Boston College Masters Entry Program 2010
Hi All, So I was confused about fin aid too and actually went to campus for a meeting. I can't say it was terribly helpful but I do feel better about things. First of all, I learned that I could decline my work study because I would rather be able to borrow that money, I don't think we will have much time to do anything other than study. Basically, the total cost of attendance is the most money we can borrow federally. Some of that was already awarded to us by BC in the form of low interest Stafford and Perkins loans as well as work study. These amounts should be on everyone's award letters. Now, subtract this amount from your total cost of attendance and what you are left with is how much more you can borrow to pay for rent, books, food etc. I am going to take out a GRAD PLUS federal loan so I have more options with deferment and my rate is locked in (8.5%) however people could choose to go with a private lender (Sallie Mae, etc.) or a bank. All the money you borrow goes directly to BC. Once your tuition and fees are paid you can request a check or direct deposit for the rest so you have that money in your bank account to pay for living expenses. Hopefully this is helpful. Good Luck! I am so excited to meet everyone =) And congratulations on your wedding micronerd!

I am doing the Red Cross Professional Rescuer course in Waltham on May 22nd if anyone else wants to join! I am not too pumped about spending my whole Saturday there but I heard this course was good and you get a pocket mask and training book.

Hi Dgrimm, I'm glad you chose BC and that we are all so excited! I wish there was a group of some sorts as well so we can all get to know each other and share information before school starts. You should look at the BC website for the campus shuttle maps, it looks like the cover more area off of the T so you could expand where you look for apartments. :)

Hi NP to be! BC is on the B-line of the metro but you can walk there from the D and C lines as well. I would look in the Alston/Brighton are (more urban and younger), or Newton/Chestnut Hill (suburbs with more families). I don't know much about the CA programs but I have talked to a few BC grads who said the program was intense but they felt prepared to practice after-wards. I hope you enjoy your trip out here to Boston, it is still pretty cold.

UVM MEPN 2010 acceptance?
Congratulations to those accepted and good luck to those on the waitlist! I was accepted to UVM but I am hesitant to accept based on my whole experience with the application/interview process. Is anyone else worried that this might be a reflection of the program as a whole? I went to UVM undergrad and had nothing but positive experiences. It frustrates be that this experience has tainted my and others views of the University. Also, does anyone know if the deposit is refundable? Thanks!

UVM MEPN 2010 acceptance?
I also went to UVM undergraduate and love Burlington. I am currently a clinical research coordinator at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston (and I just got into BC so that is helping take the edge off waiting for UVM). I was interviewed by phone for the psych track at UVM but still not letter, we should know soon this is posted on the UVM website: *MEPN 2010 Applicants* *Thank you all for your interest in the Master's Entry Program into Nursing at the University of Vermont. We have completed the initial review of all applicants, completed interviews with the top candidates, and have made recommendations to the Graduate College about Acceptance offers. It will take a few days for them to process the recommendations and we expect letters will be mailed out the week of February 8th. Students who receive an acceptance letter will have two weeks to respond and confirm their interest. At that point we will begin contacting students from the Wait List until we fill all available spots. We had so many qualified applicants we regret that we cannot offer many more of you a seat in the class this year. If you have questions once you receive your letter, please contact the Office of Student Services at: (802) 656-3858 and they will assist you in getting your questions answered.*

I also sent in my deposit (psych mental health). I agree, I bet there will be a second round of acceptance letters that goes out after they see who accepted for the 10th deadline. Good Luck everyone!

I got into the psych mental health program! Congrats to those who got in and good luck to people waiting to hear. I am also a little stressed that the deadline is so soon and the deposit is non refundable, I am still waiting to hear from my other schools. But on the bright side I am officially going to be a nurse practitioner!! woohoooo
