2011 WCCCD Applicants
You do need to attend one of the information meetings. They require proof as part of the application so you'll have to make it work with your schedule. They might even have them on the weekends. They really answer any questions you could have about applying. I got in with the Fall 2010 cohort so hopefully not much has changed. We don't have to take chemistry; the essays were about both "Why I Want to Be a Nurse" and "Where I See the Future of Nursing" which can be combined into one essay if you want; I doubt the point system has changed; and I believe you have to use certifiedbackground.com. Hope that helps!

WCCCD FALL 2010
Hmm I have a pair of darker brown sweat pants that I was hoping to use. I suppose I'll get some navy blue ones if I have to. The only thing they were specific about was that we HAD to wear plain white shoes and a plain white t-shirt. I've been buying previous editions of the textbooks they wanted us to buy (to save a bunch of money...like seriously). Like I bought the 7th edition of the foundations book instead of the 8th edition. Do you think it'll be that huge of a deal? Also, do you know what tools we'll need for lab? I know a stethoscope and a penlight but what else?

Cheap place for a TB test?
I got my titers/physical/drug panel done at Western Wayne Family Health Center in Taylor. I don't have insurance and they're stuff is done on a sliding scale. All I had to pay was $20 but I do have to apply for medicaid or they'll charge me the full $150 fee. I would have gotten my TB test done there but they said it would cost $37. With your happy letter you do get a form for them to fill out with all the titers/physical/etc. so you have to wait to get it all done, but you have to get it all set within the 30 days you receive the letter. You said orientation...did you mean information meeting?

Cheap place for a TB test?
I should have specified that I'm in Wayne County (Detroit). Thanks guys! I'll check out that Oakwood clinic :)

Cheap place for a TB test?
So I've got my titers, physical, and drug panel taken care but I still need a TB test. Where can I get one for cheap? I keep hearing about Oakwood having $10 tests but I don't exactly know where to go? Does anyone know? Thanks!

No Worker Left Behind
That is disconcerting. Bummer. Maybe I'll wait and see what happens in July. The Michigan Nursing Scholarship is gone as well (from what I hear). Man, what other options do we have besides student loans (which I hope I can get)?

No Worker Left Behind
Now that I have my admission letter I'll have to check into the Oak Park branch.

WCCCD Fall 2010
I'm finishing up my last 2 co-reqs this summer so altogether it will have taken me 5 semesters. This includes BIO 155, PS 101, DT 130, BIO 240, BIO 250, BIO 295, BIO 252, PSY 200, and HSC 100. (I already had most core requirements because I previously earned my Bachelor's degree in 2005.) Besides getting all As in your pre-reqs I would also advise getting all your co-reqs done before you start the nursing program. And do research on the professors. Ratemyprofessor.com is my go-to for this.
