The 'healthcare is a right' people are almost invariably Obamacare supporters. Without fail... It's not meant as discouragement but merely pointing out that the exalted plan of universal healthcare is a fail. It's also a reminder that no government plan can be perfect. The idea of reform, for this reason, is silly. The idea that we must undertake this reform because healthcare is a right is therefore a non-starter. People want reform so badly that they ignore everything until they get it. Then we'll want reform of the reform and then some more reform... It'll cost more and more money. When there was no evidence granted it was grotesqueness and horribleness. Now that we are presenting evidence of the inefficacy of guaranteeing health care for everyone of the failures of the systems our country is attempting to move to it is called discouragement... I get the feeling that this is not a logical decision but merely something people want because it 'feels good.'

Service sector? The proper title is underclass. Except, in America, unlike the other industrial nations many here wish to emulate, people can move themselves between classes instead of being stuck in it. While social democracy, which is what you are suggesting, has limited success it has not been any more successful then our capitlistic democracy. People continue to point out that we are the richest nation and then want us to do what the other countries are doing. Has it escaped people that we are the richest nation because we don't do as the other nations do? Plus, with few exceptions, the countries with universal healthcare are drowning. So called universal care has failed repeatedly, cost more than private care and resulted in tremendous demand it cannot keep up with. Even state run universal healthcare is not doing great and forget Medicare. France and England, arguably the countries with healthcare being held up as our example are adopting parts of OUR healthcare system to combat the overwhelming cost of universal healthcare. One only has to read the papers in these countries to see the massive failures of their systems. Yet we MUST jump on universal healthcare? What's that old saying? Oh yes... Don't throw the baby out with the bath water... You don't fix a system that fails a minority with a system that fails the majority... It's not a matter of respect. It's common sense. There cannot even be true reform. What you propose requires an entire rewrite of the way we do things and what we consider our way of life and it will require giving up MUCH in the way of other things such as the military and all the other spending we do... Does anyone REALLY see that happening anytime soon? I don't see it happening. Ever.

Not to offend but marijuana isn't the 'cause' of your problems... It's merely a symptom of a bigger problem as drugs always are... I'll leave it at that.

I know MANY places that hire men over women unless the woman is far more qualified. I've noticed this in only 2 types of facilities though. A) Those that lack males. Though this may not be hiring men over women but just snapping them up when they see them. B) Heavy as heck facilities that love having extra men for the heavy work. They DO exist and anyone working as a male aid can attest to the dreaded 'Can you help me lift Mr. So and So' heard 50+ times per shift... I don't think it's discrimination. If you had a harder than normal job that required a lot of physical labor and given that you had two applicants equal in experience and one was a 5'4" 130 lb woman and a 6'3" 220 male you wouldn't choose the male??? Hah!!

Phone interviews are a normal part of the unemployment process. Every state does them. They also conduct fact finding interviews with the employer and other individuals. Most unemployment offices aren't very large and they won't pay anything until they are satisfied you are eligible. Plus, depending on the state you are in I am betting they are very swamped.

Quite simply a moral judgment that you can't really win. It might not be a right for you but that does not make it a universal constant. Industrialized is a loaded term with no real definition. Avoid wikipedia. Out of 195 countries 32 have universal healthcare. Hardly a quorum. I said healthcare isn't a right. I never said fraud (even legal fraud) was ok. You are mixing your arguments or misunderstanding mine. I never said I am against healthcare reform. I am against universal, state run healthcare AND if we do have it I don't want to pay for non-contributing people. I also don't include children, elderly or people with permanently disabling issues like the mentally ill, and other disabled people in the non-contributing group. Though I have already said that. Does that strike you as needing help??? I have the feeling many people here don't know what poor really means and who really needs help... 40 hours a week at minimum wage with no insurance is 'American Poor.' It's not real poor. Real poor is Haiti... American poor is well off in most places in this world.

