Quit great job to stay home with baby?
I'm sorry that must be so hard going to a job you hate. I was in Med-surg a couple years ago as well and it was difficult to go to work every shift and I had anxiety on my days off thinking about going back. So all things considered, I do not want be "desperate" enough to go back to med surg but postpartum is hard to come by with no unit specific experience. I hope you figure out what is best for you, congrats on your little one :)

Quit great job to stay home with baby?
Well the problem is the uniqueness of my job. Each full time nurse has a caseload of 25 clients and they are all her own individual clients so PRN isn't an option either. A part time nurse would have to be a job share where 2 nurses split one full time position.

Quit great job to stay home with baby?
Yes I have FMLA so I'd be covered for 12 weeks. 6 of it will be paid and I could afford to be off maybe 3 months or so after the 2nd 6 weeks. I have been keeping an eye out for positions and I have been working on getting my IBCLC.

Quit great job to stay home with baby?
Thanks everyone! I definitely don't want to sacrifice my family for my job. If I could afford to stay home full time it wouldn't even be an issue. I just don't want to sacrifice a full time job I love for a part time job that I might hate. Or risk being out of a job for too long and not be able to pay the bills.

Quit great job to stay home with baby?
So I have been working at a job that I absolutely love. I do home visits for low income, first time moms. Lots of education and tons of time with each mom and baby (2 1/2 years). I've always wanted to work in maternal health so it is a great fit for me. However, I am pregnant with my first child and I've always wanted to go part time or prn after I started a family. The problem is I spoke with my manager and my company does not allow part time work. So I'd have to go back full time 40 hours or not at all. I was just wondering what you lovely ladies thought. My baby will only be a baby for so long and I want to focus him/her. I also don't want my work to suffer if I'm working full time while trying to focus on my child. I've thought about getting another job, maybe in postpartum or lactation but it's so hard thinking of giving up this great job and I worry it might be difficult to find a job in these areas. But on the other hand I just can't get my head around the idea of working full time while someone else takes care of my baby. Thanks in advance for your thoughts :)

I HATE bedside nursing
Bedside nursing is not for everyone. Don't let anyone tell you just because you're not a bedside nurse that you're not a real nurse. What other areas are you interested in? I would apply for something else now. I worked bedside for two years and I hated it. I love my new job in public health. My only regret is not starting this job sooner.

