I prefer the night shift, the key to working nights is keeping your room night dark, foil windows or whatever you need to do to sleep well. i feel that the day shift is usually less flexible than night shift, the nurses on days usually are more experienced and are a bit more set in their ways (not all, but many more than on nights.) i work in the ER, so nights mean busting your behind the first half of your shift, and catching up the second half, you usually have time to catch up on charting etc. but your also expected to do more stocking etc in the smaller hospitals. many hospitals dont provide cafeteria during nights so your on your own for food, but the shift diff makes up for it fast. come to the dark side! you will love it, or go crazy.....

talked to 1, were waiting to see if they have the resources available to help, the local rep is gung ho, but waiting on his boss and i sent e-mails to 2 others.

i almost always tell other health care professionals that im a ER nurse, mostly because it changes the language that they talk to you in. i usually dont have to ask about specific labs, because they already told me. i know i like it when family tells me they are a nurse, i can change how i talk a little bit, and know that more things will be absorbed by the patient in case they have a question they are afraid to ask me. i also like to think that if there is a nurse in the family, they are smarter than the average non nurse family i will say i am annoyed when i find out the "nurse" is a CNA, and they got their certification last month....

Well, to be fair. They usually require 200 nurses or more. Were at 50. And we were told that it wouldt be till next year before they would be able to help us next year. And many nurses unions are state specific. Kansas does not have one. The KNA is like the ANA, and the NNOC seems to have all the national groups. Google is letting me down.... I would prefer a nurse union, but a professional union is better than nothing

a small critical access hospital is in need of union rep, but the NNOC is too busy for us, not going to begrudge them, but who else is out there that is willing to help us? any info is appreciated!

go to heartland hospital in st. joseph Mo for oncology nursing, they have a very good unit there and great docs as well. its a 45 min drive though, depends on your needs. hiawatha hospital is very small, but very nice to work at so i hear.
