  1. Hi there, I will complete my first year as an RN in June and I want to travel to New York right after. But I have no idea what I'm doing. I have only traveled outside of California once and have a ton of questions!! I would really appreciate any advice! Below are some of my questions but any and all information will be very much appreciated! Thanks so much for your time and information. What are some good travel RN companies to contract with? I know there are no ratios in New York, here in california it is 4-6 patients per nurse...about how many patients can I expect as a med surg/ tele nurse? What are the pay rates in NY? Do I accept the free housing or the housing stipend? Which hospitals are the best to work as a traveler with? Thanks again I really appreciate it!
  2. I agree dont give up...it took me a year to find a job after graduating. I was fortunate enough to work as a CNA while looking but it was also very frustrating going to work everyday as an aid with a BSN (especially when new grads were hired on my unit and I wasn't!!! There were days I would cry all through my break at work) ...but I did it and kept looking and found a job. You just have to hang in there and think positively....you get back what you put out and if you project a losing attitude (which I did for a few months too) then what you get back is a losing result. I am from california and and I know this is going to sound pretty hippy and californian but my mom gave me the book The Secret and told me to make a poster with all the things that I wanted in a job, she told me to light candles every night and take time to think positively about finding a job. Less than a month after making my poster and reading excerpts from the secret every night I had my first interview and got the job. I know it sounds crazy but I think there is something to be said of positive thinking...so try it...it cant hurt right?? Good luck and you will find a job....but only if you believe you will! I have the same questions as the original poster plus I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on Travel Nursing Companies to travel through. I was also wondering if there are any good websites that explain how travel nursing works. I'm new to all of this but I really want to travel to NYC this coming summer. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Ashley
  4. Thanks everyone for the awesome responses! I just applied to a bunch of their positions and am crossing my fingers that I hear back soon. Thanks for your time everyone!
  5. Thanks for the responses I guess what was worrying me was that there are a lot of positions open a lot of which are open to new graduates. With the hiring of new grads being so scarce I guess I am just a little weary when I come across a hospital with an abundance of openings willing to hire new grads.
  6. Hi, I am a new graduate RN and like all others I am searching for a New grad RN position. I came across Mercy Medical Center in Merced Ca which has a few positions open and available to new grads. I was wondering if anyone has information on the hospital in general and if it is a good place for nurses...if you have any other info regarding salary or relocation reimbursement that info would be great too. Any information at all would be very much appreciated. Thanks for your help! Ashley RN
