Im about to start nursing school...which job is best for a nursing student?
Check with your local hospitals. Some have programs similar to "student nurse registry." This basically means they understand you want to learn but that you also have a huge demand on the side (nursing school!!). I would encourage you to apply for a tech position in ICU or CCU. I worked ICU and found a great nurse who basically mentored me. She let me go with her to all procedures and even when I wasn't allowed to do them, I got to watch which gave me confidence and put me way ahead of everyone in my class. On the other hand though, if you have worked your CNA job for awhile they may give you more flexibility with your school schedule and hours. Don't worry about the medication thing because you will get enough of that in school. Meds at a nursing home are much different than IV's, etc. But all this is opinion, in the end you just have to deicide what your options are and what is right for you

Help! I'm So Confused
I know that in the end it is ultimately the patients decision whether they want family in the room or not. Honestly, if I was your clinical instructor I would not assign you to this patient simply because you need to become comfortable with the setting/hospital etc. before coming into a situation like this. I guess it is a good learning experience though. If you can do something, like place a Foley, in front of an audience then you can do it anywhere.

I want to quit (my) nursing program
I agree. Cut your losses and find a different route. I would encourage you to continue your BSN where ever you go though. It will help you a lot in the future. I think it is sad that you are not even assigned an advisor. I would go see my after almost every test I found difficult and she would get the test and review all the questions I missed. I normally do not recommend an accelerated program unless you can devote your whole life to it. It is difficult to even hold a part time job much less try and raise a child. Stick with BSN if possible and research your options. Contact schools and ask what their transfer policy is before making any final decisions. Good luck, I know this must be difficult!!

Tuition payment or reimbursment
Norton Healthcare in Louisville, KY. It is called the Norton Scholars program. You contract to work for 6 months for every semester paid. You can even get living expense check as well but every semester I have to add in a few hundred dollars of my own. Good program and 5 great hospitals in the city to choose from when you graduate (including an excellent children's hospital). Upon graduation you will be placed in one of their facilities and paid the same as a regular graduating nurse. You also receive the same benefits. Some people have even said they pay for the NCLEX and NCLEX review. Great program and great place ot work. Check them out at the link below. http://www.nortonhealthcare.com/body.cfm?id=148

Norton Scholarship Program
Norton Scholar Program is run through Norton Healthcare in Louisville, KY. They pay for your schooling up front as long as you agree to an employment contract. I'm currently in the program right now and the way I contracted is every semester they pay for, I agree to work six months (give or take a few days). I will receive the same pay as nurses similar to me. It is really helpful and it guarantees you a job after graduation. I have had no complaints so far. They even offer to pay for living expenses. The only stipulation is they do require you to keep a good GPA but any nursing school you get would require the same. Seriously consider applying, it is a great opportunity.
