I like to do 18 gauges as well for most. I too work in a small ER that does not get a lot of trauma and I think it is crucial to practice for when it is really needed to put in a large bore. I have been fairly unsuccessful with 14G needles and wonder if someone can offer some pearls on them??
  2. if you dont suffer from major debt and HAVE to be at work, then take a break!! take an extended vacation and learn or focus on something different. i love my job in the ER but need breaks to fill my own inner passions. this in the long run will benefit not only you but the patients you care for. for example, i am taking two months to live in my van and ski with my husband.
  3. a couple of travelers i work with got an email from fastaff who were looking for RNs to go on two week assignments and i think it was paid. i looked on the site myself today but did not see anythiing that stood out directly to go to Haiti, may want to look more in depth. we donated and are still contemplating going but, i also heard that there is a lot of gang formation and that a lot of people who are trying to get over are stuck in various places because pop is just swamped. hope any of this helps...
