  1. Our uniforms are head to toe bright purple...or "grape" as they call it, with white shoes. We do get to choose between a few different styles but nothing that is particularly cute. I wear all white skate shoes that I prefer over the Danskos I used to wear so I guess I get to put a little personal touch to my outfit. But seriously, talk about sticking out, walk in a group of people dressed in head to toe purple and watch the heads turn. One of our clinical instructors used to call us all Barney.
  2. I think that there is definitely hope, especially if your community colleges work like they do here and the program is just a waiting list that is not competitive. However, just as a word of advice if you do get into a nursing program, you NEED to take every opportunity with tutoring and improve study habits because nursing school is difficult, and at least in the program that I'm in you have to maintain a 76% just to pass any class or test.
  3. Ok that's what I thought, I've been taking classes there since the beginning and I didn't think that they were sending anyone else through. I don't think AT Still is ready yet though so that makes sense.
  4. Is it where you're going to be permanently? Or is your program just starting out there?
  5. Are any of you starting out taking classes at John C Lincoln?
  6. I have an assignment for an online class that requires having at least 3 experienced RNs fill out this form about their values so that I can do a writing project with the results. The problem is, I don't know any nurses and working and going to school full time it's a little hard to find the time to walk into a hospital and beg busy people to fill out surveys...I'm not really sure how exactly we ARE supposed to do this. So I was hoping if I posted the questions on here a few of you might take a couple minutes to answer. I would really really appreciate it. Thanks. Carefully review the list. Then rank the list in the order of priority for you in your life. Place the number 1 next to the item on the list that you feel is most important. Place the number 2 beside the next most important item. Continue all the way through all 18 items with the number 18 next to the item you feel is least important for you. No two items can have the same number. If you change your mind as you are going through the list it is OK to change your numbers. When you are done you have a list that indicates what you feel is important in life. ____ A Comfortable Life (a prosperous life) ____ Equality (brotherhood and equal opportunity for all) ____ An Exciting Life (a stimulating, active life) ____ Family Security (taking care of loved ones) ____ Freedom (independence and free choice) ____ Health (physical and mental well-being) ____ Inner Harmony (freedom from inner conflict) ____ Mature Love (sexual and spiritual intimacy) ____ National Security (protection from attack) ____ Pleasure (an enjoyable, leisurely life) ____ Salvation (saved; eternal life) ____ Self-Respect (self-esteem) ____ A Sense of Accomplishment (a lasting contribution) ____ Social Recognition (respect and admiration) ____ True Friendship (close companionship) ____ Wisdom (a mature understanding of life) ____ A World at Peace (a world free of war and conflict) ____ A World of Beauty (beauty of nature and the arts) Nursing Values Clarification Our professional values that affect how we practice nursing. Yet sometimes we've not stopped to think about what our nursing values are. Please review the following list and rank the importance of each value to you. There are no right or wrong answers, and if we were to do this exercise 5 years ago or 5 years from now our values may change. But at this time, how do you rank the following statements? Place the number 1 next to the item on the list that you most agree with or feel is most important. Place the number 2 next to the next most important item. Continue all the way through all 16 items with the number 16 next to the item you least agree with or feel is least important for nursing. No two items can have the same number. ___ We need more men in nursing. ___ I am proud to be a nurse and promote nursing as a career. ___ Nurses should have a clean, unwrinkled appearance. ___ I went into nursing because it is a career with job security. ___ I went into nursing because it is stimulating and challenging. ___ I went into nursing because I can make a difference in people's lives. ___ Nurses are highly respected. ___ Nurses are well paid. ___ Nurses should never go on strike. ___ Nurses have more influence in healthcare than ever before. ___ Being a nurse is hazardous to my health. ___ Nurses should attend continuing education programs regardless of whether their employers pay for it. ___ More nurses should have a B.S.N. degree. ___ All nurses should be computer literate and comfortable with technology. ___ Nurses should be politically active to improve their country and local community. ___ Nurses should stay in each job position at least a year before moving on.
