  1. Hello All I am a nursing student and working on trying to narrow down my topic for a research synthesis paper. I am interested in doing neonatal circumcision to reduce infections in infancy however I am having a hard time relating this directly with nursing. The articles I am finding are mainly dealing with it from a medical aspect rather than from a nursing perspective.
  2. I'm currently in nursing school, first semester. I find that the nursing care plan books help alot in learning how to write all aspects of care plans. I use them heavily along with my nursing books. Dont feel like you have to write and invent all this stuff yourself. Alot of the work has already been done for you.... I use a care plan book by swearingen and another by gulanick. You can find them on amazon.
  3. I'm not sure if they take experience into account or not. I obviously don't have any so it must not be that big a deal. As for my scores - I got a cum score of 87 on the hesi. I did real well in all but Science. That is what brought my score down. I took the test before most of my science prereqs. I believe my GPA at application was about a 3.6. Although the program is going to be intense, I look at it as one intense year rather than 2. Nursing school is intense regardless of the program you go into and ABSN programs are more intense than the regular route but people do it, graduate and take the NCLEX and pass... To me, thats what matters. Dont let people psyche you out of believing you can't do it. Remember, its one year.... How fast do years go by n your life? Because in mine they are over before I even realize it...
  4. Hi sugarmagnolia, I was accepted into the May 2011 class and will be starting this may. I am SOOOO excited!!! With Baylor, I have had a great experience right from the beginning. I interviewed in Sept/Oct ( I cant remember which month) and found out the decision in late December. I felt pretty confident since I had good grades, however I was lacking in experience. I did do a CNA program which might ahve helped but that is about all the experience I had in the medical field. I also did very well on the HESI exam.
  5. CAgirlintx, With those stats, how did you not get into the program??
  6. Yes it is possible to get into a class during that time. I think you are talking about late registration. The best way to do it is to make sure you register as soon as it opens. I have registered that way each semester and have gotten into the class I wanted.
  7. Yep! Me too... Woke up to my rejection letter at well. However I did find out that all those that were accepted were notified the 5th of November. I'm a little bummed because I felt that I was pretty competitive with my grades however maybe it was the Teas that did me in... Who knows... On to the next option.
  8. I think it really just depends on the admissions committee at each school. Sorry but I am not waiting for a decline letter. I'm waiting to hear on my acceptance so I can go ahead with my current plans. Waiting for failure is insane. Why apply if you feel you arent even gonna get accepted? El Paso is different from Austin and have different people looking over applications. Just because Austin sent out offers of admission doesn't mean much for the el paso folks. Keep your head up! They said the middle of November... No reason to have doubts yet.
  9. I want to ask why you think it will be tomorrow but actually I'm hoping it will be tomorrow. Im tired of waiting!!! (and checking my email... )
  10. Congrats for getting accepted! I'm waiting to hear about the acceptance for El Paso. Has anyone heard in the El Paso group? I'm surprised Austin heard so quickly, their interviews were later than ours! haha I'm even more nervous!
  11. I think it depends on your teacher. I took a 4 week class m-f, 8 hours a day and felt it was a breeze. We went over the reading before the quizzes and had to do our workbook every night. It was definitely common sense however don't rely on that making it easy. There are certain skills, like making a bed, that have to be done a certain way to pass the state test. I think with your workload you will be fine. It might be challenging if you have kids, but I still think you can do it.
  12. I feel my interview went well however I also feel that you never really know how an interview goes unless you get it/ or don't get what you are going after. I've had great interviews for jobs that I didn't get and horrible interviews for jobs I did get, so you can see the confusion. haha Anyway, from what I've heard from other interviewees, the interviews were pretty different for each person. It appears they were tailored for that person. Some were asked about expenses, I wasn't. I noticed that a few were asked why they wanted to be a nurse, where as my question along those lines was, why do you want to change and why now? Similar questions, but can pull very different answers. It might have alot to do with the essay that was written and background info on your resume, who knows. Most people that I talked to and have heard from here, feel they did well. We are supposed to find out in mid November so not to far away (but far enough for the anxious).
