Hello, I haven't logged in on allnurses in a while but when I read your post I just had to chime in. I'm a brand new RN and I graduated in May 2013 with my associates from Tarrant County College in Fort Worth. I just wanted to say that I was able to find a job and was hired at one of Fort Worth's Magnet Hospital, I graduated with a class of 120 and I know at least 30 something students that were able to get hired at acute care hospitals, some didn't have any previous healthcare experience. These are only the few that I personally know from my graduating class. I don't disagree that the market in Fort Worth and surrounding metro areas is saturated with new nurses and the competition is fierce but if you are diligent, and you do your homework and you go into an interview prepared to shine, you will get hired! Having a BSN is in important but I personally know and can tell you that one hospital in South Fort Worth hired 12 new grads and 9 of them are graduates from an Associate's program. Anyway, hope this posts gives you some hope and all others that are searching and will begin searching for new RN jobs in the near future. :)

The schedules that are posted usually have a legend with clinical sites on it and it is posted on the nursing self registration tab in TCCD website nursing section. They haven't updated with the fall 2012 semester and I'm not sure if they include foundations but keep an eye out of it. This should help when trading or scheduling your classes for subsequent semester.

Hi, Antichick, I'm from the Fall 2011 thread. I'm going to go the electronic way as far as my books for my mental health and fall semester. I hope I have a good experience with them. I had been using the textbooks but I'm truly sick and tired of lugging around those heavy text books. I figured it would actually be easier to read it too. (you can't necessarily lay in bed in a supine position with a text book that weighs 30 lbs). It sounds like you have had a good experience with them. Thank you for the advise. Did you purchase them through the book store or did you just go directly into the elsevier website? I also wanted to ask you about your PEDI/OB semester. I don't know why, but everyone is freaking out over pedi/ob. I don't know how much truth there is to that since I heard everyone before freaking out over the adult semester and it really wasn't that bad. Anyway, any thoughts, tips, advice? Congratulations on finishing your last semester and here is hoping everything continues to be smooth for your complex semester. Good luck! Thank you for your help in advance.

Hey everyone, I'm selling the Fundamentals Kozier and Erb's text book and a supplemental Fundamentals Success book (this was recommended as a study aid when I began my foundations semester) it has tons of Nclex questions. I will sell both books for 80.00 dollars. The bundle from Majors that the school offers does not include the Fundamentals text book. This is a great deal. If anyone is interested, please message me. Caitlyn is indeed brave. Her assertiveness will help her go along way as a future nurse. They will teach you all about being assertive in Foundations, this will help you out tremendously both in clinical and in your future careers. The doctors can be a little intimidating at clinical and some nurses love when you put yourself out there and show interest and dedication to learning. As far as letters go, I really have a feeling it will happen this week. Most everyone should be done with finals and the selections have been made, they are probably just putting final touches on the application packets that they will need to send out. Good Luck! and I can't stress enough, ENJOY YOUR BREAK! You guys are the cream of crop, especially if you all have found this place.

Hey everyone. I'm from the Fall 2011 TCC thread. I was just reading how you are all so miserable waiting for letters, I was in your place a year ago along with all the others and I just finished my second semester with one more final left on Monday. Anyway, our group waited until June 1st to find out, and we did not have the pleasure of getting emails for our notices, we had to wait for the envelopes that decided our fate. I know it is frustrating to hear differently but I would suggest not calling the office because when we were waiting we heard more than 10 different answers each day. We were a very persistent group :) Anyway, to give you all some peace of mind, I heard from the grapevine today that selections were made last week. Now, enjoy your break, the email will come and there will always be plenty of time to arrange everything else that is pending in your lives because if you all made sacrifices to get here, you will continue to make sacrifices even if the email comes really late. Tips; I would not recommend buying the skills book either. If you are not buying the bundle, I would suggest you guys to thoroughly investigate when you buy the text book by itself because a lot of them don't include the online component (YOU WILL USE THOSE THROUGH OUT THE PROGRAM) A lot of the books in the bundle also comes with the electronic version so if you all have iPads, I have seen many students using them in class and not carrying the 40 pounder book with them. Rolling bags? Don't purchase them, I had one for the first semester and I only used it during the first semester, so unless you have a terrible back, I would not suggest buying one. Become part of TNSA, it is a great organization and this will help you out considerable throughout school and post school. It looks great on your resume. Anyway, If you all have any other questions, don't hesitate to ask. Nursing school is fun, fun, hard, extremely time consuming but very rewarding. Oh, and don't freak out when you take your first test in foundation and you don't walk out with an A plus. :)

Hey guys, it seems frustrating but that is exactly how they had it done last application period. Don't freak out if some of you actually gets the petition before others. Last year, they waited until all the drug tests results were in and then they entered the petition individually, I recall some where able to register before others. but it was only a difference of hours.

