  1. Thank you for responding [COLOR=#003366]Billy_Ruben. I'm wondering if it is too low myself, but I think I'm going to give it a try. If I need to, I can always take another semester of classes to push it up to a 3.5. Have a great day!
  2. Thank you for responding [COLOR=#003366]klone, BSN, RN. There are quite a few in the area that I've talked to that would be willing to let me do clinical there, if I get into a program. They were even willing to go through preceptor training (or equiv) if they needed to. I'd have to drive about an hour to their sites, but considering I drove two hours one way for my ADN program, an hour isn't to bad. Thanks for the input! Have a great day!
  3. Thank you for responding [COLOR=#003366]mmlpn, ADN, BSN, LPN, EMT-B. Your post has given me a lot of home! I believe I'm going to give it a try! If nothing else, I can take some extra classes and raise my GPA a bit. Again, thank you! Have a great day!
  4. I have heard from others that the Pearson Vue trick no longer works either. I don't have any 100% proof as I took my NCLEX back in June 2013 and it worked then. However, I know it didn't take long to show up on the BON website. In fact, I believe it was exactly 46 hours later. I know that isn't much comfort, but you may try checking your state BON website. Good luck!
  5. Hi everyone! I just have a quick question and was hoping some of you could give me some suggestions. Here is a bit of a back story: I'm a mom of 5 who started college late. I enrolled in RN school (ADN) program when I was 25. I graduated in 2013 and I am graduating with my BSN this December from the University of Texas at Arlington. I'm now 29 years old and all but one of my children are in school (and he will start pre-k in August). I never thought I would even go to college, but here I am and I want even more. I am really interesting in becoming an FNP and I have been doing some research about many of the online programs, such as Frontier University, Walden, and S. Indiana, just to name a few. I live in a very rural town in Oklahoma and there are no programs in my area, hence I'm looking at the online programs. My question is, my GPA at the end of this semester is a 3.35 cumulative. I am very worried that this isn't competitive enough to apply to the nurse practitioner programs. Now that my children are bigger and will all be in school, I have much QUIET time to devote to school. Also, I will be able to work PRN (or not at all if need be) if I'm accepted to a program. I will have 2 years of RN experience and 1 year of LPN experience when/if I apply. Am I wasting my time even trying to apply? I don't know anyone who has applied to any of these schools, or to FNP school period, so I'm really at a loss on who to ask. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season!
  6. Hello everyone. I am in the process of endorsing my Oklahoma RN license to Texas. I filled out the online application and when I reached the part where it asked about criminal history I selected no. I did have an arrest, over 10 years ago, when I was 19 years old. However, as I was under the impression that it was a class C misdemeanor, I did not report it, as it stated Class C traffic violations didn't need to be reported. I was pulled over for speeding and incorrect lane change, both traffic violations. The police officer said he had the option to arrest me for reckless driving since I committed two violations in one and he did just that. I spent the weekend in jail since it was a Friday and saw the judge on Monday. I did not have the money for an attorney so I went ahead and chose deferred adjudication, paid a fine, was on probation for 90 days, completed all of my probation and was put the incident behind me. Being older and wiser, I would have chose to hire an attorney, but live and learn. Long story short, on my background check the arrest came back and my endorsement license cannot be processed until I send documentation of the arrest. My question is, will they complete my review in the first 45 days or do you think they will push it to the enforcement division which is 4 to 6 months minimum review time. I'm afraid since I did not disclose the arrest that I will be denied a license. I was under the impression this was a class C misdemeanor when in fact, it was a Class B misdemeanor. I have never actually look to any paperwork from the arrest since it was so long ago so I was unaware it was a class B until my initial endorsement application letter was sent back saying they could not process it because of the arrest. I have not been arrested since nor have I even had as much as a speeding ticket. Do you think this is going to be a major issue? I am worried that since I didn't disclose it in the beginning, but I was under the impression it was a classy and did not have to be disclosed. Any thoughts or personal experiences are appreciated. Thank you.
  7. Hi everyone! I have what may be a simple question, but it is something that disturbs me. I am a new graduate RN and was working for a staffing agency for a while when I was sent to a nursing home (directed towards patients with mental health issues). The aides were getting these patients up (the patients did not request this to my knowledge and it was not a problem of incontinence) and giving the residents baths at 11pm and even some at 3am! I know I don't want to get up at 3am to take a bath, and I was so angry, I didn't allow this to happen again while I was there. My question is, in the state of Oklahoma, is there a law that limits the times that baths can be given? If so, where can I find a copy of the law to have it for ref. purposes? Thank you all.
  8. Hi everyone, I want to first thank you all for taking time out to read my question. I am in my freshman year (second semester) in an ADN program here in Oklahoma. I will graduate in May 2013 and will take the RN NCLEX that summer as well. I then plan to work as an RN at our local hospital while I work on my RN to BSN. My ultimate goal is to become a Nurse Practitioner (possibly for peds). I am 27 years old and I didn't decide on the nursing career until after my youngest son was born in Dec 2010, so I got a late start on college. My gpa right now is a 3.68 (on a 4.0 scale) and I have A's in my nursing courses so far. However, I do have some B's on a few pre-reqs and this is my question: Should I go back and re-take the classes that I made B's in, to get these grades up, before I apply to the Nurse Practitioner program (which please keep in mind, is several years from now). I have collected some experience during clinical and I have a second interview for a possible Nurse Extern summer program at our local hospital. If I am accepted into the summer program, I can continue working after the program ends as an advanced nurse tech, which I plan to do, just so I will have my "foot in the door" at the hospital I want to work at when I become an RN. I live in southern Oklahoma, and I plan to apply to OU (University of Oklahoma) because they have a program that is mostly online and the clinicals can be done at the Ardmore hospital (the hospital I am planning to get an extern position at). Although, I'm not going to put all my eggs in one basket and I will be applying to several schools, but this is my dream choice. Any information helps. Thank you all so much for your time. Enjoy your Sunday!
  9. Hi everyone, I am in my second semester of a 2 year RN program and I'm starting to realize there are some things I just want to commit to memory to make things easier during my clinical life as well as in my future career as an RN. I've started by making index cards (to use as flash cards) and I have made some for normal lab results for adults and children (such as cbc, hemoglobin, BUN, etc). I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions that they know by memory or things you think would be good for me to start commiting to memory. Thanks for taking the time to read this and for all the help everybody! I hope you all have a wonderful night!
  10. Thanks everybody for all the responses!! I'm soooo glad all of you that have taken it have passed!!!! Congrats!!! I will not be taking my test until this May, after completing my second semester of freshman year, I just want to start preparing now! Again, thanks for all the comments everyone, you were all VERY helpful!!!!! Smyles, I will send you an email in the morning, thank you for your help! Congrats again on passing everyone!!!!!
  11. OH, I understand the nervousness!!! That is a scary exam!!! Yes, I hope you pass!!!! Just study, study, study!! Let me know how it goes, I will be thinking about you!!!!
  12. Hi everyone, I am about to finish my first semester of my first year (of a two year program) in my RN program. Our school requires that we take the HESI exit exam after we finish our second semester of the first year, but we must past this test with an 850 (no matter if we passed the semester or not) to continue to second year. In the past years, the students were allowed 3 tries to pass, but now they are only allowing us 1 attempt. I'm so nervous because there must have been a reason that they gave 3 attempts in the first place! I have passed all of my instructors exams so far and I took a practice HESI exit from the site, it gave 20 questions, and I got a 70%. I thought this was ok since I've only been in the program 14 weeks and we haven't focused on specific diseases and systems yet (that starts next semester, we focused on the history, certain skills, and assessment this semester). I am just so scared that I have worked so hard in this program, kept an A average, done what was expected at clinical, learned my skills, and this will all be for nothing if I fail this test. My question is did you have to take the HESI exam and if so, did you pass the first try? Is there anything out there (books, computer programs, websites...) that really helped you prepare for the test? I live in Southern Oklahoma so I don't have a lot of big stores, but we do have Walmart and Dallas is a little less than two hours away so I can always drive to find books and such there. THANK YOU ALL for taking time to read this and for all the help!! Best wishes!!!!!!
  13. THANKS EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!!! I did not know there was a way to alert craigslist about these type of scams until I read all the replies. I did save the email, just in case it turns out to be some creepo that finds me. I didn't give any information, didn't even give my real name or use my home email, so I don't think they can hack anything and get any info. I did print out the email to turn it in to local authorities if I have any trouble (thanks for that suggestion here). Again, thanks everybody! I learned a lot about craigslist on here (good and bad). Have a wonderful night everyone! :)
  14. hi everyone, i am a nursing student looking for work while i put myself through school. i saw an ad on craigslist (i have never used craigslist for anything, because i tend to believe most people are trying to scam) but i replied to the job anyway. the ad was looking for cna's in the texoma area, didn't give much information and gave an email to get more information for anyone who was interested. so, long story short, i sent a very general email (not giving any personal info besides my first name and general experience) and i received the below email as a reply. what do you all think? i'm pretty sure it's a scam and my husband says it is 100% a scam. it just doesn't sound right to me. especially asking where i live so he can move his sister close to me. i copied and pasted so this is the exact wording/spelling. any input is appreciated. thanks everybody! here is the email: re: requesting information about the cna job posting on craigslist. message flagged thursday, august 4, 2011 2:09 pm message body good day, i have received your message. my sister will be coming from fayetteville, north carolina and she will be moving on 15th of august 2011. she is 47 years of age. 175lbs ,5.8ft and speaks english fluently.she is diabetic and hypertensive.we really need you to be honest and trust worthy in this work. the work basis are below. - you are to be checking on my sister 4 times in a week for proper caring and to know about her well being. - you will be earning $750 per week of handling this work properly. - you will be handling her transportation to the hospital for proper medical check up at least once in a month and if you don't know how to drive, you will hire a car. -- your working days will be mon, wednesday, friday and saturday.you will have to decide the convenient hours during each of these days which will not affect your other regular work(if you have any) as this will be a part time work for you and if you want to live with her in the house for other assistance there will be no problem. so kindly provide me your full name and mailing address so that we can ensure the housing agent get her an apartment which will be more closer to your house and i hope about 10 miles will not be too far for you. also i'll will be paying you the first week wages upfront via a certified check because you will help her to get some medical tools like one touch basic machine,acu-check machine and test trips in any nearest pharmacy store around.i need you to know that the funds for those items needed would be added to your first week upfront pay on the check and you would be instructed on what next to do once you receive the check including the funds that would be sent to the cashier of the realtor headquarter to secure her accommodation. so i want you to feed me back with the following details so that we can ensure you are ready for the work. 1. full name 2. mailing address, 3. city 4. state and zip code 5. phone number 6.age, sex and marital status. i will be sending you her living address very soon so that you will know where you will be working.i will give you her living address once the rental agent find her a suitable house. i will be awaiting your email soonest and we can proceed as you can understand that the date is getting approach. regards, mr. jerry brown
  15. Do you mind showing a small example of your resume? I have made them before, but they are always the plain Jane ones I learned to make back in high school. Sounds like you have some great ideas on how to tweak and make a resume shine!