A: Don't attack me. My child hood was great. Had a drop out run away mother that CHOSE to bust her butt. Had a father from the ghetto that CHOSE to bust his butt. No excuses... B: They CHOOSE to work at McDonald's. They COULD have chosen schooling. They COULD choose a second or third job. C: It's not a BASIC right. If it is then I am sure you'll volunteer to send all your cash ensuring that right to the billions in the world without healthcare? No? Didn't think so. D: I'm not priviliged. I bust my butt. I'm sorry they are going so slow but it IS the government. On a side note... Employers pay unemployment. Not employees.

We saw plenty of Americans choosing family over others during Katrina... It's the nature of the world and has nothing to do with 'grotesque' childhoods. We sure are seeing it in Haiti. We saw the Oakland cop shoot that boy and it was ok because he was a drug dealer. We see the bodies of children in Iraq but it's ok because that bomb was meant for the terrorist. Is it not grotesque to drive by the bum and not look his way? Is it grotesque when, even here on this forum, so called compassionate humans denigrate those that suffer addictions? Is it grotesque when people argue about the good that comes about from sucking the brains out of a fetus because it's the mothers right? Is it grotesque when children dump their parents in nursing homes and see them once a year? Heck, there are threads ridiculing patients and coworkers that are considered annoying. Is that not grotesque? Don't even get me started on the threads where they label other nurses Ms. Bipolar and whatnot. But expecting the poor to take responsibility makes me a horrible person. :lol2:

Who said it's a matter of right or wrong. Simplified explanations are invariably wrong but I'm sure you already know that. I think everyone is dispensable not just the lowest 20-30%. Sure everyone likes to play the hero but when the hard times come even you will circle the wagons around your family and put yourself and yours first. To say different is false. Some of us just do it all the time.

That is something that I disagree with. Pre-existing conditions shouldn't bar someone from getting for insurance. Of course... If we do that insurance companies would go broke as that is how insurance works. The company gambles on the fact that it doesn't have to spend as much as it earns. If it did it would have to significantly raise rates on people which no one would be able to afford. Though I do believe people that resign and/or are laid off that have been paying into a health plan should be allowed to either remain in that plan (but continue to pay) or the insurance company should be required to roll them over into a private plan that includes the same price and benefits. If they could cover you under a group plan they should be able to cover you under a private plan.

I'm on ehealthinsurance.com right now... For a 32 year old smoker monthly prices are ranging from 80$-250$ (individual) and 250-630 (family 1 smoker 1 spouse and two children) for plans from Aetna, BCBS, Kaiser, etc. All with reasonable deductions, limits and copays... With the exception of denials due to preexisting conditions which I agree are bunk I don't really see what the problem with affordability is... I'll stipulate that it could be harder for a family to maintain coverage but that is really just another reason not to have a family size one cannot afford. There doesn't seem to be any reason a healthy adult can't afford healthcare. As an example I pay ~58ish$ monthly for Kaiser Signature. My employer pays 75% of the total cost. So $232 for insurance. A bit of a hassle no doubt but still quite doable. At minimum wage sure that would be a deal breaker but does that mean we all pay for insurance for the minimum wage worker or that the wage worker moves themselves up in life? Many of the people I personally know without insurance have 400+ car notes, bad credit, 1+ children and low skill jobs... What wrong with that picture? What's wrong with the existing state level healthcare programs for children, the elderly and the disabled???

That's a personal stance. Not everyone feels the same about everyone. It's also not 'wrong' however you feel about someone. It may be unhealthy for the feeler but it isn't wrong. Everyone does this. Everyone. Note the fact that you can't be a nurse if ever convicted of certain crimes. Even if the said crime took place decades before. Even if the person is now a contributing member of society. Even if they have become trustworthy. People place themselves in certain groups and society treats them accordingly. This will always be true.

MArijuana is a schedule one because the moral overlords of this country decided it should be... The policy in effect was the same policy that spawned movies like 'Reefer Madness.' The federal government WILL be legalizing it though. The writing is on the wall. MAny states have legalized it. It's a shoo in in DC and Obama's DOJ has already stated it will no longer pursue medical marijuana users/distributers. The battle is over.