Hi, I was just wondering how your interview went? I will be interviewing with them soon as well. Any advice? Thanks :)- interviewing for nurse family partnership
Hi, sorry no one replied to your question! How did your interview go? I have a panel interview with them soon also. Any advice? Thanks :)- How to "demonstrate results" in resume
So I've been trying to edit my resume so that it might catch more interviews but I'm having some trouble. I want to demonstrate results in the details of past employment instead of stating the obvious of what I did at each job. The problem is I have no idea how to do this. I don't have a lot of work experience and I am so new in the career I feel I haven't contributed anything unique or significant enough yet. I have worked at a nursing home for 3 months, as a caregiver to a young woman for a year, as a CNA on a tele unit for a year, and now an RN on the tele unit for a little over a year. Any suggestions on how I can make my resume ROAR (Results oriented and relevant)? Thanks so much!- Additional Position?
So I have been working FT on a Tele unit for about a year (it is my first RN job & about 30 mins south of my house). I have began looking for a position in OB a couple months ago but there are very few positions available in OB in my area. I have an interview for a position that is 1 1/2 hours north of where I currently live. There is a PRN and a FT available. My husband thinks I should take the PRN position and stay full time at my current job in case I don't like the new one or hate the commute. We will consider moving (but then my husband will have a long commute) but only if I love my new position and transition to FT. I was also considering taking the FT position and going PRN at my current job but then there's the issue of a long commute/moving. What would you do?- Nurse Family Partnership
Hey Monkeybug, I was wondering if you can answer a couple questions I have about NFP. What is a typical work week like? Does volunteer experience help or do I need OB or public health experience? (I'm a new grad working on a tele unit for 5 months). Any cons to the job? (It sounds pretty amazing to me) Thanks!- RN Panel Interview
Thank you! Yes I have been waiting a long time for this :) Oh my goodness! I'm sorry the interview didn't go how you wanted it. But you never know! I think it shows compassion if you cried during the question why you want to be a nurse. And if the rest of the interview went well you might have still gotten it. And if not, it's always good practice and yes a huge learning experience. Let me know how it went! :)- New Grad Nurse Dilemma. Please help.
Very nice! A hospital in Denver, CO. I heard the same so I am super nervous. But we can do it!!! :)- New Grad Nurse Dilemma. Please help.
Hey hopefull! I am also a new grad starting on tele in a couple weeks. I'm soooo nervous! Where will you be working- RN Panel Interview
Hey NurseMotivated! Sorry it has taken me so long to reply. Have you had your interview yet? Yeah my interview lasted an hour and a half. I was so nervous when I got there but once it started it wasn't too bad at all! They asked me all questions like "Tell me about a time you did this... tell me about a time you did that" Most of my answers were from experiences in nursing school and on this unit. You will do great and good luck! Let me know how it goes. And update: I got the position!!! I'm so excited and NERVOUS! Haha. I start in a couple weeks. It's been a LONG year :)- Isn't there an easier way?
I went to nursing school because I want to be an OB nurse. I want to work in PP for a few years and eventually be a Lactation Consultant and possibly teach birthing classes, etc. However, the job market is TERRIBLE. I have been out of school nearly a year with my BSN and have yet to find an RN position anywhere (Not for lack of persistence). I work on a telemetry unit as a CNA (had a interview there yesterday so hopefully that will work out) I was just thinking today that I want that job in Tele sooo bad but in reality I just want to be a Lactation Consultant. I know I just need to get at least year of experience but a whole year doing something that I don't want to do sounds like pure torture. And who says a year will even be enough? Does anyone have any advice on how to come closer to my dream quicker or at least survive working Tele for a while (if this job even works out)? Thanks =)- RN Panel Interview
Thank you for your advice! It was very helpful. So I had my interview yesterday. It wasn't as bad as I thought, especially since I knew everyone on the panel. It lasted an hour and a half and they asked pretty much all behavioral questions. We find out next week who got the positions! Hopefully it works out- RN Panel Interview
I have been working on the telemetry unit as a "nurse extender" (CNA who has already graduated nursing school) for 8 months (I graduated nursing school LAST August with my BSN). I have a 6 panel interview this Thursday with my manager and 5 other nurses that work on the unit with me. There are 2 new grad position openings and there are 3 of us nurse extenders competing for the positions. The other two have both been working here for about 5 months and both graduated in December. The first girl interviewed yesterday and it took an hour and a half Mostly situational questions. The next girl interviews today and mine is tomorrow. I'm so nervous! First: How does a panel interview work? (how do they choose who gets the position) What questions can I ask since I already work on the unit? Are my chances any better since I have been here longer? If I don't get the job will I ever get an RN Position being a year out? Also, one of the other girls only has an ADN. Does that make a difference? Thanks!!!- Air Force Nursing!?!?
Thank you so much! That's very helpful- Air Force Nursing!?!?
Nevermind everyone... I got disqualified for having asthma Stupid asthma. Any other suggestions? I got nothin- questioning postpartum nursing?
I've been out of nursing school since August 2011. I know I'm being picky but I'm holding out for a position in postpartum or at least OB. I know it's exactly what I want to do and I feel pathetic sometimes working as a CNA with a nursing license but I can't bring myself to apply to too many med-surg positions. Am I crazy? Haha. Most of my classmates are having difficulty getting into any area.- Air Force Nursing!?!?
i graduated nursing school in august 2011 with my bsn and have been looking for a civilian job but have been unable to find one. i have recently considered joining the air force as an rn. i was wondering if you could answer some questions i have. 1. how much warning do they give you for deployment? 2. once i'm finished with cot and working in a hospital how flexible are the schedules in advance. like if i planned a vacation ahead of time and booked my flight and paid for my room. would there be a chance to lose all of it? or if i'm in a wedding and i get a notice that i'm being deployed could i delay it so it doesn't interfere? 3. my husband is an emt but he wants to go for his rn. he wanted to enlist in the af but has been told a few times not to until he has his bsn. what suggestions do you have for working his schooling with my joining? 4. does it effect my chances if i'm a new nurse almost a year out of school with no experience? i am applying to ob and my advisor told me that would help. what explanation should i give them if they ask why there is such a long gap? i haven't been able to find a job though actively searching and i am working as a nurse extender now (cna with a fancy name). thanks everyone! - Nurse family partnership