  13. Wow, I never even thought about them keeping track but doubt they do. That is funny tho.. hehe I know your anxious as I! I have been checking everyday and well yesterday when I checked I actually had gotten the interview times and chose one. Then I went on to read the email that was sent... I'm sure you'll be granted an interview so prepare yourself for the essay. Im assuming its the same for everyone considering the questions... > An essay is also required and must be emailed BY NOON October 19th. The Second Degree BSN program is a rigorous, internet-based curriculum. Due to the intensive use of technology, suitable computer skills are necessary for completing degree requirements. > 1. This program requires you to be a self-starter and accountable for much of your own learning. What is your experience with independent learning and what skills do you possess that will help you to be successful in this type of program? > 2. In order to help us get to know you better, please share a life experience or an interesting fact about yourself (i.e. foreign travel, previous career, leadership role/skill, etc.)
  14. I do not know about Austin, however I do know that the interviews are a week after the ones here in El Paso. So it is possible that Austin has not let you'all know yet. I've just been checking Merlin everyday (lol) and it was there... Then I logged into my email to see an email from the coordinator.I received the email later on in the day yesterday and they had quite a few interview slots for both days, so I'm assuming that I was one of the first ones to know. I know you're anxious but I bet you will know probably next week. They give you a week to write an essay as mine is due 10/19. I hope that gives you an idea...
  15. RN2BENAUSTIN, I just got notice that I have been extended an interview with Tech here in El Paso. I'm a little nervous about the interview but I just had one this past weekend with Baylor, so I have an idea of what to expect however I'm a little nervous about the experience aspect that they might be looking for. I have no real real experience in the medical field and wonder if maybe you know someone that might have gotten accepted that also didn't have experience. I'm currently a Massage therapist and that's really the only experience I have outside of office experience. I'm a career changer also!
  16. They sent out an email for interviews today. If an interview was extended to you, it should be on merlin. I applied for Spring 2011 in El Paso.
  17. I bought Kaplans nursing entrance exams and used that to prepare. I feel that it did prepare me however I didn't do so well on the sciences. I didn't study those sections because I had just completed A&P and felt pretty confident however you can see from my score that I didn't do so well. I don't think it was the book though because I didn't use it fully. Anyway, to your question, I didn't find any online resources that I feel were any help. In preparing fro the Hesi A2 after taking the Teas V, I used cliffnotes.com and sparknotes.com to go over subjects such as A&P and Biology. I did very well on the Hesi and I feel that using the book along with those websites was the reason. The problem with the books in relation to the test, isnt necessarily that it gives you the information that will be on the test, but rather the ability to take practice tests that I felt were more suited for Hesi than Teas. Personally, I would purchase the books available thru ATI that deal directly with the Teas. I didn't have the funds other wise I would have gone that route. I heard those study guides and practice tests are a more accurate picture of the Teas V. I wish I would have known that before... Good Luck! (Hope my rambling answered your question...)
  18. I am applying for the fastbacc program starting in May 2011 and curious if anyone has already gone through it. I don't see any threads about this program so I thought I would start one. I have an interview in 2 weeks and really nervous! Ive read the threads on nursing school interviews and am working on preparing but has anyone interviewed with Baylor specifically? What have your scores been for those that have been accepted? Do you know if it is a highly competitive program? I can get so much info about all the other Texas programs but this one doesnt seem to get much attention. Any info would be helpful! Thanks!!! Amanda
  19. @flutterbye67 - I sure hope you're right. I've read so much about scores in the 80's and 90's and although at this point, that I'm not sure which version they were for. I haven't read much on here about scored on the 5th version of the test tho. On the report it says: Adjusted Individual Total Score: 77.3% ATI Academic Preparedness Level: Proficient Mean - National: 62.0% Mean - Program: 64.2% Percentile Rank - National: 86 Percentile Rank - Program: 73 Kinda looks good. I guess I'm just upset because I was expecting to do better, although when I walked out, i had no idea how I did.
  20. Yes. There are 20 non graded questions on the test that they use for reference. They do this on most all standardized exams for "research purposes". LOL I've run into this quite a few times.
  21. I took the Teas V yesterday and had one question pertaining to perimeter...
  22. I took the Teas V yesterday and just learned I got an 77.3 composite score. I'm pretty bummed about it, but we shall see what happens. I am taking the HESI tomorrow and brushing up on my science as that was the one i didn't do too well in. As for retakes, depending on the schools policy, the TEAS V can be retaken twice usually within a 1 or 2 year period. There are two different forms; form A and form B. From what I have read and heard, this test is quite a bit harder than the previous versions and also is used alittle bit different in as far as ranking scores. I think it is best to check with the school to find out exactly what they are looking for on the test.
