Looking for Resources to study for CHPN Certification.
Hello! I am an RN and I want to get my CHPN - Certified Hospice and Palliative Nurse - Certification. However, I am not employed at the moment because I have 3 very young children at home, so I am studying for it on my own without an employer to request information from. Does anyone know of good Hospice textbooks or websites for studying for the CHPN examination? Thank you!

CPNE Questions Going to Grady in Atlanta in 2 weeks!
So its coming up, weekend after next!! And everytime I sit to study, I think of these crazy questions... So here I go again... 1- Can I carry my own hand gel in my pocket?? 2- Should I wear gloves for the skin assessment? I mean what if they ARE sweaty, thats a body fluid no? 3- If I am assigned Teaching, and I say "is this a good time to talk about ______?" and the patient says NO! What do I do? 4- I speak Spanish. If my patient does too, can I talk to them in Spanish??? Has anyone ever been assigned a non-english speaking patient? 5- Do we carry the MAR into the patient room when giving the medications? Where does it come from? Do we just take it from the nurses? 6- Abdominal Assessment. Ist P = PEE. What if the do have to Pee? Moving them a lot back and forth then back to bed will move all the things you want to listen too no? If I help them go Pee first, should I wait a while before doing the assessment? 7- IVP Med Station: Is there a clamp on the IV port to close after your 2nd flush? 8- IM/SQ Injectable medication station: Does the CE want to see the amount of AIR before I put it in?? Thank you!!!!! BALEERN2b!

CPNE 20 minute check
Thanks for the Nemonic, so to clairfy, you left your gloves on for checking the tubing and passed? If you touched the site with the clean gloves, then pinched the skin, and went up the tubing to check for kinks & the med wouldn't you be contaminating the tubing and med bag? I think in Rob's ebook it says to take them off, but I have to double check. Please post if anyone knows for certain.

Needs a Hospice Nurse's help!!
Absolutely agree with all of the above. Hospice can help him make the most of the time your aunt has left. Assure him, that his wishes and hers are the #1 priority of Hospice. Another thing you might want to do as the health care educated one here is to research the various Hospices in your area. One misunderstanding that most people have (including myself until I worked for Hospice) is that Hospice is one organization, when indeed it is many. I work for San Diego Hospice and Institute of Palliative Care, and here in San Diego, there are 17 other Hospices. Go on Yelp, or the internet and read what others are saying about Hospice services in your area, help your uncle choose the best one near you. Definitely reinforce to him that Hospice is not a place, but a form of caring that can help him keep her home and ease her passing without pain.
