I am also in the same boat as you. I applied for several CNA positions at the local hospitals and one recruiter said bc of my RN license, I could not work as a CNA and the rest I have not heard back from. I recently applied to HH and was very fortunate to received the job offer with the agency. It's very fustrating for new grads looking for employment in this tight economy. Be patience and have faith. Thank you for the replies. I will make sure to clarify with them on how long the orientation period will last. And yes, the HH agency is trying to expand their service in the area where I live. According to them, the agency has referrals in my part of town that they cannot pick up bc they have no one on my side and other RNs aren't willing due to long commute (70+miles) from their office. Anyway, we'll see what happens in a couple of days. Again, thank you so much. I've learned a lot what "real" nursing is from reading the different posts. Keep up the good work!

Greetings to all! This is my first post but not new to the site. I graduated from BSN over a year ago and had not work due to family situations. I applied to several GN residency programs and was fortunate to get a call back for interviews. Unfortunately, I did not get the offers due to "lack of experience and out of school for awhile." Recently I submitted my resume to a HH agency that was willing to train new grad with no experience and got a call back from them. They wanted me to come in ASAP so that I may start my training. Basically I was hired over the phone, but I needed to come in to fill out an application and take a test. The preliminary interview consisted of them telling me what HH is all about and what I will be doing as a HH nurse (paperwork and oasis). Here is my question to those with HH experience, is it reasonable to get paid $20/visit during the orientation period (about 2-3wks)? That was the only salary issue that was brought up during the interview. We have not discussed anything else beyond that. I'm not "officially hired" yet until later on this week when I come back for the official orientation. At that time I will inquire further about pay rate post orientation when I'll be on my own in the field. What rate will be considered reasonable for someone in my position? Am I in any position to negotiate? Considering how tight the job market is right now and that I am in desperate need to put my license to use so that I might gain some experiences for possible future employment in the hospital settings. Greatly appreciate any suggestions or comments.
