  1. Hi everyone, I hope you guys can help me with something. I am a second semester LPN student getting ready to start IV Therapy. I am very excited about this but also incredibly intimidated by it as well. I thought it would be great to get as much knowledge as I can before I go into my clinical. I know nothing can prepare you for the hands on experience but if I can get as much information as possible I will be prepared to answer all my instructors questions and will have a better understanding of how it all comes together. So if all you experienced LPN's can give me some information on what to be prepared for it would be great, common meds, terminology, equipment used, maybe even a story or two about your first time with IV therapy. Thanks for all your help:nurse:
  2. Thanks for the reply. I actually broke the first rule of pt. care, I did not lower the bed to the lowest position. The pt asked the it be left where it was and I did as she asked. Of course that is a big no no and I do understand that, I was just trying to be a good student nurse and make the pt happy. Needless to say I did learn from that lesson. My husband told me to look at the pt's as if they were my children and just because they want something it does not mean it would be good for them. I will be working on the tougher skin thing, if I don't I will never survive this year. Again thanks
  3. Help!! THis is my first semester in LPN school and I have been doing ok but lately I seem to be losing confidence in myself. I tend to really beat myself up over mistakes because I know how important it is to be safe for our patients. Today in clinicals a patient asked me to leave her bed up so I did and I got in trouble because of course that is a safety hazard. I just feel like I am going to be a horrible nurse even though I want it so bad. Anyone else ever feel like thist? How do you get out of this slump? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
  4. Hi, I actually start my program this fall. I will continue working in home care though. I enjoy that right now and it is great because I can work it around my schedule. I have two small kids, a husband that works nights (4 nights on 4 nights off) and of course school and work. I am hoping that doing home care will also be considered good experience.
  5. WOW I am so glad I found this thread. I am starting my LPN courses this fall and whenever I tell anyone I will be doing the LPN program I get the same response "you know they are phasing that out" and "why don't you want to be a real nurse". I stopped telling anyone at school what I am doing because I am tired of defending my personal decision. There is nothing wrong with being an LPN or working at McD's as long as you enjoy what you are doing and do it well. Thanks everyone for your posts and wish my luck when I start this fall.
