When I was a student, I noticed CNAs & RNs charting according to the previous domentation. It was so obvious because vitals were so off from my assessments. For example, a night shift nurse noted duraderm on sacrum. I did my assessment and found no duraderm. The nurse on shift got to the chart before I did and documented duraderm. As a student I documented my findings, and the nurse then asked about it. She shook her head as if it was the night nurse's fault. She was an excellent nurse however.

It sounds a wee bit personal as well...sorry.. Her conceit is obvious, and she may be getting away with these things because of her personable skillls? idk.

I'm in the same boat as you. I signed with a staffing agency and am open to nurse aide positions meantime. I tried to directly apply at a hospital near where I live and was told that I needed to be certified as a NA. My BSN was not applicable, according to the human resource. It was bogus. The staffing agencies are your best bet for na work because they do the job search for you. It's a great way to be exposed to many facilities meanwhile.

Great advice! And, all so true. I had known a few women that divorced, separated, and/or on anti-anxiety meds while in nursing school. It's sad, but the demands of school puts a lot of stress on your personal life. Your co-mates will be the only ones that you can relate to while you're in school. I had two break-ups, gained 10 lbs. and lost my beach tan since nursing school... but, it was all worth it. For the last two years, I met a wonderful man who was supportive throughout.

43, newgrad BSN 12/09. My age is just a number, look & fit as 30s, so I feel.... and co-mates were clueless of my "real" age. Point is, youngies are tech-savvy and quicker. Admit that we waste class time by initiating discussion on issues rather than the lecture, less hip on tech, put more time into studies cause we have to, more obligations and responsiblities affect study groups. Without the young-mates, nursing school would've been very difficult for me. They made my life easier. However, life experiences taught me to handle stress very well. My sergeant clinical instructor brought many youngies to tears....the sgt. would e-mail me and praised my performances each time I stood her wrath. I was able to console and encourage the youngies like a big-sister which they appreciated. They could hide behind me when it was tough, eventually to stand next to me, and keep on trucking with sweat & tears but head held high. Each generation brougth uniqueness to the floor, recognition of the differences will enhance your individual endeavors. :cheers:
