  1. Hi there. Interviews are usually from a panel of nurses. In my case, I had 2 because the nursing manager had to be elsewhere. Dress professionally, be confident, and think about the questions asked before answering them. I can't exactly remember the questions I was asked but I know they asked a couple scenario questions. Know why you want to work on the floor you applied for and think try and remember a couple clinical experiences that you can go into depth about because they will ask you questions on that. Good luck! Hope this helps :)
  2. I thought the next step up is PCU or IMC.... Acuity is higher than med-surg yet lower than ICU. Going straight to ICU will probably overwhelm you. I am in IMC and let me tell you, some days I feel like the unit should be called ICU. The difference is that ratio is 1:4 vs 1:2 in ICU.
  3. 1. State you work in: NV 2. Years of experience: 0 (New Grad Residency) 3. Specialty/unit and work setting (clinic, hospital, prison, etc): IMC acute care hospital setting 4. Hourly Pay (base rate) or salary: 32.56/hr 5. Differentials (if any): yes but unsure of $ amounts yet 6. Union? California Nurses Association
  4. This "NCB" test is so stupid. I took it for an awesome new grad residency position and passed. However, I also took the same exact test for another hospital position and failed, which eliminated my chances of applying to over 10 hospitals in the city for 6 months. Yes, if you fail you aren't allowed to apply for any positions within that hospital system for SIX months! They don't tell you this before you test too. Supposedly it "weeds out" weak nurses but I think it's not accurate. An awesome nurse can fail this stupid personality test while an idiot nurse can pass. It's a hit or miss. They ask questions on a scale of agree vs disagree or 1 to 5 and you answer based on your opinions. There are no right or wrong answers. It's scored on some point system established from the hospital and determines if you would be a fit for their hospital. Needless to say, I got the job from the residency program, with a great starting salary as a new grad RN working in the IMC unit and cannot be happier. The NCB test is useless and can be detrimental for great nurses who happen to fail it. I wish they would just go with selecting a candidate based on resumes/cover letters and face to face interviews to accurately gauge a candidates' personality and see for themselves as nursing managers if that person is a fit for their hospital. HR should not be a barrier to selection!
  5. Being a veteran means nothing to the VA. I applied for the VALOR program with them as a nursing student and didn't get selected either. I have 7 years of active military experience in the USMC and I am also a war vet. Having a military background (veterans preference points) only puts your application to top of list for interview selection. I was so angry I didn't get it either as I got passed up for a married couple (yes, both got selected) in my nursing class that interviewed together. How effed up is that?
  6. Hi. I'm sorry to hear that you didn't pass. My advice is to pick ONE NCLEX source and master that front to back. Dedicate about 2 hours a day to focus on studying without any distractions and read all the rationales, even if the answer you chose was correct. I chose to use only the Saunders 5e CD to study. I studied one content area at a time and read the Rationales. This enforces what you may have already learned as well as explains why you got the question wrong. I dedicated about 3 weeks to study before taking my exam. Good luck!
  7. I was a per-diem sitter for 3 years (12hr/day shift) while going to nursing school. We do have full time sitters at our hospital (county). It is the easiest job ever and perfect for nursing students. I was able to get a lot of studying done (unless I had a really difficult patient).
  8. I'm from Las Vegas. Graduated May 11 and passed NCLEX June 12. Interviewed for New Grad residency on July 17th and got offered position the same day. But..... I have also applied and received rejection letters for about 20 other positions before landing this job. It's a hit or miss out here and a game of luck!
  9. Did you get your official offer letter yet? I'm still waiting on it. The verbal offer just feels surreal right now and I can't trust it until I see it on paper. Lol
  10. Yeah I agree. I was only there for 1 interview and had to wait 2 hours for it. I had a lot of anxiety watching people come and go. Soooo many people had two interviews, which made me feel kind of nervous because that doubles their chances of being selected. I had to do well in my only interview or I was done. I went in there expecting a lot of scenario questions but I got a lot of customer service related questions, as well as the dreaded conflict resolution question and difficult patient question. Congrats on getting selected though!! My friend also got selected for the same exact unit you did at same hospital. I will be there also in the IMC unit.
  11. Got the call around 3:30 today... Soooooooo excited to start working!!!!
  12. Just had interview today. Lots of new grads. I had a panel of two nurses and both were extremely nice! Of course I felt interview went well but it all comes down to who they decide to choose. They said they will be making selections shortly after all interviews and I should know within 2-3 days if I got selected. Fingers crossed :)
  13. Congrats on getting THREE interviews! I am also a new grad and have been dealt with a lot of rejection letters too. I have my own rejection email folder in my gmail account.. lol I am also interviewing next week for St. Rose IMC-Siena team. Fingers crossed that things go well as I am getting discouraged with the job hunting and rejections. I even started looking at non-RN jobs because I need the to find full-time work ASAP! As for choosing which hospital is best, that is up to you! I would be happy to just be offered any position as an RN at any hospital. But if you are interviewing for the St. Rose new grad residency, then they are structured to help a new grad succeed and provide a supportive transition from new grad to working RN.
  14. They say bring 1 professional and 1 personal reference. Do you think it would hurt to bring more than 2? I don't want to overdue it. Lol... Also, they say interviews begin at 8:30. Are they just interviewing us in the order we arrive or waiting for groups of people? I think group interviews are quite unprofessional and applicants should not be subject to that kind of cruelty where they must answer questions to outdo one another. I hope its a one-on-one or panel... just my two cents.
  15. I got an email this morning for interview on July 17 at 8:30am. I will be interviewing for IMC Siena. Good Luck and keep us all posted. Lets make this thread very informative for future applicants. :)
  16. I think it was under their job posting at the very bottom. I heard that they want BSN grads only and GPA must be 3.2 or better.
  17. I'm assuming that's where we upload all our documents. That's where I uploaded mine.
  18. Hi everyone. Just wanted to start a thread for the upcoming new grad residency at St. Rose. Applications being accepted today Jun 1- Jun 7. Lets keep in touch for all those who applied and see how this goes. They are only accepting 13 new grads.. smh...
  19. I was told within a week if they didn't have to do a second round of interviews. Fingers crossed!!
  20. It was for the PCU rotations. Did you apply for the unit-based position?
  21. Hey guys. Just had my interview with Grossmont PCU residency. Panel of 3. Holy Moly Scenarios!! Every question was a scenario question so be prepared!
  22. 3.8 GPA and currently precepting in an ICU in Las Vegas.
  23. I will be graduating in May with a BSN.
  24. It was 1600 overall that applied to the different units that Sharp is offering. LOL. I'm not sure how many applied specifically to the PCU Residency at Grossmont though. I forgot to ask the recruiter.
