  1. Thanks, Jnette - we need thinkers, "encouragers", and movers like you.
  2. Hear, hear! Hoooorray to all the LTC nurses I currently work in the pharma research industry after grad school (MS Nsg) -before which I worked in acute care for 4 yrs., and before that as an LTC nurse (4 yrs). Absolutely right, LTC nurses have a different skill set, but this does not stop them from being effective and productive in other settings, e.g., acute care, research, home care - no matter what the hiring managers think and what their SOPs dictate. My heart still belongs to my LTC years and colleagues - we still are in touch and very much friends. It's a different and unique culture, patient-wise and colleague-wise. :) To dekatn and cursenurse - I understand your situation. It's time you present your managers an evidence based argument. Go out there, do a literature search, study the theoretical framework/strenghts/limitations of your suggestions - and if they are not convinced, then you can move your suggestions up further in the chain of command. It's time you unite your fellow LTC nurses and let your boss know that you are practicing with knowledge and using the current scientific literature out there to promote evidence based practice. :)
  3. Hello, Arayav. Please feel free to PM me :) . I am a practicing RN here in California and got my green card through a sponsorship from an employer. If you're already in the US, your best bet is absolutely to try passing the CGFNS, there is no question about that. You have to target the reasons why you are not passing - is it the clinical aspect of nursing or the English part where you have difficulty understanding the questions. You will need the CGFNS certificate wherever you practice here. What field of work are you currently in? My suggestion is in the meantime look for a CNA or Certified Nursing Assistant job in a long term care facility. They are usually good in sponsoring nurses and you can do that once you have passed your CGFNS, then pass your RN-NCLEX to get licensed as an RN in the state where you want to practice. Absolutely - fight again! Do not lose hope, there are a lot of opportunities out there and you should grab them while you are waiting to pass your CGFNS. One obstacle you have passed through is getting here - you are here :rotfl: - so make the most out of it. PM me if you want to, I'd be happy to share. Take care and pursue. :balloons:
