UT Houston Summer 2010 Accelerated Program
caj134 - Nope, there is no recommended brand for the blood pressure kit. I hope you and everyone else will get your packets soon. The letter of intent and registration fee is due April 5th, so they didn't give us a lot of time to respond back to them.

UT Houston Summer 2010 Accelerated Program
Looking at the list, here are supplies needed: white lab jacket, navy scrubs, white shoes, white socks, UT name pin (at least 1), school patch (at least 2), stethoscope, penlight, watch with a second hand,non-programmable calculator, and blood pressure cuff kit (which is optional). All these things are apparently available at the SON bookstore for convenience (they have the prices on the sheet I'm looking at and most are reasonable althought im sure you can buy some items for a cheaper price somewhere else). But again, if you don't want to go to different stores trying to buy everything, the bookstore should have all these available. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask :)

Nutrition and pathophysiology missing in curriculum
I actually just got accepted into nursing school but prior to that I got my bachelors in Nutrition. I was lucky enough to have a Nutrition Patho class that was required so I kind of have a bit of background where both subjects are concerned. Still, if I wasnt required to take them, I probably might've taken one or the other - mainly because I feel like both subjects are integral as a health care professional (not just a nurse). Its nice to be knowledgeable in subjects that pertain to health, and may help you understand why a dietitian is giving this patient this food/supplement, etc.

2.35 GPA too low for Acc Bacc BSN Program?
It really depends on the program you're applying to. Most schools want at least a 3.0 overall, but thats not the only thing they take into consideration. They look at your nursing pre-req GPA, your science GPA, your NET exam (or HESI A2), as well as your overall experience in the workforce or in volunteering. So long as you keep taking your nursing pre-reqs and making good grades, especially in the science classes, it should boost up your overall GPA. And you've already got tremendous experience and background with work and volunteer, so I'm sure you'll do fine. Keep your head up and good luck!

Which math class would be best for RN program
I remember college algebra not being too bad and I took it online so I basically had to teach myself and i did fairly well. But what everyone has said is right, you might want to take a remedial class or if you wanna go ahead and take college math class, get some tutoring if you really don't understand - Im sure there are many that would like to help. Also, the NET exam is basic math so it would be good to refresh your memory with basic math skills you've learned throughout your schooling.

Nursing Program opinions
I applied to UT-Houston because my sister, cousin, and many friends graduated from there and they say the program was great and the professors were really nice. Lonestar, i've heard, is great also (had a couple graduate from there also). Those two were the ones that had the best ratings (according to former students) but TWU was up there as well, although some people said it was pretty hard (but then again, nursing school IS hard) so you gotta take all that with a grain of salt. Good luck applying!

UT Houston Summer 2010 Accelerated Program
ladykee, thank you, that'd be so great! I still dont think it's hit me yet, but im super happy nonetheless. only thing left to do is get all my immunizations taken care of, which im a little worried about since all my shot records from when i was younger were lost. So I basically had to start over. Hope you guys aren't having any trouble with the rest of the requirements needed!
