I am soooo Stressed at my Job I want to quit!!!!!
Sounds like you want to be a Nurse. You want to spend time with your patients. The floor is not an area you are feeling that you are getting what you want. try hospice nursing, or unit nursing. something with a 1:1 patient nurse ratio or at least 3:1. Consider a transfer at the hospital that your at. jesse

Desparate need of help regarding my OR paper
If you have time and access you can get the specifics of the closure from the dictation of the procedure in the patients chart. If not, you can not go wrong with saying that the wound was closed using 3.0 vicryl, then with a 4.0 monocryl approxmating the skin edges. The surgical incision was then dressed in a sterile fashion with telfa, and op-site. This is a standard closure and dressing for this procedure and should not be questioned. Your experience paper is not to concentrate on the details of the closure, but on the experience of the sterile technique and the roles of the participates in the Operating room suite. If you did not need to or want to create a version of the closure. you could simply say that the closure was performed intraoperatively prior to extubation, in a sterile fashion and that the patient left the OR with the dressing intake for transport to the PACU. jesse

First 2 months at work - need some advice (stress is piling)
You are exactly where you should be. If you dont think so, ask for more time. Try to find some time to ask your preceptor some specific questions about the times during your shift when you felt unsure about the decision you made. Ask her what she would have done. With time and experience you will learn how to prioritize better. We have all been there. right now its like your putting a jig saw puzzle together. You have all the pieces, you have seperated the edge pieces and looked at the picture on the box. you have the corners and edges in place. Now you are seperating the different colors of the pieces ,eg. the green ones for the grass, and the blue ones for the sky, etc. Before long you will start to recognize how it all fits together. I promise. You will never stop learning. You'll find what works for you in relation to how your thought processes are wired. You will see there is some truth in the phrase "Thinking Like A Nurse". At this point. Keep The basics in mind. ABC's. Be careful with the documentation and giving the right meds, right dose, right route, etc for your meds. Utilize your unit secretary for some things related to making calls, etc. Look at your progress...not your short comings . You have grown, you will continue to grow.It will not always be like this. jesse

I need advice with a personal issue...
Prayer does work. No matter who or what you higher power may be. Put your keys under your bed before you go to sleep. then when you get up you can hit your knees first thing. I promise it will help. Just try it for a month. Get a calendar and fill in all your hours ,specifically write down what you are suppose to be doing every hour. See if anything can be elimiated. If not...then just plan, plan, plan . Allow a specific amount of time for task that you must get done. Do not spend too much time on just one. Thoughtfully consider what your priorities are are keep them in mind. First things first. Seriously Commit to giving yourself a half hour everyday to "meditate" or whatever works for you. just go somewhere be quite and still and breath deeply. If you are not self aware and caring for yourself you wont be fit to help anyone else. Trust that most things work themselves out if we let go and allow our higher power to manage our lives without a lot of input from ourselves. Your peace of mind is directly related to your expectations of yourself and others. When you let these expectations go ....you will be happier and more content. Being motivated and willing to work at accomplishing your aspirations is the first and sometimes the hardest decision to make. You will be glad you did all the sacrificing when you are done. There are many programs right now with our new President for help in going to school. Many grants ,scholarships and even programs to help with your family that needs health care. If you want help, ask for it it is available. The answers are available. Get oneline find the applications. Calla local school of nursing and get into the RN program. Forget the CNA class if you want to be a RN. Get the loans, the help with childcare, the family home health issues, etc. Many have done this without family support. Your family of nurses will be here to encourage you. Jesse [email protected] Cary,NC
