  1. You lost me. You are getting an Associates just to get an Associates? If you wanted to be a CNA.. why didn't you just get an Associate Degree and become an RN.. you would have gotten much further doing that which makes more sense.
  2. I live in Wisconsin.. Someone on here said they work for a Hospital as a CNA right out of school making 14.OO an hour.. It all depends what state you live in.
  3. "Being Honest With Yourself .. And True To Who You Are Is The Best Thing You Can Do For Yourself And.. The Patients".. I tried .. I went to school passed with flying colors.. to be a CNA. Prior to that.. when I had clinicals.. in the Nursing Home.. I despised it! It was not me at all.. Hated it.. I had no help.. my back and legs hurt and I dreaded it all! I decided.. after that traumatic.. experience.. I am not suited to do this. It was the best decision I ever made.. for both me and the patients. I frown on people on here saying they are only doing it to pay bills. My best friend is a RN and she said to me "You Can't Do My Job Just For The Money".. it will be apparent.I now.. understand what she means and agree. There is so.. much more to this.. then just conversation. Its not just about being pleasant.. or just helping hand the patient a tissue. You have to not mind body fluids.. in all aspects.. and deal with them everyday. The body can be gross.. to be honest.. "My Nursing Instructors Words" You have to be okay with that.. Unless you plan to get a BSN.. and do the administrative end of this career. If you want to dress nice.. look nice.. smell nice.. and have a nice environment that is happy and peppy.. This career is not for you! Also.. there are other evening jobs that you can get comparable.. Pay to CNA.. and still make ends meet. I use to have the mentality.. this was the only job out there that pays my bills.. but.. that is not fair to the patient if your heart is not into it. So.. I decided to pursue what is me.. and not what is someone else... Or.. for the money.
  4. Will most Hospitals hire new CNA Grads?
  5. i live in wi.. also.. how much do you make as a cna? also can you do private work with the license in someones home as advertised in the news paper? please email me.. i would also like to ask you about lpn [email protected].. thanks. leah
  6. Hi Kbites.. I am Leah . I live in Central WI. Please email me. I am not sure how old this post was.. I am new here.. I would like to know what hopsital you work for in WI.. and if they are always looking for CNAs. I wanted to also ask you some question in email.. My yahoo email address is [email protected]. I will explain more then. Thank You So.. Much.:)
  7. Hi.. Please email me.. I need to know some things. I would much rather work in a doctors office then a hospital or home care. What is the difference between a RMA and a CMA? Any difference in pay etc ? Also.. what made you decide to do this instead of LPN OR RN first? Also.. do you prefer doctors offices? I read some blogs that CMAs are getting paid a few or so dollars less in drs. Offices. Also.. what do/did you start hourly with.. I know.. its a year program.. but to get out and have to re pay the loan and make 12-13.00 is low isnt it? Do you have to do insurance? I am not interested in that area. The doctors office here.. has a lower level where they send patients to get blood taken the CMAs don't do that in Dean Health Care.. In WI. They do basic care.. and so on. But.. The nurses in the doctors office are not half as stressed out as my bff that is a RN who works in a hospital. Also.. are these jobs in doctors offices hard to find? Because someone above said something about some hospitals will accept CMAs or RDAs? Last Question: How can you attend school for RN which is full time days.. while working full time days at a doctors office to support ones self? I am so.. interested in what you have to say. Please email me back [email protected]. Thank You... HUGS Leah... P>S> ... Glad to hear you love it.. all the nurses I spoke to in doctors office love it .. that I talked to also.
  8. Thank You So.. Much. My Certificate has an issue date of April 2008. I was suppose to take the state exam no more then up to one year of issue. The state I live in requires the Certificate.. not the state exam.. but the confusion is .. within issue license date of that year>? Or anytime thereafter? To the state.. it expired and I would have to re take the whole course over. But the schools dont require the exam so.. does that mean the issue date does not matter to them? Hopefully...lol Did you work and go for CNA first? I am not sure what I am going to do for work for that one year. I don't want anything stressful.. so that I can concentrate on the program. I did not have .. high school algebra.. chemistry or bio. Does this matter prior to LPN entrance/exam? I don't want to get let down. Is there Algebra and Chemistry and Bio in the lpn? How was the antatomy? How did you get through it.. my strong points arent' math and science.. I need all the extra help I can get. Thanks.. Leah
  9. Hi, Thanks For Sharing .. your experience. Yeah.. the CNA Certificate messed me up. I don't need the actual.. license to get into a program.. I need the Certificate. And its two years old. Not sure if this mattters .. or not. Uggh. I live in WI. I know.. from reading all the posts.. each state is way.. differen't when it comes to LPNS.. NJ where I grew up for example.. my bff is a RN and she says they won't hire LPNs ..only in nursing homes. They are in NJ trying to mandate a BSN. I live in WI.. and we are behind sorrta old fashioned in the times/thinking. Lpns are still Very... hireable in all areas.. jobs are broad here.. and plentiful. I looked on line.. and there are many from.. drs.. offices.. long term.. and I even phoned some hospitals whom hire them.. and pay for you to get your RN. SO.. I am happy I live here. But.. I wasn't sure about the MA vs. LPN.. can I ask you why you chose LPN over MA? I was reading some.. hospitals hire MAs and train them to be PCA's which is not here. They hire LPNS first. But that is because we are not that advanced. But.. that makes me happy.. because I do not want or desire a RN. Home Care.. Can I ask you how LPN is in home care? I wanted to do homecare or hospice.. because my father upon passing had the most wonderful nurse who came out at wee hours of the morning. She was a wonderful nurse. I am not fond of hospitals but the learning is there. I use to have a friend whose brother was handicapped through an accident. He has a nurse that stayed with him all day.. helped him eat etc. Then went home at supper time.. another came and stayed over with him. They even went with him to the park and stores. I respect home care so.. much. Thanks For all your help and advise.
  10. I Have A Few Q's. Hope You Can Help. I am in my mid forties..self supporting. I was going to go for my LPN.. in order to work. I had taken my CNA two yrs.. ago.. but the Certificate has expired.. and I do not....want to repeat that course. It was useful...however.. I did not take my licesnsing exam. I live in WI. I know they require that you attended for CNA .. not the licensing..But.. I am uncertain and can 't get an answer... to whether or not.. they accept a Certificate past the exam date or not. Since the licensing isn't required. Also.. I don't have the money to re take this CNA course.. when I was fresh out of school a few yrs ago.. the only places that wanted to hire CNAs were nursing homes.. and I wanted hospital work. I would like to also become a Cardiac Nurse one day. My question is: Is there a training program for Med Tech.. and how long is it? How is it differen't then Medical Assistant.. and is the pay differen't between the two? I love.. the fact that the exposure is there.. unlike CNA.. they are more basice care. I would rather invest in that .. if I have to . It would be nice to be trained as a PCT without a CNA. But.. today.. I highly doubt that will happen. Thanks
  11. Do you think... it matters if I attended CNA school 2 years ago? Do they just want to know that you went?
  12. I think in WI.. the CNA certificate not the license is required for admission. I am not sure if that is for both lpn and Rn or not. However my question is mine is 2 years old. I don't know if that is not good anymore? Also... how do/did you like LPN school? I don't want to go for RN. I need to work and the one year program will allow me to get in and out and work. Let me know if your working as an LPN where and if you like it. Thanks
  13. Hi, I am in WI.. want to go for my lpn. I took the CNA course that took a few months.. 2 years ago. I just found out that I can't sit for the licensing now.. I don't want to re take the course over. Can you please tell me if MATC or Herzing will accept the Certification.. even though its two years old? I mean do they just want to see you attended the program at some point in time>? I hope.. lol Leah
  14. I need some advise. I am in a financial delema. I need to work as most do. I would like to go to LPN school full time.. may need to take 2-3 pre reqs. that I unfortunately did not have in high school. It is a diploma. LPN is all I desire. I would like nothing more then to work in Home Care. I have some questions. I have a CNA Certificate.. "However" I never took the licensing for this.. because .. I heard horror storied. all my classmates failed the first time to boot. It costs 110.00. Its been a few years now.. I fogot what I learned... and would like some information on a study guide or CD.. for CNA.. if there is one. Secondly.. I am not a hospital fan by far.. yet that is where there jobs for CNA are.. I thought about HHA... but they pay lower.. and you have to travel to others home.. and on home health care pay.. that would make little sense. CNAs in hospitals get paid pretty well. Is the CNA hosptial job hard? Also .. I would get good exposure.. for when I work in home care.. working in a hospital which I can do on 3rds shift.. while in LPN School. Does anyone know the pay range hospitals hire for and do you think this is my best bet... provided... I can get my hands on a study guide? I suppose .. I am thinking ...I won't pass or the job itself may be too hard. One last question... are hospitals still helping nursing students out some/still with encouraging them to go for nursing and re imbursing? I know in NJ they still do this.. and when I called a hosptial in WI.. I was told if you work full time they will do so. However.. that would be next to impossible while going for LPN. Will they train me or put me into a training program in the hospital? Thanks... Leah
  15. I am taking LPN .. that is all I want to do.. home care hopice. My 12 month diploma program for LPn.. do I need to know.. algebra at all? My friend went 15 years ago.. and I thought.. she said.. she had basic math.. and did not have chemistry or algebra. I know.. RNS need to take this for their associates and BSNS.. can someone let me know .. I live in WI. Thanks
