Latoya's Health Education and Training Center
Justicelittle Latoya's is accredited through the state of Michigan just not federally. If it wasn't accredited then Michigan would not allow students who graduated from this school to sit for the NCLEX examination. Also Michigan works would not give them money for students to go there. But yes it is accredited and you get a very good education there.

Latoya's Health Education and Training Center
I graduated Latoya's October 2010 and just recently took and passed my nclex on the first try. I had 85 questions. All in all I had a good experience from Latoya's. It was a bit disorganized but I am forever grateful for them.

Pre nursing vs nursing which one is more difficult?
Noyesno hit the nail right on the head...LOL If you thought that A&P was hard (just an example) wait until you start med/surge. Nursing is defiantly harder and it takes a lot of time and dedication. Many many sleepless nights studying, careplans, homework. Having a grading scale where anything below an 80% is failing. It's a tough job, nursing school. But it is defiantly worth it.

Clinicals ---
I agree with That Guy. Note cards really won't help when you are on the floor. Just don't freak out and remember the things that you learned in theory. Plus you will have a clinical instructor there who will help if you have any questions. Your biggest problem once you are on the floor is getting over the nerves and having the confidence that you can do it. That's what I had to learn the hard way. I have one more day doing Med/Surge then I will be in leadership clinicals. Just have confidence and don't fret. You'll be fine!!!!

Jail/Prison Nursing
Thanks a lot for the info. But I agree 20 bucks isn't a lot for a RN. There's a long term care facility near my house that starts LPNs off at 25. 30. I am really interested in jail nursing so maybe I could do it on weekends or something.

Jail/Prison Nursing
Hi I have four months until I am finished with my LPN course. I was considering going into jail or prison nursing. I was wondering how the pay is and if it's dangerous. I know that it could possibly be but I just need to have a piece of mind. When choosing a place to work are there certain things that I should look for and are there any places that you recommend over the other. Thanks A lot, Candace

Latoya's Health Education and Training Center
Yes it is all the way in Saginaw. SO far I really do like the program. It's split into four semesters. In the first you have A&P and Nursing Fundamentals. The second you have Nutrition, Pharmacology and Med Surge one. In the third you have OB and Peds and Med Surge two. And the last you have Leadership. Anything below a 75 is failing. You go to school year round with a week break in the summer. I mean you have Christmas and Good Friday and holidays like that off. They have a very good pass rate and they have a good pass rate on the nclex. I do no know exact number but you can call the school and get all the information that you want (989)-797-4602.

Latoya's Health Education and Training Center
Yes you do need a high school diploma. Thats all. You take A&P in the program but no micro. You don't need any prereq's to get into the program. I hope this helps.

Anyone applying for LCC's Nursing program this spring?
Thanks a lot. I have a lot of those pre reqs because I am in my LPN portion of my schooling. I was just looking to LCC because I heard that they have a good Nursing program. I will still be looking into going there. I was just hoping that I could get straight into their program.

Latoya's Health Education and Training Center
The PSB test is just a competency test. It had four sections math, reading, biology and nursing competency on it. The tuition for the up coming year is 14,000 dollars. Financial aid doesn't cover this program. NWLB will. I only got 5,000 but that's because my caseworker was not to interested in helping me. You are supposed to get ten thousand dollars. There is no payment plan it all has to be paid for before you start your classes in October because it's a nonprofit school. I hope that this information helps you out.

No Worker Left Behind
I never said I didn't believe you, but I just know what I was able to get. Most of the other students were able to get the full 10,000. Unfortunately I was not.

A med surge question
I just figured it would be something I have to know just in case a patient asks me why this would happen.

A med surge question
Sorry about all the typos guys, I wrote this thread in a hurry in class and I didn't bother to proof read what I had written

A med surge question
Okay last weekend in med surge we were studying hemotalogical disorders. Well we started talking about blood transfusions and I foud out that one of the adverse reactions is a hemolytic reaction. Which is the anitbody-antigen reactionsto a transfusion of ABO incompatible blood. Well a couple of the signs and symptoms are chest pain and back pain. I have asked a couple of nurses why would get pain there and I haven't gotten a straight answer. I came to my own conclusion (which I am sure is wrong) regarding the back pain is that the kidney are working over time to get the extra protien out of the body...It's the only logical things that I can think of. Maybe this is just one of those things where there is really no explainable reason and it just happends. But I am not to sure. So if any of my other fellow nursing students have any insight on this please let me know. Thanks a ton Candace.

I know how much I was supposed to get. But I was only given 5,000.

No Worker Left Behind
Well when I was going through the no worker left behind to get my funding for my LPN program they'd run out of funds. I was promised 10,000 dollars only to recieve 5,000. Because of that I was almost not able to attend classes. But I haven't heard anything else regarding NWLB.

What do your school uniforms look like?

Latoya's Health Education and Training Center
I heard about this school from a couple of nurses at a facility I used to work at as a CNA. They told me it was only 1 LPN year program and the only thing you had to do to get in was have a HS diploma, pass a PSB test and complete and interview with Rosa (very very nice lady). I jumped right on that opportunity and was accepted in May of 2009. I am currently attending Latoya's and I love it as of today I have 8 months until graduation. I am so thankful for this school because if not for it I would still be waiting to get into Mott's program. Okay so the cost was 13,000 for my class but next year it will go up to 14,00 dollars. Which is still alot less then AMC's program and from what I hear Latoya's program is a tad bit better. But you know I am bias. :redbeathe But if you are currently on a waiting list or you want to change your careers I highly recommend that you try Latoya's. I believe testing to get in started on Jan. 20th and it will continue until the end of April. If you have any questions or you want contact information reply here . Candace

American Medical Careers in Flint, MI
I saw someone else mention this but I am currently attending Latoya's besides the horrible unprofessional name it is a good school. I do think that I am getting a stellar education from there and it was only 13,000 dollars for me to attend. It's in Saginaw and it's only a 1 year program from October to October. I think that the class for 2010 the tuition will be 14 grand. The downside to this program is since it's a nonprofit school there are no payments plans and that almost stopped me from attending.

Anyone applying for LCC's Nursing program this spring?
I have a question and I wasn't sure if it was answered all ready. I am going to be completing my LPN training this fall (2010) and I would like to apply to LCC quick track RN program for current LPN's Repiratory Therapist, and Paramedics. I was told that the only thing required of me was to work 1000 hours as an LPN but I am not sure if that's true. So does anyone know what the requirments are to get into that program? And also if you know of any other schools in Michigan that offer an LPN to RN course. Thanks Candace
-
What do your school uniforms look like?
I am in LPN school and we have to wear all white uniforms and a white lab jacket with our school patch on the right arm. Our shoes have to be white. Our hair has to be up in a bun if it's long and only 2 rings per hand and 2 lobe earrings per ear....Very very strict.

LPN to RN in Michigan
Hello, I will be graduating my LPN course in Oct. 2010. I am looking for community colleges or universities that offer and LPN to RN course. I know that Lansing Community College offers a quick track RN course for LPN, Paramedics, and Repirstory Thearpist. But from the looks of the website there are about 12 pre reqs that you have to have before you can even apply . But I was told by other people that the only requirment was that you have to work as 1000 hours as an LPN. So I am not sure. I was also told that Mott Community College offers a LPN to RN program too, but I looked into it and I didn't see anything . So if you know of any programs that doesn't require alot of pre reqs and having your LPN license is enough to apply that would be great. Or just share any information that you have I would greatly appriciate it . Candace
