Me? I will have the minimum time requirement in ICU for TWU, of February of the year before the program. So basically 1.5 years at time of matriculation. BSN GPA: 4.0 (they made a big deal about that) GRE: 315 TNCC, PHN, along with a list of other basic and smaller certs 160 shadow hours I also think I had very strong recommenders who wrote great letters.

ivaninhabar: I'll be at Colton this August. Aggie_nurse: I think the site does matter. Colton only take up to 11 tops, and they fill up immediately. I heard Mobile is one of the last sites? Just what I've heard. Call and ask. They are always willing to help you succeed. Good luck!

Thank you. I didn't pursue Kaiser. I opted out of USC mainly for the drive, and I stopped the process with Kaiser for the same reason. It would have been too much with the commute and work, and moving closer isn't an option.

I honestly couldn't be sure. I was just told that the TWU course is a "refresher," and you need to already have a basic knowledge. It is just to bring you up to speed and recall all the stuff you haven't used in a decade. And I don't know about people interviewing and not being accepted. Haven't heard it yet here, but this is the only Avenue I would hear it from.

It's online. I haven't seen any I go posted about it I got all my information from someone there (I apparently can't post names on here).

Progressive thinking has it dead on. The ~$140k is cost of attendance, and the ~$81k is cost of tuition. The difference is what you can get from your loans to supplement your bills. You don't have to take that much. When I did the math with the financial department, it averages to about ~$2,500 per month in living expenses. It won't always be that cause it fluctuates based on your credit hours, but that is what it averages to.

I would call and check, but I think you are correct. I didn't know you had a chemistry course already. I was told the refresher course is very difficult. I suppose it depends on how comfortable you are. Ultimately, you can meet the requirements, but make sure you are comfortable with the material so you aren't trying to learn or refresh while doing coursework! Just passing along the pointers I received.

So I thought that their chem course was all I needed. I was informed that it will satisfy the requirement if you tool chem a long time ago and need to refresh. It is not a stand alone course. Kind of deceiving the way it is written on the site. I am taking intro to chem (inorganic) at Iowa Central Community College online. I'll do it as fast as I can and probably take their intro to biochem and organic chem combo course too. I'll start in January. Check it out. I may take the TWU course also after these just so I know what is expected of me during the program.

Sounds like you have good experience. Your GPA is the only thing that isn't great. If you get your CCRN and do really well on your GRE, it will help overshadow that. My GRE was 315 and I had a 4.0, but I didn't do the CCRN and I had the minimum experience time (ICU last February). I worked ER/Trauma before that starting in September. So I had 1 year total when I was accepted. Study for those and you'll do well I think. Also make sure your science GPA is good.

Progressive thinking and Kimber1108, congratulations! I was told the start date is August 21st and that will be in Fort Worth for the first 2 weeks. That's 3 of us confirmed for Colton. Mi_top_rn, yes you need to know what the peep does, fio2, rate, and volume. Those at least. Good to know the different types too like AC, SIMV, etc and what they are used for. My work has the RTs do everything too, except in my rooms. I adjust my own vents as needed, order my own ABGs if I think I need an update and adjust to the results, then let the intensivist and RT know what I did. I've never had either tell me not to do it or I did something wrong. Every nurse I work with though calls me crazy for doing it, but it has made me much more proficient with the vents. Ask your RT to teach you if you need it. That's how I started with them.

The acceptance email I was sent after the phone interview stated that I had to accept and pay my seat deposit within 14 days. I read before the deposit was $500, but mine was $1000.

I have read that TWU is famous for pharm. They want to see that you know about the drugs, drips mostly, that you use most. Know the pharmacokinetics, what receptors they bind to, normal dosing and uses, etc. Have some idea of what to say about common diagnoses you see and a little patho about them. I think most important is to be calm and be yourself. Show them you are confident and if you don't know, say you don't know.

This is the same conflict I am having with TWU Colton and USC. This will be the first year USC is offering a DNAP. Although the drive and work schedule will be murderous on me to go there. TWU is only 3 days a week for didactic, and about 1/3 the drive (1.5-2 hours per day as opposed to 5-6 hours for USC!!). The degree and school prestige is enticing. In the end, set yourself up to do well. You can get the doctorate after while working. TWU has a bridge program and it's all online. That 8 months more I would spend getting my DNAP now I could make $100k working. Think about all the aspects of your options. You will make the choice that's right for you. Congratulations on having the problem to decide! Hahaha.

Annmarshall and Talon, congratulations on being accepted! I shadowed up at Colton today. It's a great group, and there is a lot going on. I think it will be an excellent site.

Easton5: I completely think it was a good idea! I have the same thing happening with USC, and I have been talking to Dr. Gold since I started my ADN. Call! Anmarshall23: that's awesome! Just relax. If they do be ready for them, but there is a reason you were pulled out a month ahead. Is it for the Colton site? It was Dr. G (I guess I can't put his whole name) that called me.

Last week my Texas Wesleyan interview was changed from November 17th to this morning and by telephone. I was accepted to my first choice, the Colton site (California). I start in August.

Haha, I was impressed myself! I asked why I was "so qualified." They said it was the entire application as a whole. -BSN GPA: 4.0 -GRE: 315 -I meet their exact minimum ICU experience of starting ICU Feb 2016 -1 year of ER/Trauma, with my TNCC (That is combined with ICU since I work 6 nights a week, 3 Trauma and 3 ICU. I have been all ICU at another trauma center since July). Both were very acute. Experience with Trauma, neuro, cardiac, balloon pumps, swans, ventrics. -120+ hours of CRNA shadow experience (this was a huge plus, that's a lot of hours) -Owned my own business for 10 years, plus other management experience (they say they love the leadership) I attribute a lot to being outgoing and calling/emailing a lot. I showed a lot of enthusiasm and I think that went a long way. I also work an average of 6 nights per week, so the experience really is doubled. I made that apparent in my letter. I think too that I did the BSN in 12 months while working 6 nights a week, having a family, and a 4.0 showed them I can handle a heavy load.

So I was waiting until today to post this; 5 days ago I got an email from TWU stating "As a highly qualified candidate, you have been chosen to interview by telephone." They gave me a few time frames that were this week, instead of a month from now when my interview was already scheduled at Colton. I called and they said that they have never done a phone interview before, and I was the only person getting one. The call was also coming from the program director, not the director at Colton. I took the call at 0800 this morning. No clinical questions whatsoever. We talked a little about our kids, he described the schedule and how the program works, then asked if I wanted to come to Texas or go to Colton. I told him Colton, and he said "Well then you get Colton." SO.... I am officially accepted to TWU Colton site for 2017!!

Progressive Thinking got an interview with me at Arrowhead, but I haven't heard of anyone hearing about the Texas sites yet. Sounds like the California ones have been notified.
