  1. I work at a LTC facility in Illinois. The DON and the Administrator will personally walk any of the nurses or CNA's that are there past their shift working. It's so wrong that we can not finish the work we have to do. I personally have 53 patients per night that I have to medicate and do treatments on! The majority of the time I can NOT finish my charting which is unsafe and I don't want to be held liable. This is just the sign of the times. Nurses are being asked to do the job of 2 nurses, not getting their lunches or breaks that they aren't getting paid for, and we are not able to give the kind of care that is right.
  2. Have you tried applying at LTC and Home Health care Facilities? You may have to apply to places a little further than you want to drive to get your initial experience and go from there!
  3. All you can do in that situation is let the charge nurse know your concerns and document any issues and concerns. That is a lot of patients/inmates for one nurse to medicate in 8 hours. I work in a correctional facility also and I never get a break or a lunch break the whole time I'm there. I know what you are feeling. Can you talk to the charge nurse and ask her what her recommendation would be for you in that situation?
  4. I have heard that U of M Hospital hires LPN's you might want to check them out. I'm not sure the pay, but hospital experience is the best in my opinion.
  5. Hi, I am an LPN that has ben licensed in the state of Illinois for 6 months. I am planning on bridging my LPN to RN in the next year and would like to know what type of facility I can get the best experience before I go back to get my RN? I have worked in a long term care facility, at a correctional facility, and as a hospice nurse. I feel like there must be more experience that I should be getting so that when I go back to get my RN and get my license I will be able to say I have a good deal of great experience to be able to get the job I am looking for. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
  6. Does anyone know which states have limited enrollment for nursing programs and which states don't? I know that Ohio doesn't have a limited enrollment but I moved and am know in Illinois. I am currently an LPN working in LTC and would like to get my RN but do not want to have to take an entrance exam or be on a waiting list.
  7. I would love if you could forward me the information on that national organization to assist me in case I have to go in front of the board of nursing. I have a misdemeanor on my record from 3 years ago that the BON is now requesting court documents and a letter of explanation of my circumstances. This is all new territory for me and I am terrified that I have worked so hard to getting through nursing school and pass my boards on the first time. Only to have this one mistake not let me be the nurse I worked so hard to become. Any advice you can give me would be helpful and much appreciated. One other question, do you know how long it will take when I send the court documentation along with my letter to the BON to hear a response back on whether or not they will allow me to have my license?
  8. Help! I'm having trouble finding schools in Michigan either on-line or on site that offer the LPN to RN bridge program. Does anyone know that can help?