I was at Plaza. I chose to stay there as a second choice if I didn't get HEB but I'm content with them. Plaza was great. I thought the clinical instructor was Mrs. B. It seems as if the final is mostly application. So, if you remember the content somewhat, you may be able to answer it fine. Nonetheless, I think I had a slight panic attack last night. Right now I'm still reviewing the chapters in unit 4.

I'm at Plaza M & W from 630 till 1230 and lecture right after on the same days. Anyone?

Hello, Picking patients is usually done the day before. It doesn't matter what time you go, however, I would suggest not going too early in the AM because your patient might be discharged. (I think there might be one hospital out of the bunch that does not allow this to happen the night before, but I don't know which one) Get to know the charge nurses on the floor you all will be going to and always ask what patients they recommend and find out which ones are possibly getting discharged the next day. In my clinical group, almost everyone had a patient at one point that got discharged. My clinical instructor told us to work the care plan up until the point you could and turn in what we had. Enjoy your holiday and the last month and half before school! Trust me, you will miss this break. Hope you all had fun (or not) at orientation yesterday. I was beyond excited when I went to mine but it was a long day. However, your first semester will FLY!

Don't get too comfy without the chaos. After your semester, they have us register with all the gazillioooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnn people again, and it is tough getting those classes. Especially since clinical spaces only have 10 spots per section. Nursing school is tough people. This just adds to the stress. We had registration for classes and a 25 plus chapter test today. Don't mean to scare you guys. Put in the extra effort and you guys will do great. But when I say effort, be ready to put in ten times more than you did for your pre-rqs.

You still graduate in the fall if you finish in the fall, you just don't walk until the spring with the rest of the school. They do have a special pinning ceremony/graduation for the nursing students and that takes place both in the fall and the spring. This is separate from the whole college. Once you graduate, you can go on to taking your boards and become an RN before actually walking with the class.

For us, the schedules were posted 2 weeks after we turned in our acceptance letter. Don't worry about not registering with everyone else on the 15th. They will open registration just for you guys if it happens to be later. They do have new administration since alot of the others have retired and it seems that they already started doing things differently.

Hello Ladies and Gents, I'm from the fall thread, I believe I have posted on here before. Congratulations on the acceptance. You are in for a very fun, but overwhelming, stressful time. Enjoy your break, trust me, you will miss it. The only thing I recommend you guys doing during your break is looking over dimensional analysis. You will use it for all your med calculations at TCC. It is easy if your practice but a simple mistake and rushing through your test will get you kicked out of the program. I'm a witness to this, so take my word. Don't rush and double check all your answers. The semester has been fun, Dreamer is actually my classmates, you will make wonderful friends while in the program. She is awesome and all the information she has given you guys is wonderful. It is nice to know what is ahead, for the first few weeks, you will feel like it is manageable but there is so much unanswered questions. Don't hesitate to ask questions from your upperclassman. Everyone is always willing to help. There is my spill. To answer your question about shoes. Crocs are not allowed, backless shoes are not allowed. They have to be white and you have to have socks that go above just your ankle. Lab coat is optional to a certain extent. Some professors require it, others do not. Just consider that you will have different professors throughout the program. So, you might as well buy one. Anyway, enjoy this happy feeling. Congrats to all. Enjoy your break because once January 17 rolls around, you will hit the ground running.

Hello everyone, I was in your shoes last application period. I'm in my fifth week of nursing school. It is amazing, challenging, stressful, overwhelming, fun, and a whole bunch of other words balled up into one. I just passed the dosage calculation test today so I'm on cloud nine. Days like this definitely offsets all the lost sleep, extreme anxiety, and everything else that we feel along with it. It makes it all worth it. Anyway, I came here to tell you all not to stress out too much. I know it is easier said than done but it seems that you all have great scores and GPA's and everyone has an even chance of getting in. Out of our group last application period, I believe we only had one person not get accepted. To answer your question about the ones' who are readmitted who don't pass their first semester, everyone one is ranked together. Those who fail don't automatically get a spot, they still have to be readmitted into the next class. So, don't freak out, don't listen to rumors, try to stay positive. As one of my teachers says,"What you say, is what you hear and what you hear is what your mind does" So, think positive all the time. You will all get in. Good Luck!

You will likely not sleep tonight. My first day will be my clinical day from 1-7pm so I won't have to worry about my alarm not going off. :)
