New ICU traveler - Need advice!
hey, thanks for the info... I'm not eligible to send private messages yet... So when you say $33, I"m assuming that's with the $6/hr factored in? My offer was for a small town, outside of dallas for $22.60 + $6 = $28.60/hr with $950 for housing.... So being smaller than Houston, sounds pretty comparable...

New ICU traveler - Need advice!
I am a first time traveler, have worked in ICU for just shy of the 2 year mark. I have been working primarily with two agencies (Nurses RX and Cross Country) and just added a third (Aureus Medical) because my CA license fell through and I became a little nervous. I have a compact license, so now I am focusing on those states. My questions are: when people are talking about wages on these forums are they quoting the companies "blended wage" with the $35/day or $245/week meals & incidentals factored in? Or are they quoting their base pay - taxable wage? I have had one offer in a town 3 hours out of Dallas... but the hourly wage seemed a little low; especially since everyone I had talked to said I would make more being ICU. I am looking to for an April 2nd start date, so I don't know if I should wait a bit longer and see what else comes along? or feel lucky that I got an offer and just take it? I realize, being a first time traveler and not quite at that 2 year mark (will obviously lower my wage), but I am coming from a 500-bed level II trauma center hospital, working in a 40-bed combined ICU (meaning neuro, cardio, med/surg) So, any and all advice applicable to this post would be greatly appreciated (travel companies listed/Texas pay rates/general advice for a first time traveler) Thanks!

Frustration & No RN Job Opportunities
hey, just wondering where you are working in NC? I am from MN, have applied to multiple out-of-state hospitals, since MN will not even look at you if you are new grad, but haven't had much luck. Any info would be great. Thanks!

New grads starting at Washington Hospital Center
hey im just wondering what the starting wage at WHC is for new grad nurses? I had read $24/hour somewhere.... It seems kind of low, considering housing is so expensive. If anybody feels comfortable sharing their starting wage (or a range) with me I would appreciate it. Thanks, and congrats to all who recently got jobs;)

Abbott Northwestern
Hey, I did my senior synthesis in the Cardiac ICU at Abbott, it was a great hospital to work in and I was also hoping to possibly get a job there after doing my synthesis there (I graduated in December) but they are only hiring internal new grads..... I recently talked to my preceptor there, and she said the union was trying to force abbott to open new positions (because they are short staffed) but their reluctant. She said she hopes something will open up this spring. My advice to you, is if possible, while still in school apply for a dietary or aid position, so that when you graduate you could apply internally;) Good luck with your last semester, I passed boards last month and have been on the job hunt ever since.... the metro area is brutal for new grads:uhoh3:, I'm interviewing at Mayo clinic Florida next week, so we'll see how that goes:rolleyes:
