What was the program you decided on?

I'm wanting to go to the four corners area for psych travel nursing. As a nurse I've had 2.5 yrs with psych but I've had total about 4 years volunteer, PNA, ect. What company is good to travel with? What company is safe. I've had some per diem jobs and they've sent me to places that have been unsafe for my license. I wouldn't mind going to Hawaii if they provided housing for me and my dog. What do I watch for when accepting an assignment? What are good trustworthy have your back agencies?

"You are going to have to take classes, history and electives for an RN-BSN program and since your goal is OT why not go for that now instead of an advanced degree in nursing?" To answer that question, to get into the program here, you have to already have a Bachelors degree in some health care field. If not, then it would take 5 years to go though the program instead of 1 yr to get BSN and 2yrs for the program. Plus I'm not planning to get into the OT program right away. " To the OP, I feel your pain. I don't think I have have met a nurse yet, especially newer nurses within the past few years that hasn't gone through something similar and felt this way. I sure know I have considered leaving nursing and I have only been a nurse for two years and much of that was as an LPN. I just know that a lot of my anxiety comes from my own lack of expeirience and just the overwhelming feeling that comes from being a new nurse. I worked too hard to get through nursing school to just quit without giving it a decent try. There are so many areas of nursing that you can move to if you get into something that isn't necessarily the right fit. I'm sure you can work as a rehab nurse or something similar to OT, and be happy in nursing without having to leave the profession after such a short time. Just give it some thought. I definately understand the frustrations that come with being a nurse....all of us nurses do." Thanks for that post. I thought I was the only person feeling that way. I'm not going into the OT program right away but I'm just taking steps so that if I need to I can make an exit. Can't make much of an exit with an ADN. I am in a town that doen't let you switch form one area of nursing to another with out a year of experience in that field. It's been very frustrating. I'm happy to know that I'm not the only person having these issues. I will think about it and look into the colleges you have sugessed.

Both my parents are OTs. Its what I know. My parents told me earlier in my life to not be an OT when the market was flooded, but it's what I love. I went to nursing school and I think I've finally found my nitch in nursing, psych, but I still don't know if I want to do it forever. When I was young I would even assist my parents at thier job and i would hook up e-stim machines and help supervise pts in whirlpools, ect. i like psych alot but I want my BSN so that I'm not stuck forever in nursing. I've had a rough almost two years. I don't like the attitudes that most nurses have about eating thier young and not being there for the Pt. I've been though three jobs. I went into nursing to help heal and be compassionate to Pts and to be a team player with other nurses but I guess i went into nursing for the wrong reason because it's all pointing fingers and pushing your work onto someone else and being nasty to each other. It's lessened in psych, but OTs usually can't be that way with each other. There's usually one or two bad seeds but on the whole, even with my father being a director of rehab and hearing all of the bad stories he came home with and the stories my mom comes home with, it's not as bad as what I have dealt with over the past two years. I love how creative you get to be with finding solutions for the pts. I love the creativity. Does that make since?

So I had this problem too. You have to approach people like you are hot $h*t and that they will loose out if they don't have you. Have someone else brush up your resume and make it look different. Some places want you to grovel and apply multiple times and call to show that you are persistent and really want the job. Some places will only take applications in person and don't pay attention to online apps. Attend open houses and make connections to get on the inside. Try applying to places that are more rural. Farmington NM is always desperate for nurses (they have a awesome new grad program) and here in El Paso TX there are always GN programs available. They are out there. You may have to expand your mind a little to possibilities that you didn't think of before, and you may have to move.

OK So i've read a lot of these posts (There's a lot!!!!!) I'm overwhelmed! Also not all of my questions have been answered and I'm so confused! I got my ADN in Farmington NM in May of 08. I want to get my BSN so that if I choose to, I can go back go school and get my masters in Occupational Therapy (There is a two year program here that as long as you have a BSN, you can get your masters.) I live in El Paso TX. I don't want to go to tx tech or utep because they require two history classes and two political classes that wasn't required for NM. That's four classes I don't need to take. I have taken statistics, all of the maths possible, A&P micro ect but not patho, Sociology, 3 diffrent psychologies, nutrition and everything required for nursing. I am willing to take like one or two more basics, but that's it! TX classes I will have to take 4. So, I am looking for an online program to give me my bsn. I don't want a lot of clinical. I don't want a lot of group projects, and I don't want a lot of tests. I started a new job working for the state of TX (El Paso Psych Hospital) and I don't need too much more stress but I want to graduate by May of 2012 at the latest (My atypical autistic bother graduates from high school then). South and Chamberland seem to have that but they are expensive.I've tried University of NM but their online programs had no support and the teachers were not supportive of working RNs. What do you guys suggest? (Sorry for the typos I'm a little busy today. Oh and please type out the name of the college if you choose to help me out because I get confused with all of the abbreviations.)
