  1. Please tell me which hospitals in Atlanta is paying your quoted salary.
  2. Thanks, I am still waiting on the recruiter, any way I can get an interview without the recruiter?
  3. Hello bbcwalters Thanks for info, I am still waiting for the nurse recruiter to arrange for me to see the nurse manager. I am looking for a position in the ICU.
  4. Hello kjt2004 I Did not not post that comment, but annonny is correct. I can speak for Broolyn, I live in a middle class neighborhood, where there are only homes, but if we look around Brooklyn in the poor neighborhoods the total population is black, and poor. And I quite frankly don't find New York that segregated, if you can afford to pay your rent, or mortage you can pretty much live where ever you want. There are some cases of racism, but it is practice very discretely, bacause there are laws in the city that protect us from such practices. So cheer up, Everyone is free to voice their feelings.
  5. I live in Brooklyn, in a pretty decent neighborhood, where crime is not a problem, but there is no denying that from the news report that crime in the city is relatively high. If you drive the streets of new york you will see how rude people are. In comparsion to other cities and countries, New york is filthy. And we New Yorkers pay way too much to live in this city. Every New Yorker is aware that some of the nicest and most expensive apts can be found in Manhattan but my RN salary would not allow me to live in a decent 2 bedroom apt in Manhattan. I love New York, but the quality of life here is not healthy. I am single and have no little kids, and refuse to spend all my hard earn money in housing. I have just look at a apt in ATL. in a nice, gated community, with swimming pools, tennis courts, free parking, and many more amenities with a great price that you couldn't find no where in this city? Yes salary is lower, but it is less stress full environment. I am glad you're enjoying this city, it's a fun place to be, I will miss this city, everything you need you can find right here, but it is way to expensive for me.
  6. anyone working at st.joseph or emory? please help me decide which hospital you prefer and why. i am relocating to atlanta next month and interviewed at emory and st.joseph, i am still waiting to meet with a nurse manager at st. joseph to tour the unit i applied for a position. i was surprised at the difference in pay. st joseph offers about five thousand more a year than emory, how is working conditions at both hospitals? i know st joseph has magnet status. also how does piedmont compare? and what is the salary range there for a rn with 5 yrs experience? also any one familar with the complex at archstone briarcliff at 7000 briarcliff gables, i have not sign the lease but i have look at an apt there 2 bedrooms 2 baths controll access for $875/month. complex seems nice. how is traffic in that area to travel back and forth to work at any of the above hospitals? please help me to decide on a hospital to work, and a great location to live close to the above hospitals. :melody: :balloons:
  7. hello from oregon to nyc small town vs a huge city the capital of the world, where the city never sleeps i want to wish you the best of luck jobs are not going to be a problem, plenty of hospitals some less than a mile apart. columbia, mount sinai, nyu, hospital for special surgery, are excellent hospitals, and prefer to hire bsn nurses, most of their clients are wealthy affluent and the elite and will hire a bsn over an adn. mount sinai just acheive magnet status. salary starts in the low to mid 60.000/ yr, excellent benefits, 20 to 23 vacation days, along with sick time and annual time. along with a union. cost of living is outrageous, that sounds like a lot of money, but depending on your life style you can be pretty much living from pay check to pay check. a decent studio apartment can cost you at least a $1000.00/month or more in midtown manhattan. and if a broker find you this apt you will have to pay them whatever the apt cost for a month, along with 1 month rent and 1 month security.($3000.00) second option maybe to opt to live in the surrounding boroughs, in brooklyn, queens, stay away from the bronx, and stay closer to the downtown brooklyn area, expensive, but larger rooms for your money. they are also great hospitals in brooklyn. pays about the same as manhattan, and public transportation is the best in the country. i have live in ny for the last 16 years, a great city, but i also have grown to hate it. people are rude, and not friendly. the streets are filthy the roads in a lot of areas have large pot holes, and crime is rampant, you have to always watch your back, be aware who is getting on the elevator with you, always be on the lookout for the con-artist. i am going to be relocating next month to atlanta. any more queries about this city let me know. its a great city but the cost of living here is not worth it.
  8. I am from out of town and will be moving to Georgia next month, and I have secured a job there since Nov, at a major hopital. I am from NYC and I love Atl. Try calling the hospital that you're interested in working in and set up an interview with a recruiter, they are very good and will try to accomdate you especially if you're out of town. The salary in comparsion to NYC is incredibly low but I will give it a try. If I can't survive on the salary I will defintely continue to live there and do travelling nurse in cities with large salaries like NY, Cali, Hawaii, Housing is cheap but prices for most other things is about the same price as here in NY, and I also find sales taxes there just as high as here in NY 8.65% comparsion to 8% in Buckhead but I absolutely love Buckhead and I would love to own a town house there. I am looking forward to moving there next month. All the best in finding a job.
  9. I will be relocating to Georgia shortly, It took me over 2 months to get my license. I was not aware that I had to apply for verification from my original state of licensure, so I had to apply for that verification, My first verification that was mailed to Georgia state board of Nsg, somehow went astray. I spoke to a very nice lady that told me I can have the mail sent to ATTN. and her name, after a couple days when I spoke to her she searched for the verification and issued me my license right away. Good Luck
  10. I am not sure which state you're in, but here in New york where I live, they are plenty of colleges that offer studens with Bachelors degree an opportunity to pursue a BSN in nursing in an accelerated program. These students if they do not have science courses must take these courses and then they can start their nursing courses. I have seen students complete this program in as little as 2 years. Most states also give this option because of the shortage of nurses. You should go on line and do some research before you start the LPN program.( clinicals ) You can go to this web address for information on their accelerated program. www.downstate.edu click on education, then go to the college of nursing and then click on Accelerated nursing. Good luck in whatever area you choose, also I would like to hear back from you after you look in to accelerated programs in your area. Good Luck:kiss :kiss :kiss
  11. I worked in a facility that doesn't care about the safety of patients. we're dangerously short staff in the ICU wherie I work, and our ratio most of the times is 3:1 and we also admit patients. There were times when we have 4:1, we're a 12 bed unit and even with 3 nurses managenent never block beds. I am so tired of the situation I will be resigning the end of January.:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
