  1. Are you serious? ALL "codes" (which are never "called") in the OR or anywhere else for that matter are due to hypotension or hypooxemia. You had better hope MDA or CRNA is on it BUT this does not mean the most educated is up to date!
  2. Hmmm, I dont think I would reapply to the same program. I would have know more about the situation and think on it.
  3. To me, integrity is who you are when no one else is looking. So, doing the right, honest thing without expecting acknowledgment or praise for it. I can think of many examples that would exemplify this. A good example that I can think of quickly is when nurses I work with leave partially used/full vials of medications, notably narcotics, on the cart next to the patient. During shift change, you should waste the partially used narc or return the unused vial to the pixies to protect the nurse who removed it initially. We get busy, and we forget. Look out for each other even if the off-going nurse has left before you can waste/return with him or her. Find someone else to do it with you.
  4. LeeLEE, honey, I have never HAD it easy in life, if I have I would not be in this mess. You shouldn't "get the feeling I want it easy" this is a FORUM for crying out loud, You do not know me and again like the majority of the people responding are not in student loan default so please do NOT post unless you ARE
  5. I owe MUCH more than you. Each Loan balance is 80,000+40000+5000=125000 is NOT going to give me a payment of 300.00 month. I went to public funded schools. Bachelors in Chemistry was 5 years, I found nursing and chose to become an ARNP, so four more years in BSN, and 1.5 years towards ARNP. I did not have help from parents and I had to borrow to cover housing and all other expenses. Get it??? AGAIN, why can't people repsond to the ORIGINAL post, hardly any of those who have are student loan defaulters, the rest of you just want to throw stones!
  6. Is this the one? http://health.usi.edu/acadprog/nursing/msn/admiss.asp
  7. Feb 1st. Yikes! I will go to their site now. Keep me posted on your trip. I would love for you to come.
  8. Thank you so much for your post. It really means alot to me. I have considered NP school but I just dont know if it is for me. I have so much student loan debt, I just think I need to either finish what I started or change careers altogether (in something that does not require a pricey education). PM me anytime. Withdrawing from CRNA school is tough and I wish I had someone before to share with. God Bless you too.
  9. Those who said I overestimated for childcare. Ten dollars per hour for two toddlers in diapers. One 12 hour shift for me inlcuding commute/report time equates to 14 hours childcare time. I have submitted 37 application to the hospital that is 1.5 miles from me over the past three years with no offer
  10. It pays significantly less per hour than PRN
  11. Full time paycheck 793/week (before taxes) childcare 420/week gas 50/week insurance 100/week Student Loans 200/week These are conservative numbers too. (Food, diapers, etc.) See 12 hours shifts for me which usually turn into 14 hour shifts cause me to pay a sitter 150/work day. I have twins in diapers. No day care is open longer than 1o hours in this state(against the law). Believe you me, I am NOT a socialist but I have become a product of the system. This is how they keep people broke. I reapplied to grad school to pursue the degree for which I became a nurse for in the first place and was not accepted. The closest school is 3 hours away. My housing is provided by husbands job as it should be. He works 12 hour days/ 6 days a week for a whopping 6oo dollar/week check. He pays the car loan and all other expenses I am basically trying to decide to either put the measley little payments to the borrowers into a college savings fund for myself so I can ONE day return and pay them after I graduate or keep paying below what I am able and never dig out. Again, I asked for advice on a solution, not your opinions of me and that I am a bad person for struggling financially. If you can give sound advice DONT post! I have enough people on my butt without you so called peers b
  12. Thanks, I have done forbearance and deferrment with Sallie Mae. I just sent them 400.00 which is all I had. I only work PRN because FT will cost me $ and if I work to many hours, my children will lose their state insurance. I reapplied to grad school and was denied admission. I know my credit will be ruined but at this point, it already is. What little money I have goes to grocer ies diapers etc. I have no insurance to pay yet I need a stress echo next week.
