just about the difficulty, consider the money you will save. 500 per CREDIT! At the CUNY that I went to one class cost me about 500. So find out, couldnt hurt right?
  17. Try googling St. Pauls School of Nursing
  18. I already ordered my books, but do you think we will need our stethoscope and cuff by the time we start school?
  19. Me to! nice to meet you, I am one of the 5 guys at the BLS class. I think it must have been 40 females to 5 guys which was kind of surprising to me, I thought male nurses were on the rise. Oh well it was't much of a surprise it was the same ratio in all my A&P and Microbio classes.
  20. No idea, unfortunately I was stuck in one of the groups were the I dont think the person was actually a graduate/former student of the school. It was still good to hear people with experience from the school though, makes me less nervous investing so much time and money in a place you really don't know much about. What we should have asked was were the clinical's take place... Anyway anyone else evenings?
  21. Hey Osuro did you stay after to talk to him about the school? I would have stayed but I didn't expect the class to run all the way till 1 and I had someone waiting for me. A few of the people in the class were actually 2nd year students . No one bad anything bad to say about the school so that's a relief.
  22. No problem! BLS completed, no scrubs though =[ nice meeting all of you though. Looking forward to 2years of hard work.
  23. I wonder what the Male to Female ratio will be for the school....I know Nursing programs are usually dominated by females. Anyway to answer you're question about the essay I think what they mean is that since the school no longer does a formal interview with the prospective student they base it all on your test scores and you're essay I sort of don't agree with that but that just means you need to have a very well written essay that best describes you and you're future plans in the Nursing field. See everyone tomorrow!
  24. I believe around 20,000.00 for the entire program
