  1. I agree, it is VERY annoying to be trying to get your work done & the "social" nurse is there talking & yakking & gossiping- I try to totally ignore these types & not engage w/them- it only encourages them to continue!! If someone is working for the "social aspect" they need to get a life!! I am there to earn a living, I enjoy my career, but it is BY NO MEANS my social life thankyouverymuch!!!!!!!
  2. I've been working at a small hospital for a year, as a fulltime RN on a 28 bed med-surg unit. Census has been down lately & I have been asked to take one day/week off- and, since I don't have seniority, I agreed. In the past month they have hired several part time RNs. What's making me feel "pushed out" is the fact that on my day off they are using these part time RNs who DON'T have seniority to work my shift & my unit. In addition, I have also been asked to take additional days off as needed- during those times they have used at least one of these part time nurses. My evaluation was great & I rec'd a raise. I have rec'd no feedback from my nurse manager as to why she's scheduling me this way, other than "census is low" and am now considering talking to the DON. Any advice?
  3. if you REALLY want to know what staff thinks of how things are being run, meet w/us confidentially & one on one! Stop handing out surveys & showing them to your charge nurses-- sometimes THEY are the problem!!
  4. I think as long as texting isn't interfering w/work it's fine. It has certainly cut down on the number of personal phone calls & you can answer a text at your convenience. Since our managers text too, they have not mandated that texting stop! (Plus many of us use our cellphone calculators which can appear to be texting too).