  13. Hahaha. Same thing happended to me except preg with twins. I gave up my spot. Bummmer, eh? so what happened?
  14. Anyone defaulted. If so please share your experience.
  15. ZooKeeper wrote: "did you purchase CRNA books before being accepted to the program thinking you would get in?" Uh, No. WHY would I do that?! "Critical care is the hardest, it's only us and no where else to go. Some areas is an eat each other up and I'm one ahead of you game because it's so competitive. Being an ICU nurse in cardiac surgery is NOOOOO comparison to the depth of the responsibility of the CRNA." NOOOOOO SH&T! "The CRNA is over the surgeon, can cancel the case, stop the surgery and has the final say until report is given to the receiving nurse, it's a tremendous responsibility". "again, you have told me nothing I do not already know "I'm sorry you failed, but your post is very unclear as how we can help you, please explain further." "I do not consider it a failure, it has undoubtedly made me a much better nurse, I having a hard time discerning my will from GOD's will. I am frustrated and not sure what direction to take. i.e stay in a job indefinitely that I do not like to keep my ICU experience "current" or find another career that will be equally fulfilling
  16. I was in a program and HAD to withrdaw. MY GPA was great and so were my clinical skills
  17. I was in anesthesia school and without getting into lengthy details, had to withdraw in December 2006.
  18. I am grieving the loss of my chosen profession. I really thought becoming a CRNA was what I was meant to do. I became a nurse to become a CRNA. I prayed, applied one last time and was rejected. While in school I loved clinical and looked forward to the early rise & long days in the OR for clinical. I NEVER looked at my watch wondering, "when is this case going to end?" I had a great GPA and great clinical reviews. As a christian, I have put this in GOD's hands, prayed for his will, and I guess being a CRNA is not what he wants me to do with my life. I sometimes wish I had never gotten in or learned of the profession so I would not miss it so much. Now with 120K debt, all these anesthesia textbooks, and a job I do not like, I am really having a hard time letting go. I do not think I am meant to be a critical nurse because I so unhappy while at work. I am just praying for GOD to direct me to whatever it is I am supposed to do. Anyone looking for anesthesia texts?
  19. I have two BS degrees. First degree in chem with crap GPA, discovered anesthesia, got BSN with 3.9, started anethesia and had to withdraw for personal situation that was not going to resolve right away. Now, I am back in ICU, 100K in debt, cant pay my loans and more or less screwed. Think really hard about what you are doing.
  20. Be VERY careful borrowing money. I had to borrow ALOT because I could not work AND go to school as it was prohibited by the program. No one ever asked "how will you pay this back should you not finish for some reason" i never even considered the thought of not finishing. 100K later, I hate being a nurse and cannot get back into school for the whole reason why I became a nurse in the first place.
  21. I am waiting on a phone call to schedule a phone interview as the first step of interviewing for a PACU position. The interviewer is an HR company hired to handle employment apps for a small MD practice with a certified OR in the office. I really need this job and I have no idea what to expect and how to "pass" this first step so I can actually meet the staff and receive an interview by them. Anyone else done this for a clinical position? Suggestions for making a good impression please! What questions should I ask the interviewer?
  22. Hey Brittany, Thanks so much or your message! What certification do you have and how is the job market? How difficult is it to get a job working from home? Thanks so much!
  23. In a patient with a history of anxiety and GERD, at what point do you push the idea that the patients symptoms just COULD be cardiac in origin. Symptoms reported included mild substernal ache with occasional "difficulty taking deep breaths", light headedness, tight sensation around the throat area, and occasional "jaw ache". Patients exercises 3-5 times per week for 1-2 hours at high intensity with no symptoms. Last 12 lead was normal although intermittent monitoring strips have shown unifocal PVC's. Patient is 38 with normal to low bp and no known other health issues.
  24. Hey Brittany, I am in Kentucky also and i have no idea where to get the coding education. I am waiting to hear from Daymar College. Any suggestions? Thanks, I am in Lousiville
