Cant seem to get in anywhere :(
Hey all, so for the past 2-3 years i have been struggling to get into a nursing school.. I've been rejected countless times. I have a 3.0 GPA in my pre-reqs, I know thats not stellar but i have no way to retake them currently. I used to be in a private program about 3 years ago, but failed out 3/4's of the way through, failed 2 classes by .2 percent (i was an idiot at the time and was working full time while in an accelerated bachelors program). I took a year off school after that just because i was severely depressed and had no motivation to do anything. I started applying again but i just cant seem to get in. I cant go to a private program due to the mountain of debt i am in from my past nursing school. I've been in healthcare for about 8 years now (worked as an EMT for 3 years, then as a PBX operator at a hospital for 3 years, now at a different hospital as a Transporter/Lift-tech for 2 years). I am in Southern California, and I know the nursing schools here are ridiculously competitive, but I cant see myself doing anything else but nursing. It's something I wanted for a while now. My family is losing faith that i will become a nurse, and are trying to steer me into a different field, but I absolutely cant see myself doing anything but nursing. Ive been also encouraged by multiple nurses at my work to be a nurse. Another issue is that I am not getting any younger, im turning 30 this year and yet i still dont have a career and I dont want to wait around forever. I am absolutely desperate to get in somewhere, anywhere. Ive even thought about the idea of going overseas to Turkey (where my family is from, im also a dual citizen) to get my Nursing degree there (i can speak Turkish quite fluently) and coming back here. I really dont know what to do, and I hope someone here can provide some guidance. Thanks

Saddleback College Nursing
I got my letter today as well. I didn't get in . I feel pretty devastated. Those who got in how many points did you have? If I calculated correctly I had somewhere around 68-72 points, which ive been told that should be plenty to get in or atleast get into the alternate list. I am going to try to meet with the Dean of Nursing next week to go over my points, because I honestly believe there was a miscalculation of my points.

I also applied! If I calculated my points correctly, I have 72 points. I also have heard 70+ points is pretty much a guarantee. So hopefully that will be true :) Question though: does anyone know when the paperwork and stuff will happen after we find out? I am planning on going to vacation around December 14th- Jan 6th. I just hope Ill be able to get everything done before i leave

Dismissed from Program (Venting)
Hey all, I am (well was) in a Private BSN program. I recently got my 2nd fail (I didn't pass OB by 1 point). My first fail was Pharm (I didn't pass that 0.8%). I realize my faults, I frankly was spread too thin between my work and school and did not set enough time apart to study. I do have severe ADD, which I am getting treated with medication with. I do need to go to CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy) to further fix my issues. I am horrible with time management (which is part of the ADD). Anyways, I am absolutely devastated this happened, I mean to the point of going into a depression. I wish I could go back in time and change certain things but I cant. I am also extremely discouraged by reading the outcomes of Appeals on this forum. I absolutely plan to appeal, but I feel like the outcome is going to be not good. One thing I am really worried about the Appeals board is the fact that they will look at my past and see I had one or two classes I barley squeeked by in and they will find me unfit to continue. Although my GPA is 3.05 currently. I plan to give them an action plan of cutting back my hours at work (it takes a bit to do that). and also seek further treatment and school accommodations. A question that I have: What are my chances that the appeal will be successful? what can I do to give me a greater chance to have a successful appeal? I dont have any backup plans, I have my future riding on this. On top of that, if my appeal does not go through and I get dismissed I am going to be in a massive economic downfall, as I will have massive student debt with nothing to show for it. I just feel extremely lost right now... I guess I just need some words of encouragement or advice or something..

Best White Mens Shoes?
Hey all Im a Male Nursing student, I am halfway through my program, I currently have white shoes but they are super uncomfortable (it feels like strapping bricks to my feet and trying to walk). I did add Dr. Scholes insoles but they still are pretty dang uncomfortable. It seems like White shoes for males are really hard to find in stores. Anyone have any recommendations on where I can find some? and what brands do you guys prefer? They do have to be all white (per our uniform policy) and they have to be leather or any non-absorb-able, non-puncture material.

Find your Specialty Quiz
I am in Nursing school-BSN, I have about a year left. The results were interesting 1.Military Nurse (which I have been thinking about after school) 2. Neonate ICU- Eh, havnt had my peds rotation yet, so I cant say weather i'd like dealing with kids or not 3. Toxicology Nurse- Another avenue that has my interest (I like chemicals and all that). 4. Substance Abuse Nurse- Which is also something i'd be very interested in because I've had quite a few friends struggle with substance abuse. very interesting results

Dug myself in an academic hole
Thank you all for the responses! I am leaning toward option #2 as well, I think the main reason that I have been struggling is my Time Management skills are horrendous. I have always had an issue with this.. I have moderate-severe ADD, and so its a huge struggle to manage my time and stay focused. While, I am on medication, I feel like it is not enough. If I do end up taking option #2, I plan on going to therapy to correct those problems while I have the rest of the term off. I emailed my professor to schedule a meeting with her this week, to get her opinion on things as well. I also feel burnt out as well because I work 24 hours a week, (I did cut back my hours a bit this term) on top of school. Most of the time I am so tired from lecture and work that I just want to sit and relax and watch movies or play games and before you know it I've wasted all my time... so I definitely need to seek help for that

Dug myself in an academic hole
Hey all, I am currently in an Accelerated BSN program, I am Taking Med/Surg 2 this term as well as Nutrition.. I have been struggling with Med/Surg 2, I feel like I study but its never enough, and then I take the tests (While I feel like I did pretty good), I bomb them. Anyways here is the situation: Earlier this year (three terms ago) I failed Pharmacology, So I had to retake it, at my school we cant fail more than one class or else we get dropped from the program. This term in Med/surg 2 my grade in the class is a 72% after the third exam (76% is passing). I have one more exam plus the final. I have to score at least an 80% on both of them. The last day to drop the class without penalty is this Friday. Here is the breakdown on what I got on my exams for Med/Surg 2 so far: Exam #1: 80%. Exam #2: 65% Exam 3: #70% Now I have Two Options: Option #1: I can not drop, continue with the course and try to get an 80% on the last two exams, but if I dont, I get kicked out of the program. (which I dont feel too confident in my abilities right now) Option #2: I can drop this course and be a Term behind, and prolong my graduation date by 10 weeks. Its gonna cost me a bit more in Tuition, and on top of that I already am I term behind from failing pharm I am stuck in a rock and a hard place right now, and I could use some opinions/views

Didnt Pass Pharm :(
So I didnt make it through Pharm this Term, I finished the class with a 75.2% and Passing is a 76% in my school.. I know my mistakes though, I know I didnt study hard enough, sitting down and studying has been such a struggle for me and plus Im feeling a bit burnt out from school already! but I know I have to keep going this is something I really want.. I am just so afraid because If I fail one more time in my program I am going to get kicked out.. I know that it is going to only get tougher I guess I just need some words of encouragement!

History of Present Illness Help
Hey all, I am working on my care plan and I am having trouble with my History of Present Illness, does anyone have any resources to point me in the right direction? What do we all list? My patient is an 83 year old Caucasian female admitted to a SNF for HTN, Esophageal Reflux, Depressive Psychosis and Alzheimer's Disease. I could not get an accurate background on her due to her not remembering much and her Chart does not list much in terms of her background.

First Clinicals; what to bring?!
I didn't mean the student bringing his/her own gloves, our school provides us a sperate batch of gloves separate from the gloves that are used in the facility due to money issues of the facility... but the point I was try to make is to have a bunch of spare gloves in a pouch or in the pocket so you dont have to keep running around looking for gloves!
