  1. Hello, I am not applying for a 2014 admission but my apply for the 2015 admission to UTHSC-Houston. I was wondering if you know that overall GPA is a relevant factor for admissions into traditional BSN program? I looked over the past posts here from previous classes and I read some people saying yes it is a factor and others that say no it is not a factor. The reason I ask is because some of these individuals who had less than stellar overall GPA's had great HESI scores and very high science GPA (4.0) and high pre-req GPA (3.8 and above) who did not get in. I know there may be other factors that the admissions people look at, such as how many times you re-took your science classes, etc. I would also like to know if any of you have heard that apply for Texas Academic Fresh Start would improve your chances for admissions. I have a B.S. all ready - I graduated in 1988, 25 years ago. I have also taken courses @ Lonestar in another A.A.S degree and my GPA was much better (graduated in 2003). Since that time, I have taken the classes I needed for the pre-reqs that I did not all ready have with my prior degrees (and for some of you thinking how could it be possible that I would need more - well it is!). I have a 3.91 GPA in my pre-reqs and a 4.0 science GPA. Academic Fresh Start is a program for all Texas residents applying to public schools where you can have your old GPA and courses (erased) from your record. The fact that you have a degree doesn't change, but your grades prior to 10 years of your application for the Fresh Start program no longer can be used in your admission process. Trouble is, I don't know if that counts for a second bachelor's degree or if it only counts for graduate admissions. The bad part is you have to re-take all classes needed for pre-requisites even if you had A's in those particular classes. You can't pick and chose which classes you want to keep and which you want to "re-do". If you google Texas Academic Fresh Start, you can read all about it if you are interested. I'm really at a cross-roads here, even if the admissions people say that overall GPA doesn't matter, I wonder why not? I wonder if they really do matter in some cases. If anyone has input regarding this, I'd love to know! BTW, I have taken all my prereqs except for 4 classes I would need to redo under Fresh Start. I haven't taken my HESI yet as I don't know exactly when I will apply to nursing schools but probably will in 2015. Thanks!
  2. Good luck to you! I hope that I have the same response from the market when I graduate - which will be a few years. Did you have prior medical experience before becoming a nurse? I'm happy for you, you made it through nursing school so its well deserved.
  3. nicolemsm - I would like the study guide for the HESIa2 if you have it. Is it possible for you to pm me your email so I can reply to it and then could you send me the review file? I can't send a pm yet. Thank you!
  4. I know that Lonestar/Kingwood has evening/weekend ADN programs. I have the following questions: 1) What times and days are you in class if you are admitted to the evening program. 2) What chances are likely that you will be in the Saturday clinical if in the evening/weekend program? 3) Does the evening/night program at Kingwood accept students for the Fall and Spring semesters or just Spring OR Fall? 4) My goal is to enter the program while I teach during the day for the first semester of the program only. After that, I will retire from teaching and then finish the program over the next 3 semesters. Hope someone out there can answer. I'm very interested in this. Any insights you can give will be much appreciated!
  5. khayemay - could you Private Message me your email? I am a newbie here so I can't send any. perhaps someone with the HESI review file can send it to me. Thank you!
